Coco's Bistro Ratings and Reviews
I have been going to Coco’s since it was on Wayne Ave. We love the food, flash fried fresh spinach found nowhere else outside NYC China Grill. Karen and Jim have created a special atmosphere for friends, good food and drink, and family gatherings here in the heart of Dayton. The support of Stivers High School and the showcasing of students art and music shows how they put their efforts toward a better DaytonCommunity. Thank you both!
My Girlfriend and I went to CoCo's to celebrate a belated Valentine's Day dinner. I would recommend making a reservation, the place was packed! Our server was friendly, knowledgeable, and on top of it. Before ordering he took the time to check with the kitchen how many specials were left for the night (one was remaining, the table next to us ordered it and it looked fantastic!) Our server also had a good deal of knowledge about their wine list and was able to recommend a nice blend to go with my entree.
We started the meal with cocktails, which were fantastic. Afterwards, we ordered the fried Brie appetizer. It was as decadent as it sounds, and the bruchetta topping was the real star of the dish.
Be sure to enjoy the butter that comes with the bread: it is made in house and had a great subtle sweetness.
For entrees, my girlfriend ordered the filet and I ordered the duck. The duck was cooked to medium rare and was served alongside a roasted poblano risotto, which was perfectly seasoned and had a deep chile pepper flavor. The filet was a magnificent 3" cut of beef, cooked perfectly by the kitchen.
We enjoyed the food and the atmosphere so much, we will definitely be back and recommend CoCo's to anyone looking for a great meal in Dayton!
My daughter and I go to the restaurant to have dinner prior to our Schuster Broadway Series. We have done this frequently. The last four times we have found the food just OK. Prior to this I have raved and recommended to others. I was very disappoint with the filet ordered and the salad. The wind was fine. The service adequate but the server appeared rushed and hurried. I'm going to wait awhile before I return and If nothing has changed I will not be back.
We went for Valentines Day because we love to try new places. The food was very good, Adam was our waiter and he was very attentive. I was disappointed that they had run out of Trout, the main seafood entree. Our reservation was at 6:45 so it was not late in the evening. Being a pretty big holiday dining night, I would have thought they would have been more prepared to serve one of the main courses for the entire evening. I ordered something else sort of off the cuff and it was very good but not what I was looking forward to for dinner. The lobster cakes and my signature drink were excellent and we will dine there again.
This was a disappointing meal. My wife and I had heard many great comment about this place so we went to see if was indeed a great restaurant.
Started with waiting for 5 minutes before a hostess noticed us. Then we were invited to wait. Then the hostess ask us and a later arriving party “who wants to go first”? Should’ve realized the A team was not working that day.
The good. Fresh, unique, and nicely prepared. Tomato bisque, spinach salad, fried spinach. Very enjoyable. Should have stopped there.
The bad. Hamburger and fries. Bistro is French, right? The quality of the fries doesn’t match up to McDonalds. The first batch was luke warm the second batch was warm. But it didn’t matter they are just a below average bag a fries from a food service no doubt. The burger was lean and tough.
The ugly. The waiter had multiple tables. One of which had 9 people. We pleaded for drink refills and eventually got them. Waiter was nice enough but harried. None of the numerous not busy people seems to have a care in the world.
There was enough good food that we will try it for dinner. But with a jaundiced eye towards quality and service. Maybe lunch isn’t their thing.
Wife and I went there for Valentine's Day dinner. First time there. You don't have to make reservations, but luckily I did. Otherwise, we definitely wouldn't have gotten in for dinner that evening. Probably don't need reservations for lunch time meals or slower evenings, but definitely need reservations on special occasion evenings like Valentine's Day. We thoroughly enjoyed the food, ambiance, and service. Steve waited on us and did a fantastic job! All of the staff were very friendly and professional. Cost-wise it's a little more than we would normally spend on a meal; thus, a great place for a special occasion like a birthday or any other celebratory event. We had a great evening and I'm sure we'll return there again in the future. :-)
Seated promptly at a two-top window table. Hot bread & side salads served before our main course. Both were delicious. We selected wines for our dinner from an expansive wine menu.
I ordered the Cider Lacquered Duck w/roasted problano risotto and fried apples. Delicious! Even though the restaurant was crowded, the atmosphere remained pleasant and we could enjoy table talk without raising our voices throughout our dinner.
We ended our dinner with fresh coffee and an evil Walnut Ball for two with vanilla bean ice cream, French burnt walnuts & hot fudge. (Not for the weak at heart).
We loved that our dinner servings were served in a "European manner" and we could enjoy each serving without feeling rushed and talk to each other pleasantly without background noise.
Very enjoyable experience.
Took a co-worker to lunch to discuss upcoming events. It was the perfect setting and having arrived a little early, we were seated by the window. The nice thing is their tables for two are not the usual small tables, but the size of a four-top. Tend to order the same things for lunch every time I go there...but I’m able to put my own twist on my order. Coco’s is always a go to for me...the food is consistently good.
Excellent food, Hatch Chop was to die for as was the Ahi. Had a great hummus appetizer. Drink and wine selection were great. Service by Teri was superb, and Michael at the host stand was very polite and friendly. Always the best food, with unique and appetizing flavors.
I had their Restaurant Week menu on Friday. Loved it. The bluecheese steak spaghetti alfredo was my favorite. The desserts were very rich and the portions were small (perfect, to me). The spinach salad with walnuts was also solid. The wine pairings were well done.
We have visited Coco's on two occasions in the past year, one lunch and one dinner outing. Coco's is a 40 mile drive (one way) for us and worth every mile of the drive! We have enjoyed both lunch and dinner. It has a sophisticated and formal appearance but a warm and friendly atmosphere. The menu is not overwhelming yet there is something for everyone. This past dinner outing, we were a party of six and we all ordered something different. Everyone was quite happy with their choice. As good as the entry was, I think I could have eaten only appetizers! They were absolutely delicious. Karen and Michael are the owners and some of the nicest, down to earth people you will ever meet! I may sound a bit bias but I am not. It truly was a delight! We plan to make the trip on a monthly basis.
The short ribs were fall off the bone, melt in your mouth tender an delicious. Don't let the sauerkraut sway you. It was a small amount and caramelized. I prefer a little more tang but it was good. The duck that my husband ate was also excellent. The server (Jason) was friendly, attentive and helpful. Portion sizes were more than enough.
The menu found on Open Table is not accurate. I was told it is about 3 years old and despite the restaurant's attempts to correct it, it is still inaccurate. It almost influenced me to not go to Coco's that evening. Glad I still went because the menu they had was very much to my liking and we had a perfect meal.
