Cocotte restaurant merges the timeless essence of the traditional French rotisserie with avant-garde flavors inspired by Califonia’s farm-fresh palate.
So disappointed! We’ve been looking forward to trying Cocotte after reading some of the reviews, looking at the menu and just because we love the neighborhood. Unfortunately, we were sorely disappointed by the overall experience. We spend a great deal of time traveling in Europe and are used to leisurely dining experiences and frankly don’t like being interrupted every 5 minutes. However, the amount of time we were left waiting before being offered water, a drink (30 min) was insane. When I tried to catch the waiter’s eye, he rushed past our table and yelled something quickly we couldn’t quite make out. It appeared the problem was that there was one person who was the host, waiter, busboy, wine steward for entire restaurant ( approx. 10 tables about 1/2 2 tops and 1/2 4 tops) and 4 spots at bar which were all full at same time.
The food was also just ok, but nothing special. My daughter’s salmon crudo was actually quite weird with a heavy crepe almost pancake underneath the salmon mixed with some type of cream rather than a clean citrus/olive oil blend that one thinks of with crudo-it actually tasted sweet which was offputting. The rest of our food was fine, but nothing we’d remember next week. Sadly-Cocotte was a swing and a miss for us.
Great restaurant, food, service, staff, owner. Will return for certain.
My wife and I have been going to Cocotte off and on for many years and during that time have introduced many of our friends to it. We’ve had outstanding meals and some that weren’t so. On Aug 2nd we returned for an anniversary dinner, my wife had Beef Wellington and I ordered the bass. As I brought the first bite to my mouth I could smell the fish and the taste wasn’t much better. The presentation was nice but the bed of couscous or whatever it was placed on detracted instead of enhancing . Fortunately we had ordered a couple of side plates which were good. But that’s the end of my patronage with this restaurant. In this town there is NO excuse for serving fish past its prime. We will not return.
Stephan ALWAYS a great host. Cocotte has been our 'go to' spot for a quick and delicious bite to eat if we're in and around Nob Hill. I think I rotate between the beef Wellington and the roasted chicken on my last few trips. Pro Tip: Parking is challenging. We park in Union Square area and Lyft/Uber to Cocotte. Or I guess you can jump on the cable car. Runs right in front!
Hospitality is what takes this place to the next level. Food, drink is amazing, but the experience will bring you back.
Cocotte re-incarnation of the Hyde Street Bistro does not disappoint. This outstanding neighborhood restaurant has lost none of its charm and remains a welcoming place. The kitchen executes extremely well on its regular menu items and complements the basics with seasonal offerings. The service strikes the proper balance between professional and friendly. Cocotte is a good example of why San Francisco is a culinary mecca.
A little touch of Paris. Friendly staff.
Very good food. I really liked the mussels, this appetizer with a side of their home cut fries made for a tasty, satisfying dinner. Service was attentive. So, we will be back to this cozy restaurant that’s not 4 blocks from our apartment.
This place is very nice with European ambiance, excellent food and really nice staff. It is very romantic and perfect for a date.
Enjoyed the service very much. The salad and coq au vin were delicious! The chocolate molten cake was okay. Great overall.
Love this little neighborhood restaurant. Everything I’ve had there is delicious. Ok the Lobster salad wasn’t great but I’ll give them a pass because of the rest of the food! Have been several times and will keep coming back.
Our waiter barely came to check on us, but the other staff members were great. The food was pretty flavorful, but nothing incredible. It was extremely loud whenever the washer in the back was using the sprayer to clean, and the music was really loud. There are much better restaurants to spend the same amount of money and time in San Francisco.
The food was delicious especially the pork chop and chicken. We will go back and enjoy the fine wines and food.
Have already recommended Cocotte to a number of friends. Great food and service. Good wine list. Lovely restaurant, really perfect for couples.
This is a great neighborhood spot suitable for a date or a dinner with a good friend. The atmosphere is lovely and that of a small French bistro - which this is! Couples on a romantic dinner should request the 'nook' table around the corner. It is very private and quiet while retaining a view of the cozy dining room.
Excellent food. Noise level was a little out of control at times, likely due to the special event.
A bistro in the best sense of the word I.e. a great neighborhood restraint.
Cocotte is a lovely little restaurant with excellent food. They are so accommodating and friendly. It’s one of our favorite small restaurants.
A wonderful meal with excellent service.
We actually had a wonderful dinner here with our party totaling 5 people.
However, we were not informed (when we were seated or when the bill was presented to us) of the mandatory 20% tip which was included in the total, and we proceeded to tip another 20%, something which we did not realize until we arrived home, scratched our heads and thought, gosh, that was a more expensive meal than it should have been.
It is quite confusing because the credit card slip which we signed includes a "tip chart", which caused us to miscue and include another tip.
What is really unfortunate is that I see many reviews on Yelp from other patrons of Cocotte complaining about exactly the same thing!
Excellent service and delicious cuisine. We will certainly recommend Cocotte to our friends!
If what the waiter told me were true, I’d understand and be more sympathetic to the understaff situation. And maybe he was telling me the truth but his attitude was rude. I wouldn’t go there again. Terrible experience.
Our favorite restaurant in San Francisco. Food is awesome, staff is wonderful and there is always a great vibe to the place. Wine list is excellent as well.
We were heading to a show at The Masonic. It was a lovely walk from the restaurant, which felt like we were in a little street in France. Dont miss the osso bucco. Other items-like the rotisserie chicken are delicious as well.
Enjoyed our evening. Good food, nice ambience! Will eat there again!
Been here many times. Food is always of great quality. The service was always great. Must try the Beef Wellington and their famous rotisserie chicken.
Great potential. I think we just may have caught them on a busy night. The staff were very kind, being busy made being attentive quite tough though. Awesome food and the cheese plate was great!
Had a great time, food was amazing , drinks were good. Very cool building next to the cable car tracks where you have dinner and you could see the cable cars passing by ! The manager was such a nice guy and everything was perfect ! We will be back here for sure, one of the best restaurants in the city!
I was disappointed that I specifically asked for a special arrangement for my birthday guest and they were ignored. No mention of a birthday or candle on a dresser. The food was also not great and I will not be coming back.
Cozy place. Small but comfortable. Service was attentive but not overpowering. Food, wine was really good. Only wine, no cocktails, fyi...
Definitely loud, so not your quiet evening out place to go.....
Dinner at Cocotte was excellent; we ate mussels, swordfish, pork on the bone and two great deserts (plus wine from a great wine list.) It is a lively restaurant with good service and a nice feel on a cool night in Russian Hill.
We had a great meal at Cocotte after a performance of the SF Ballet. The food was excellent, both the Coq au vin & my 'Butcher's cut' which was Osso Bucco. We also had salads which were lightly dressed and very tasty. The bread is optional, but it was delicious, served warm with olive tapenade. I would definitely recommend Cocotte to my friends.
Great little French spot. Fun, energetic and very good food.
Accommodating service, excellent food, and albeit tight, it’s a romantic and intimate setting. Thanks for a fantastic date dinner!
Wonderful meal, great service, adorable neighborhood restaurant.
The Valentine’s Day prefix menu was definitely overpriced, but that’s what I get for looking for a table at the last minute :)
A very cozy small restaurant with good food in a neighborhood. Feels like you've been transported to Paris!
Our experience, on a busy Friday night, was much better than we had expected. Meats were perfectly done, wine was great and service was fine, if slightly rushed. We’ll be back.
AMAZING, Wellington was EXQUISITE! Highly recommend, everyone is so kind
