Parents love it. Very good French food. Local gem
We 2 women sat in a very cozy, private nook but the noise level was still very high.
To find something on the entire menu without onions, garlic and peppers was impossible. The waiter tried, but apparently my request was too difficult. I ended up with a small lettuce salad with a few small slices of cheese, 2 baby tomatoes, several golden raisins and 3 slivers of radish....for $15. Bread was extra and I agreed with that, but they didn't have butter, only tapenade. That seemed odd for a French restaurant.
The service was great! Everyone was so friendly and the server was helpful with the wine. I can’t believe I’ve never been and I have lived four blocks away for four years! We will be back!
I've been dining here for almost 3 years. This is one of my favorite places to dine in SF. And it is my #1 place for a date.
A good neighborhood restaurant with great food and SF ambiance!
The beef Wellington was really good! We enjoyed our evening here. Great service
We loved everything about Cocette. The ambiance is warm and casual chic. Our waiter was helpful and charming in that French-in-America sort of way. I started with a delicious mushroom soup and my husband had the mache salad with citrus vinaigrette. He went on to have their signature Beef Wellington and the goat cheese potato gratin side. I had the scrumptious rotisserie half chicken served with three fabulous sauces - arugula pesto, mushroom and romesco. I could eat it every day, it was so good. My side was broccoli with a lemon anchovies vinaigrette. Yum. Unfortunately, we had no time for desert. We were rushed because we were late for our reservation and had theater tickets. Our bad. Next time we will be sure to chill and take our time. Their tart tartin is definitely in our future.
Inept service. Good food and ambiance, but not enough
Just finished a Valentines Day dinner at Cocotte. In the middle of dinner the waiter spilled my wife's full glass of red wine over me, providing a robust soaking of my jacket, shirt and trousers. While he apologized (the host, standing nearby showed no concern) he offered to "make it up to me" the next time we dined there. Not a reduction of the current bill or some real time consideration for their blunder.
Truly an inept response to spilling wine all over me and costing me an expensive dry cleaning bill.
Regretful. My wife and I will not be returning and will not recommend to others.
GREAT STAFF....FOOD WAS GREAT ,BEEF WELINGTON WAS THE BEST ... WE WILL BE BACK
We had reservations for 8pm, but Open Table screwed it up and the restaurant had it for 8:30. This gave us enough time to have a glass of bubbly at the bar, which is never a problem. Considering it was a busy Saturday night, we were seated pretty quickly. We had never been to the restaurant and we loved the atmosphere, small and intimate, friendly staff, good wine list. My only gripe was the service. They were very slow to come and bring us bread or water, though we asked immediately upon sitting. The appetizer also took a bit of time, but we overlooked it. To start we had the duck foie gras with poached pear (relish?)...so delicious. My husband had the Beef Wellington and I had the Bouillabaisse, both delicious, plus a side of crispy french fries. During the whole meal we were not only loving our appetizer and entrees, but the bread was the best, very light with perfectly crispy crust. The dessert was a an apple tart, not like any we have tasted, but delicious. All in all, a great dining experience.
It seems that they prefer the walk-ins over the opentable reservations. We had a reservation but arriving there, they said they do not have it. They were not polite and not interested at all in our reservation!! We left the restaurant and checked again in opentable, they showed availability when it was False!!!
Yuri is awesome! Thanks for making dinner fun
We had to wait a bit even though we had the reservation for 8:30 but it was last day of restaurant week and food was great !
Wonderful atmosphere and cuisine! It was our first time but we will be returning soon!
Went for restaurant week and had a lovely time! Every dish was fantastic!
Went here for restaurant week and unlike other places, Cocotte takes it seriously. They offered a variety of delicious choices. The staff was great, the atmosphere was comfortable, and the food memorable. This is a great neighborhood restaurant and I'll be back.
Visited for SF Restaurant Week and was encouraged by Check Please Bay Area Review.
The food was nicely French, but was surprised to see many Italian dishes and preparations on the menu. I had a Trout dish and my partner had Osso Bucco. The trout had skin on, but it wasn't crispy. The osso bucco was chewy and dry, and the polenta wasn't amazing either. Plenty of seasoning on everything but the quality was lacking. Realizing that we could have probably ordered differently and saved quite a bit of money by just ordering ala carte.
One other complaint. They served a sancerre by the glass that was about $16 at Costco (same brand, same vintage). It's a great wine for 16 bucks. They charged $13 for a glass. Come on.
Probably won't go back. The restaurant needs an update. Clearly noticed the leather on the bar stools was cracked and worn away.
