Only thing that was unfortunate was that the majority of the dishes were "pre-made" which made it difficult for the vegan to have options outside of the salad. Beyond that, the tortilla soup, tacos and gorditas were really good.
We reserved a table outdoors at 7 p.m. We arrived on time and had to wait 35 minutes for our table. We waited in the bar and could see that there were several open tables outside that had not been bussed. Once they called us to our table, we had to wait another 10 minutes because they would not transfer our bar tab to our dinner tab. Once we were seated, the service was great and the food was excellent.
Food was good but service was HORRIBLE! Ex. Asked for salt and it just never came. Couldn't re-ask simple because the server never bothered to return and ask. The service times for check in were very long. Advice: order everything upfront and don't expect to be served there after.
I have never left a restaurant review but felt the need for this one! I was highly disappointed in our lunch. This was a birthday celebration and our first time visit. For starters, I brought a balloon, flowers, etc for the 18th birthday girl and was surprised there was no acknowledgment by any of the wait staff; The chips served before lunch were stale and served with about 1 tablespoon of salsa for 4 people; the menu selections were surprising for a Mexican restaurant and not what you would expect; the meal I received included overly cooked, hard and dry pork and my son’s chicken enchiladas had bones and was undercooked. We didn’t complain at lunch so as to not embarrass the birthday girl. I will be extremely surprised if this place lasts. This will not meet the expectations of Danville restaurant patrons. Harsh, but true.
Friendly service, nice outdoor seating and good food
The food was really good but the service was horrible!!
Love the street style size tacos. The tacos were so good and I love the smaller size. Not too small but filling. I also the frozen rose! :-)
Food was very good, but portions were very small for the price
Still finding their way in the kitchen but a beautiful patio.
Our server was great. The problem was it took 25 minutes to get appetizer. When we arrived at 6 pm the restaurant was half empty. Once we got appetizer it then took another 25 min for food. I had to send back my margarita as it tasted like cough syrup. I can’t blame the server but she should have given us a free round of cocktails. I even spoke to manager before our food arrived and said would like to get food. He only said we have had over 100 covers so far. Considering most of those came in after us. I think the manager response was rude and silly.
Food was only average. Server was nice but very slow her excuse was she pushed the wrong button on the computer! There was no overhead light over our table & the worst was when we tried to order coffee with our dessert, we were told they don’t serve coffee! We’ve never been to a restaurant they didn’t serve coffee! Needless to say, we will not be back! Quite a disappointment!
Nice spot downtown for a bite. Portions are right-sized and we often try to sit in the back patio...it's off the street and Mike has done a great job with the patio plants.
So went we here after hearing good things. The food and the ambiance was really good. Our server was not very good. 1st it took forever to get service and it took even longer to get our drinks. Our server never gave us any recommendations on what to order, so we were on our own. The food again was very good but we did feel left out when our server didn’t give recommendations and a different server next to our table was giving the other patrons all sorts of ideas. What is disappointing is that after our food came my wife’s drink didn’t come till she was finished with her food and it was just wine. But they did comp us the drinks. Overall we will give it another shot but hopefully the service is significantly better.
Service was excellent but not a lot of choices on the menu. Albeit, the food we did eat was good
I ordered the chicken enchiladas and they were delicious. My friend ordered the burrito, which she said was tasty and huge. We sat on the patio, so it was quiet and pleasant. The only negative was that the service was terrible. Once our food was delivered, no one ever returned to the table to refill our water glasses or sodas. We had to ask for the check, and waited quite awhile for it to be delivered to us. It wasn't even very busy the day we were there, so don't know if they were short-staffed or what, but the service (or lack thereof) was disappointing. That said, I would go back because the food was very good.
The food was very good, but the portions were somewhat small for the price.
Great food but the service is very poor. The restaurant wasn’t busy at all and we had long wait times for chips and salsa, for our main course and just a lack of service from the staff.
Excellent location. Attentive servers. Delicious food!
Not please with the meal
Not a typical Mexican restaurant experience.
The staff was great and worked hard but the meal itself was not what we anticipated
3 people and the cost was extremely expensive. Much better value at local Mexican restaurants. Sorry 🙁
Reasonably good food. We had a mix of taco's and they were all ok. Main issue was service - it must have taken 20 mins for our server to come and take our drinks order. The service from ordering food to be served was fast - getting a drink post-meal was impossible. Probably wouldn't return the food wasnt good enough to put up with service. The place wasn't busy either.
