I’ve lived in the neighborhood for years, but this was my first time at Cocotte. I truly enjoyed the food and the experience. They really made the most of outdoor dining. David, our server, was attentive and pleasant to talk to.
The food was delicious and reasonably priced. The Coq au Vin was flavorful and presented masterfully. The bottle of Albariño we ordered was dry and “minerally” on the palette. The banana creme brûlée is one of my favorite desserts I’ve had in a while.
Great food and they do as good a job as they can in these times of Covid.
Odd to be sitting on the street while people run around you. Probably a lot nicer to eat inside. This review is Mostly for the food though, which was ok but nothing special.
The food was good and reasonably priced. However they did not share the wine list, we ordered two glasses of red and we were surprised that for one glass cost $17. For two glasses the wine was more expensive that the food.
Tables appropriately spaced on the sidewalk. No heaters but none needed the night we were there. Candlelight and low traffic on Hyde made for a casual, romantic evening.
CURBSIDE DINNING LEAVES SOMETHING TO BE DESIRED. JUST A SIGH OF THE TIMES....
The food was great and the live music was very pleasant.
In this time of Covid, Cocotte has figured out how to offer an expansive menu, provide good service and do their best to provide some ambience on the sidewalk in front of their restaurant. We applaud their efforts, really enjoyed our meal— the food was outstanding – – and the service was so welcoming! We had the half chicken and filet Wellington and shared a bottle of red wine.
This restaurant has dealt with COVID 19 super well. Their outdoor dining is comfortable and well lit for the evening.
You must get their white wine mussels. Some of the best I’ve had in a long time.
Food was delicious, employees were wearing gloves and masks, very knowledgeable. Live music on a Monday, was a nice surprise. I had noted in my reservation which dessert and that it was my bf's birthday and they brought it out to his surprise :) entrees did take a little while to come out after starters, but we were taking our time with wine so was fine.
If you want to know what it would be like to wander into a French bistro in France (not San Francisco) then make a point to wander into Cocotte. It is unpretentious delicious authentic French cooking with good service. This was a Tue eve during prime time Coronavirus fear, so things were quiet and it was easy to converse, linger over Coc au Vin, Gnocchi (Parisienne) and a spicy Pinot. I’d been here for happy hour at the small intimate bar, but had wanted to come back for dinner ever since. Thoroughly enjoyed my bday dinner.
Another delicious dinner at Cocette! Food was delicious and it’s a very cozy setting. And the service was great. We’ll be back!
Lovely restaurant, wonderful service and delicious food!
Consistently excellent. A great neighborhood place.
Cocotte was great- great service, great food, great wine etc. If I lived in that neighborhood I'd make it a regular spot for me. For now, we come in when we can or for a special treat. We'll definitely be back.
A hidden gem in the neighborhood. Cozy and cute with great food.
Had reservation, sat down and was told they wish to turn table so be ready to order in 2 minutes. Then received spotty, even slow service later during meal. I have been here before and liked the place.
Last night my wife and I enjoyed a wonderful dinner with another couple at Cocotte. We may not have gone, but with SF "Dine About Town" ending we decided to visit. We are SO glad we did. My wife chose the restaurant and I only started doing research on Thursday. Reviews were overwhelmingly positive, but there were some negative reviews which (honestly) always makes me leery. Well, I'll say we DID NOT experience anything remotely near what had been said and quite frankly I figure those people are just silly, salty or stupid. We all decided to go prod-fixe menu and the flavors were exceptional. Three of us ordered the chicken livers parfait (amazing!) and one the salmon to start. I didn't try the salmon, but the ladies wished they had gotten it - it was excellent. For our seconds two of us got the trout (I did) and two the pork osso buco. Both dishes were amazing and none of us could decide which was better. For dessert we ordered the banana creme brûlée (MINE!), two chocolate lava cakes (good) and a apple tart tatin (I didn't try). Overall the meal, the service and the whole experience left me wanting to vIsit again to try their well known rotisserie chicken. Coq Au Vin and/or Beef Filet Wellington. Corkage is $25 a bottle and for our 4 top they allowed 2 bottles. We took an Uber there, but it would have been fun to ride a cable car. Kudos to the staff - the whole crew made us feel welcome and we WILL be returning! Go!
We had eaten here several times in the past with good results on their classic menu. Our experience during restaurant week was below par. We did not order from the special menu and the restaurant was not able to deliver even to minimum standards the other options on the menu. The coq au vin was poor and not consistent even with the menu description. I guess the restaurant has limited space. They should just offer the special menu, and not try to serve other options. Also we arrived 7 minutes late and were scolded for that, even though we left the table a half hour before it was needed.