Very cozy spot with wonderful food - we enjoyed every bite
Restaurant Week pick. Exquisite food. Great service. We will definitely go back soon. I have to try the Beef Wellington.
Service was great! Recommendations for drinks and dessert were spot on. The food was delicious and we will definitely be back :)
A great sf restaurant week deal!!
We went for the Restaurant Week special. The first two courses were outstanding -- Ahi Tuna Tartare followed by Pork Shank Osso Bucco. The molten chocolate lava cake dessert was a bit ordinary and slightly on the cool side. Had a nice claret with the meal. The big problem was the noise level, otherwise very happy.
A little too crowded. We had a table right by the kitchen & it was a bit of a squeeze each time the servers needed to get by. We were constantly worried they would spill something on us.
Great neighborhood restaurant that delivers a great dining experience time after time.
This was my second time at Cocotte and can't say I was too impressed the second time around. We had an 8pm reservation and just a mere 45min later, we were seated. After chatting with a few other patrons at the bar, they too had been waiting at minimum 30 min past their reservation time.
I think Cocotte needs to figure out how many reservations they can honor at any given time, since they clearly overbooked, or underestimated how long others who are dining would stay at their table.
At the very least, we should have been offered a glass of wine or something to snack on, since many of us arrived hungry and with the expectation that we would be seated quickly.
The food was fresh and well presented. However, we were told no cocktails because “the person who makes them isn’t here tonight”. Really?? In addition, there was nothing special about the food. It was good, but no wow factor at all. We had seen the place on “Check Please Bay Area” and based on their reviews, we were very excited to go. Maybe our expectations were too high?
Too many tables for the space and the tables are way too close together. Completely ruins the ambiance/atmosphere. The staff barely had space to walk. It was ridiculous. They were also understaffed the day we went.
Always a pleasure to dine here. The staff was super friendly and adapted to our humor right away. Basically we left it to the waiter to choose the food which was amazing. We had foie gras, muscles, and peppers for starters, then two of us had the beef Wellington and two had the duck. All Delicious. The waiter also made a great wine recommendation to accompany the selections.
A winner in this cute little place on Hyde. We will return and recommend often.
Not great. Food was meh. Foie gras terrine was under seasoned and the beef Wellington soggy. Lobster salad was also under seasoned, which made it boring and lacking in flavor. The buttermilk fried quail and the banana creme brûlée were delicious. Frankly, I cannot even remember the rest of the dishes because they were utterly forgettable.
It was Christmas Eve though, so maybe not their best effort.
This was perhaps our fourth visit to Cocotte over the past few years. The roasted chicken was, as always, wonderful. My son loved his coq a vin. My husband had three problems with his meal--his peppper appetizer was not very tasty (though he in fact did eat it all, he was hungry), the cod was dry and his wine was spoiled. I tasted the wine as well. We brought that to the attention of the server/owner, who first tasted it, tried to tell us that is just how the wine tastes (grenache), but did then graciously serve him a glass of another wine (no charge for the first one, which was barely touched).
It just seemed the evening was a bit off. They were not that busy for most of the night (12/23) . It was just that they seemed to imply that we didn't know what we were talking about with the wine, and we are very well schooled in wine and food.
Happy new year, though.
Kind of a slow night so our service was extra attentive and personable. Love the food always. Portions are not large but plenty for sharing family style among reasonable eaters. Wine list a little over-priced for the quality but a fine variety to select from. We will keep coming back!
We love this restaurant. The chicken is to die for. Great atmosphere too.
Everything was great. Went for my wedding anniversary. The food was fantastic. Will definitely go back and would highly recommend.
Loved the beef Wellington! Perfectly done tender fillet, great crust and generous 2 piece portion. Served with a delicious broiled bone marrow!
Duck breast was flavorful but tough
Sometimes great sometimes ok, but when they get it right it can be amazing. A neighborhood resto bar hidden on Russian Hill. My last three visits they have run out of things. Worth a try.
Great food, warm atmosphere and terrific service makes this my favorite neighborhood spot!
Service was average but food (the beef wellington and coq du vin) was great
Food was delicious, service was good. Our only complaint was the timing of the food, there were long pauses between courses and the dishes didn't come out together or at the proper timing.
Thanksgiving dinner was exceptional. Service was amazing with great wine recommendations and food knowledge. Props to chef Daniel that I had the pleasure of meeting this thanksgiving who put out an incredible menu my family and I enjoyed. Very busy and props to the entire staff for making mine and my family's thanksgiving a meal to remember.
