The place was empty on a Sunday morning. Menu was limited and food was mediocre.
SECOND TRIP AND IT WAS MUCH BETTER THIS TIME.....THE CHICKEN AND WAFFLES WAS TO DIE FOR....I HAD OUT OF TOWN GUEST AND THEY WERE IMPRESSED.
FOOD WAS OK.....BUT NOTHING TO RAVE ABOUT....SHORT RIBS DRY AND TOUGHT....DRINKS AND THE SERVICE WERE TRULY FANTASTIC.....AND THIS WWOULD BE THE ONLY REASON I WOULD GO BACK...ALSO A COCKTAIL PARTY WAS ION PROCESS AND THEY WERE SO LOUD WE COULD HARDLY TALK TO ONE ANOTHER.
Had the shrimp and grits. Had 3 nice pieces of shrimp. But it barely had any grits, like really a very small spoonful, and there was a very watery broth instead of creamy grits. But I will say the flavor was great.
Wow - we hadn't been to the Berkeley to eat in years and decided to give Cobblestone a try. It was terrific. First and foremost, perhaps because we were relatively early (7pm reservations) we were literally the only people in the place for the first 45 minutes. That added to the ambiance as the space is intimate and comfortable.
Service was terrific. While none of us got the server's name, she was very knowledgeable about the menu items, how things were prepared, and all of her recommendations were spot on. I had the short ribs with bourbon carrots and mashed potato's which was fantastic. My wife had the pork chop with drunken peaches - if you like bourbon this is the dish for you.
None of use generally get dessert but the bourbon caramel bread pudding was to die for! Don't miss it. We will absolutely be back.
We ordered the steak, the most expensive item on the menu, and it had loads of gristle. The bisque had a skin on it. We noted that it was our anniversary when we made the reservation and no mention of the occasion was made. (We actually had our reception there 20 years ago.) The host was not at the desk and we had to find someone to seat us.
The staff was sweet but the food was terrible. Usually I am much harder on the service staff, but this was really bad food.
Everything was fair. The food was tasty but I didn't really enjoy it. The waiter only had two tables and didn't pay attention to details.

I took my family here to celebrate Mother's Day after church. The service was great, the price was right and the food was delicious. Everyone talked for the rest of the day about how great the restaurant was an how amazing the food was. We will be back.
I had the absolute worse experience while dining here for my graduate celebration. Our food never came out, our drinks never came out and the management had the nerve to berate me and my guests.

Another out of town couple and we stayed at The Berkeley and had our arrival night dinner in the Cobblestone Bar & Grill after drinks in the bar. Our server in the bar, Beth Ann, gave us a very personable welcome and excellent service. We wound up staying on long enough to be an hour late for our dinner reservation in the adjoining restaurant, but Beth Ann and our server in the restaurant were aware of our delay. Will, our server in the restaurant, did a very nice job for us and we found this was a good setting for relaxing after our respective travels. We also had very pleasant breakfasts in the Cobblestone Bar & Grill each of our four mornings during our stay at The Berkeley. Our breakfast server for three of the mornings, Jo, was especially personable and attentive.
The best meal we have had in a while. We loved the white time and black fried rice!!! The craft beer selection is always stellar!
Just after church meal
Very nice ambiance and atmosphere. It's not crowded and they were very accommodating. I wanted something that was not on the menu and our waiter went above and beyond to ask the chef if this could be done. Needless to say they could make the meal that I desired and everything was great! After our meal my friend was trwated to a complimentary dessert for his birthday.
Our bartender, Beth Ann, was excellent. She recommended 2 wines that we really enjoyed. Will, our waiter was excellent and the food was really good. we also enjoyed talking to Tony, the chef.
An all around good experience.
Ok I am going to mark up the slow meal service to it being Valentine's Day. It took just over 30 minutes for the entree's to come out after our soup and salad. There really shouldn’t have been any surprises on the number of people as reservations for the prix fixe meal. The service was good but very busy. The entrees certainly weren’t the fault of the server. When they did finally arrive my wife had the Filet which was an ample serving and flavorful though it did have a little fat on it but still good. I had the scallops which were not only a disappointing 3 pieces, one was the size of a nickel and the other two not much but slightly bigger. If this was what the entre like was all night I would have preferred the waiter have told me it was a small portion and maybe I’d like to choose one of the other two selections – the beef or lamb. I think they were running short based on the long wait from the kitchen. It’s a shame to have a 4 course meal – soup, salad, entrée and dessert and go home hungry. I don’t think I’ll go back. I was disappointed because they generally had good to very good ratings and this was our first time eating here.
Had a reservation for Valentine’s Day date night. Was seated at the bar while we waited for the table. Received no service. Was told 4 times our table would be up shortly. Staff was running around and disorganized. Lighting was way too bright. Was loud like a saloon, not a beautiful intimate dinner spot like it used to be. Left after 50 minutes completely disgusted. Not the same charming, intimate place it used to be. Would avoid at all costs.
From the time we set down the service was horrible. Took 15-20 mins to put a drink order. It took over 1.5 hrs to get our entree. My lamb was raw and the desert grainy. Our waiter only had 4 2 top tables. He would vanish for 30+ minutes at a time. Tables who arrived after us got there food before we did.( all 2 tops as well) we will never eat here again. Several other tables had the same bad experience.
The service was excellent. The food was great. We will return to this establishment.
Pleasant...quiet and quaint. We were the only guests in the restaurant other than 4 people at the bar. Based on location, it appears to cater to the business crowd. The food was delicious and accommodating.
This has been my go to for business luncheons and as usual the food was excellent.