Noise was a slight problem. However the host did turn it down a notch for us!
The food selection is weak and the prices are high. The food quality is very good/excellent. Pricing should be adjusted.
Went during the Danville Car Show, got a great spot in the back patio...great food.
The server Madison was excellent!
Good menu, food very good, especially enjoyed the churros for dessert which were not too sweet. Waiter was friendly and good natured as he returned a few times to see if we were ready to order. Will definitely come back. Outdoor patio in back small but inviting.
Great spot for a quick, tasty bite...outdoor tables are nice.
I was encouraged about Cocina Hermanas after it opened but like many restaurants, the quality and service has done nothing but decline since opening. We will not be going back.
We made reservations for the patio area as I enjoy outdoor dining when the weather is nice. We didn’t have to wait once we arrived and the patio space is nice. The ambiance was relaxed and servers were very friendly. We had the guacamole and chips and salsa which was delicious and then had the ceviche as a starter. Ceviche was a little bland. We had tortilla soup and enchiladas as well, both delicious. I expected to have food that wasn’t authentic but as long as flavors are there. Prices are like most Danville restaurants, a little higher. Good location right in downtown, will be back
This restaurant is located in a great little spot on the corner of Church and Hartz Ave. I wanted to love it. I did not. Going back to Maria Maria.
Food was good but overpriced for Mexican food they charged $8 for guacamole that was probably a dollars worth of avocado. Not sure I would go back . Outside seating was nice.
Love it! This was our 2nd time coming here and tried other dishes. Super yummy enchiladas and tacos! Also the margaritas!
We got our cheese dip and they forgot to bring the chips. It only took them an additional 10 minutes for the chips. Food was at best average. We would not go back v
My wife and I went on a day when this had just been reviewed in the East Bay Times. Maybe it was overloaded and that caused the problems we experienced.
We had two items - Ensalada De Lechuga Mixta (we shared) and Carne Asada tacos (an order each). The salad was, try as we might, almost inedible. It had a taste that was so heavily salty that it overwhelmed what was otherwise a nice combination of ingredients. It was like eating a teaspoon of straight salt. The waiter and manager suggested that the salty taste was from the included tortilla ships, but we ate some of those separately and, while seasoned, they were not the source of the salty taste. We did not get far in the salad and the manager "comped it". The tacos, written up in the paper as the star of the menu, arrived with the meat filling so "wet", whether from the grilled onions or other oil, such that the tortillas began to fall apart almost immediately, making eating by hand very difficult. While my taco content were ok, my wife encountered several pieces of "meat" that were grizzle or chunks of fat. She managed to eat one, separating our the inedible parts and passed on the other.
So...we wish them well as a new restaurant and the rush due to press that same day may have caused problems, but based on our experience and the number of excellent Mexican restaurants in the area we won't likely be back.
The food was very good but the service was a bit haphazard. We ordered several appetizers that all required chips for dipping and one tiny bowl of chips were provided for 5 appetizers (we were a large party). Waitstaff does not actively seek if you're doing ok and it took a while to get attention to get more chips. Just a nit but for a Mexican restaurant, there's no need to be stingy with the chips.
But, everything tasted very good- very fresh, good temperature, nice seasonings. Service needs some tightening up and the experience will be so much better.
Great rough but service is still a work in progress
Great food, and drinks. All very well presented. However this is all ruined by absolutely awful service. Waiters taking drink orders and then being told 10 mins later, by the manager they never wrote them down and forgot them (to be fair manager comp'd the drinks). Later we didn't receive chips when ordered, drink refills, to go bags etc. Was so hard to find a waiter to reorder drinks. Rarely checked on throughout the evening. Really ruined what is clearly a well run kitchen. Hopefully they can fix this fast, but it's clear serious investment in service staff is needed. The manager can only do some much cleaning up. I'm not sure I will ever go back, despite greatly enjoying the good and drinks. What a shame :(
Food and service were great! They need more umbrellas for the front outside seating area. If you sit outside during lunch time, be prepared with sunscreen.
We had a wonderful time and the employees were all very friendly and helpful! Glad we had a reservation it was very well filled. Food was very delicious!!!!
Enjoyed our lunch. Exceeded expectations- very nice
Went for Happy Hour with a good friend. Decent drinks (Margaritas) and snacks (queso, fish tacos, watermelon salad). Not crowded. Solid HH apps. Reasonably priced drinks.