It felt rushed for restaurant week, service wasn't very good, and the food portions were small given the price. we left hungry.
Overcharged and very rude on the phone twice when trying to get this resolved.
Beware you may need to review your bank statement transaction.
We dined with friends (party of 4) for Restaurant Week. We had the pre-fixe menu...it just wasn't anything spectacular. We wanted to like Cocotte, but no one was overwhelmed by their meal. I did really love the banana creme brulee!
This is a great neighborhood spot. Super cute and cozy with yummy food. However they were a bit understaffed, which caused some delays in service. Also we ordered the chicken liver and when it first came out it was frozen. Overall I enjoy this place, but a few more attention to details would go a long way.
Good French food but a very small restaurant with tables very close together. Excellent cow au vin but a not very extensive menu. Service was good.
Excellent cheese souffle and awesome Beef Wellington. Great service!
Food was alright and the staff was extremely polite and on top of it.
It was our second there with friends and came out super disappointed. While the food was good, the manager was unprofessional. They gave us the wrong desert, and when we brought it to their attention, the manager dismissed it, and essentially asked us to speed up or moved to the bar. Will never go back again. For the price that we paid, it was not worth it at all.
My wife and I went to Cocotte for our anniversary after reading that it was good for such things. In my reservation request, I also told the Cocotte staff this was an anniversary and hoped for a quiet table so we could better enjoy the special occasion.
I have rated Cocotte positively for food and service, both aspects of the place were nice, but I would not recommend it for special occasions if you hope to have any space or be able to hold a conversation with your special date. Cocotte really has just one 2 top table that might be considered even vaguely private or intimate .. a small nook really. We were not able to get this table, but were seated within inches of another 4 top. So much for intimacy .. other than with other diners.
On the night we visited, Cocotte was stupidly loud. I get the impression its a lively bistro by nature, which is fine, but they were hosting a party of at least 10-12 younger people celebrating someones birthday and those folks were kind of out of hand in my opinion.
So, lively bistro, good food, good wine list, good service ... good spot for a lively dinner out ... not so good for a quiet romantic dinner with your spouse or partner.
Waiter and service was lovely. Food was okay. Ambiance was cute and noise was louder than I expected. It was fairly busy for a small place, so the level was about a moderate level.
We tried the rotisserie chicken with a side of Brussels sprouts. I love Brussel sprouts, so these were a little disappointing. They were shredded and flavor was okay. Nothing too exciting.
We also tried the dish of the day which was a pork dish. It was on the heavier side but the flavor was really nice.
Overall, we enjoyed our experience there.
Great food and ambiance. Lovely wine list as well! Neighborhood gem.
I would not recommend this restaurant for Thanksgiving... food was highly overpriced and not good... I also stood at the front just trying to check in for my reservation and was ignored for 20 minutes (not exaggerating)... the host kept looking at me and then wouldn’t communicate with me. I was a server for years and have a lot of patience/understanding but the way my gf and I were treated very poorly. I would have walked out but no other places were open and I would have been charged $20. What a diss appointment.
I had Thanksgiving dinner at Cocotte. What a great experience. First, the food is superb. Second, the service is excellent - the wait staff knows that Cocotte is a tiny space, and they work hard to make you comfortable while you wait for a table. Finally, Cocotte maximizes the use of its small room; I never felt crowded even though the place was packed.
Cocotte is an outstanding restaurant. I highly recommend it.
Cocotte was fabulous for Thanksgiving. The beef Wellington was cooked to perfection, the pork belly salad was a lovely balance of sweet and savor and banana crepe brûlée out of this world. Our server was delightful.
Went with family and a friend for Thanksgiving prix fixe menu. Service was very friendly. We arrived early and they sat us at the bar for drinks until our table was ready. Food was excellent and the ambiance was perfect for a cozy family gathering on a cold SF day. It was exactly what we were expecting.
I love this restaurant - it’s cozy and familiar and every meal has been great. They also have a great wine list. Will be back again soon!
Delicious food! I had the pork special and it was super tender and flavorful. My husband had the gnocchi and loved it.
Had a fantastic date night here with my wife. The service and food was amazing. Looking forward to going back.
intimate, delicious--a wonderful place for dinner with friends.
The food and service is amazing. Afraid to leave a review because this place is an amazing hidden gem.
