Though Hoboken is over 1,300 miles away from sunny Cuba, CoCo Havana Cafe and Lounge brings a taste of tropical cuisine and atmosphere to the shores of the Hudson. Walk in for a relaxing drink or dinner for two, and you'll find an elegant yet approachable environment with gorgeous ornate chandeliers hanging above the bar and candles illuminating each table, a warm fireplace built flush into the wall and a playful map of Cuba stylized in the shape of a marlin. Meals of tender steaks, cuban sandwiches and empanadas are perfectly paired with colorful cocktails and mojitos garnished with fresh mint and sugarcane. After dark, the Caribbean café turns into a lively nightlife spot, with live DJs, karaoke sing-offs, and plenty of salsa dancing.
Went here for my birthday and it's the best experience I ever had! Everyone was so kind and the food was delicious. 10/10 recommend
Although the food is delicious, it's never how I ask for it to be prepared. I never bring the food back because although it's not cooked the way I ask it's still ok.
For example, I've been here 3 times for brunch and I've ordered the same exact thing (desayuno churasco) and I ask for the churasco cooked medium, and the 2 eggs to be "runny"...I've never gotten my churasco medium OR my eggs runny. Last time I was there the eggs were overly fried and the churasco was closer to well done.
Great food. I had the vaca frita and loved it. It tasted great. My only issue was the service. The waiter wasn’t the best. We felt like we had to keep up with him instead of him waiting on us. But besides that i would eat there again.
Great food great environment would definitely go back. Drinks are very good and not watered down like some other places
Food was decent, but service was poor and confusing? My entree came out first, then the appetizer, then my date's entree. They didn't have my original entree selection and I needed to choose another, which was fine, but I wasn't given a menu to look for a new selection until I asked for one. The initial entree I ordered also wasn't taken off the bill at the end and we had to point it out to the waiter.
Phenomenal food. Great atmosphere. The bread was presented in a cigar box and tasted as if it had been basted in butter.
the food is good. the issue is that they close the kitchen at 10 pm but will accept reservations until 930. we felt rushed to order food. we couldnt get dessert. they should not allow reservations past 9 pm. they also move the entire place around and move ppl so they can make it a lounge. very disrupting.
My friends and I went to Coco Havana for my Birthday dinner. We made reservations at 9:15pm, and we were being rushed due to the kitchen closing at 10pm. My friends requested a dessert to sing Happy Birthday, and the waiter was unable to accommodate our request because his manager didn’t allow him to. So not only were we rushed with our food to remove the tables from us, but we were unable to celebrate my birthday. If that’s the case, why allow people to make reservations at that time? The “busboy” was rude and Coco Havana’s manager had no care in the world that we were celebrating a special occasion. Besides the mishap, our waiter was very polite and extremely kind, so we appreciated that. We understood the situation was out of his control. If I would’ve known, we would’ve went earlier in the evening so we can eat in peace and at least get a dessert to sing Happy Birthday amongst ourselves. The food was delicious, but the service we received (on behalf of management) could’ve been handled differently.
Avoid Friday nights
I arrived at 7 on a Friday night. The bar was crowded and noisy. Two other people were waiting to be seated but there was no one on duty. I went looking for a server and found one who came up front and waved us to tables. The dining room was empty except for one large party. A server took my drink order. When he brought the drink, he ignored the person who had joined me at my table and walked away without taking his order. A runner dropped a box of bread on the table, then went outside and smoked a cigarette in front of the window, in full view. The food took forever to come, even with most of the tables empty. Most of it was good; the black rice and beans were not. The music was very loud. The servers were friendly but unprofessional. Three meals came well before the fourth. I'll never eat there again.
The service was horrible. I had my 25th bday planned here for a table of 15. Had reservations set for 8:30pm 2 weeks in advance. They even called & confirmed with me an hour ahead. When we all arrived they had no idea we were coming. Then told us we had to wait for a table to clear before we can be seated even though I had reservations planned. We didn’t get seated till two hours later. When we were finally seated they told us the kitchen closes in 10 min so we had to rush to order. Then we had to wait another hour for our meals. Then everyone didn’t get their meal. Only a few of us. Food was great but the service was horrible. It’s so much more to the story Smh they lack communication between staff overall.
Our first time here. We enjoyed all of the food we got - it was a fun atmosphere!
To start off, we had been calling this restaurant for about one week (from open to close time) to try and confirm our reservation. We left voicemails and even emailed with no luck. Management never returned our call! How terrible! We were a party of 10 looking to see if we could accommodate 13 instead since it was my friends birthday, so before we invited the 3 additional people, we wanted confirmation. The one time I managed to get a hold of someone, it was a very elderly gentleman who was extremely unhelpful. He stated that the manager was not in and I would need to call back in 10 minutes- of course, when I did, no answer. Useless! The day of is where we were disappointed again. Once seated, we waited over a half hour for the waiter to come and take our orders. Mind you, this wouldn’t have been an issue if the restaurant was packed, but it wasn’t. Once the waiter finally took our order, the drinks took an hour to come, and the food over and hour and a half. Of the 10 orders, 5 were incorrect. All the food was cold. And two of the hot beverages (coffee and latte) were cold. We sent the 5 orders back and the coffee back as well. The skirt steaks and the eggs were all made incorrectly (medium was well done, over medium was over easy). Needless to say, no one was happy with the experience. It’s unfortunate this place takes auto-gratuity for such terrible food, service, and quality. Spend your boozy brunch time and $ elsewhere. You think 27$ bucks is a great deal but we didn’t even get what we paid for. DO NOT GO HERE!
Total disaster - it was SantaCon in Hoboken and the restaurant was not serving food, tables had been removed, just loud music and a lot of drunk Santas.
Seemed unprepared to handle a large party (12 people), with only 1 chef on staff for lunch. Food took over an hour to come out, and they didn't advice us of this at time of booking or when we were seated. Food, once it arrived, was good and in generous portions.
Really great brunch food and at an amazing price!! My roommate and I went there for a birthday brunch and we each got an entree and a mimosa and the combined total of the bill was just $25! and the food was amazing(:
Loved this place!y boyfriend and I went for brunch at 11:30 on a Saturday morning and it wasn't crowded at all. Their bottomless brunch deal gets you a choice of food plus unlimited mimosas, bellinis or manmosas for 2 hours. You also have the option to switch your beverage type so you're not limited to just one. Normally at bottomless places, you'll get an attitude for taking advantage of the all you can drink but our waiter was super friendly and brought us a second pitcher without us having to ask. Food was delicious and the place was very cute and clean. Can't wait to go back!
Not true cuban cuisine.
They took forever to bring out the mimosas, very stingy on refills (like once every 40 minutes), even though it was a bottomless brunch.
The food was disgusting. They took forever to bring it out, the food was cold, the pancakes were hard.
Third time back, this time it was for my bday and they did not disappoint!
It was my first tim here and I must say that the atmosphere was great . Food was amazing and the staff members were soo pleasant and in handy . Great place .
I went to Coco Havana with my boyfriend and another couple for brunch. We got the bottomless mimosas, bellinis, and mannosas for $27. The server, Johnny, was a bit bizarre. But he did fill our drinks quickly, and that’s all you can ask for. The food was decent at best (my eggs were way overcooked and my friend’s eggs benedict came with scrambled eggs). However, the price was very low, so you get what you pay for.
We will be back. Booked this neighborhood gem in Hoboken to celebrate family birthdays! Restaurant started out pretty noisy at 4pm on a Sunday, with lots of celebrations happening, quieted down after an hour or so as earlier parties departed. Food was great, bartender was great as we waited for our full party to arrive. Cocktails were delicious. Very good value. We can't wait to return and try more appetizers. Ox tails, steak and salmon were all enjoyed. Portions were generous. Great energy, and a great place for celebrating. Sadly, only dessert left was flan so they offered us milkshakes from sister restaurant which were amazing. Looking forward to our next visit, and we are bringing friends!
Amazing food. Everyone loved it. Place looked great, amazin décor. 100% would return.
The food here is absolutely amazing! Any Cuban food that can remind me of my grandmothers cooking is automatically a win for me.
Great spot. A lot less crowded than I expected. Service was amazing and so was the food. Brunch is a must for the area.
Amazing atmosphere! And even more amazing delicious food!!!!!!
I did not get a chance to dine.Because unfortunately,at the time I went was still breakfast being served ,and it was 1:30 Pm?? Did not want to eat breakfast. We walked out instead.
Food was great. Service was slow. Took 23 mins for someone to take our order after I asked the hostess twice for someone to come attend us. 10$ a shot for Hennessy also is a bit pricy.
My family and I had a lovely time at Coco Havana. The music was great. The food was delicious. Our server, Eddie, was professional, friendly and was happy to assist us. This was our second time and it was truly enjoyable! We will be back for sure.
It was my birthday and the staff was so detailed and very attentive. Food was amazing
Brunch was fun, the pancakes are terrible. They taste like they microwaved them, other than that everything was good. Drinks were great
There's no champagne in the mimosas.
We went there for dinner and dancing as the website stayed that on Tuesdays you offered salsa lessons. We were fine with no lessons. We understand that may not have been popular. However I felt the food was awful.
I had salmon with yuca fries and asparagus. Salmon was okay but fries were hard and dry and the asparagus was soggy and oily. I cannot comment on my friends meals but neither one of them mentioned the food. It was embarrassing as we went their for one of their birthday.
The place is really nice, food and service was great. The music is just a bit too loud. I had to yell across the table to speak to my husband and everyone around as well making the place noises. I would recommend just to lower the music a little and this place would be perfect. By the way I'm hispanic and love music and it was pretty loud for me.
The food was great and the service was exceptional. We didn't have to wait to be seated since we had a reservation it was perfect. Let me not forget to mention the outstanding drinks !......I would def go again.
Love this place. Only downside of this visit was that my steak was way overcooked
What a great find. I cannot wait to go back. I wish I could give extra stars for VALUE. My buddy and I went for Sunday Brunch and for the two pitchers of "Manmosas" and entrees that were consumed by us, we came out under $30 per person. And the food was fantastic. I had classic eggs benedict (i would have tried the ropa vieja benedict but it wasn't available. Nbd.) My friend has steak and eggs which he enjoyed as well. The servers are speedy and very friendly. This all added up to a great time at Coco Havana!
Went out for a good-bye dinner with my girl friend who is moving away and we had a really good time. Food was great then after dinner they take away the tables and it turns into a dance floor. Music was great!
Food was great, Service was terrible
Good food if you're not in a rush. Converts to a lively nightclub around 11pm