A pleasant experience - I had never been here before after living in Richmond for over 10 years now. I will definitely go again. Everything was great from the ambience, to the service, to the food!
This was the worst holiday buffet my family and I have ever experienced. The food was pretty horrible and the price was outrageous! My husband daughter and I were ill from the food we ate, horrible upset stomach. I was horrified when we received the bill and no one at the hostess desk to address the issues. Deviled eggs were rubber, mashed potatoes were grey and unappealing, tasted like powdered potatoes, the prime rib was ok, but the ham and Turkey made others sick. The beer that was ordered was skunky.
The food quality was not at all what I would expect for the price charged. Items on the buffet were ordinary in quality, lukewarm and not very fresh or flavorful. The deviled eggs were a bit crusty, as if they were a day old and had been sitting out. The experience was not at all memorable. With a glass of wine and a tip, I paid over $64.00. On Christmas Eve, I had a much, much better experience at The Boathouse at Sunday Park, and with wine and tip, spent under $40.00 there. I will not ever be back to the Cobblestone.
We had reserved a Christmas Eve table for three (my husband and I, along with our 12 year old daughter) long in advance, and were delighted to be promptly seated at a cozy window table with a nice view of Shockoe Slip's historic cobblestone streets. We watched diners and hotel guests arriving as we perused a rather limited three course, fixed price holiday menu. Service was polite, timely and knowledgeable. My husband had salmon, I had lamb and our daughter had beef tenderloin. While I wouldn't classify this as a restaurant for foodies, the food was well executed and each of us enjoyed our meal. The atmosphere was comfortable, clubby and quiet, with lots of wood and carpeting. We had a lovely evening and would return again.
I took my daughter and her friend to Cobblestone Café prior to seeing The Nutcracker. The food was excellent for both me (foodie) and the kids. The chicken and waffles was a great option for the kids. My meal was the Chef's Specialty Tomato Pie and Bisque. I highly recommend this restaurant. Will go again.
Food was marginal. Appetizer was meager. Had to ask for bread.No specials available on a Friday night. just overall disappointing
Although the menu was limited our choices were very good. The chef came out to check on us, which was a refreshing touch. Atmosphere was elegant and the decor was beautiful. Our server, Will, was outstanding.
My husband and I were staying at the Berkeley, and on this snowy evening, we decided to have dinner in-house at the Cobblestone. It was pretty much what we expected from the reviews. It’s basically an American bistro. The menu is not expansive, but innovative, and the flavors were very nice.
We were a bit disappointed at the choice of bourbons for our old fashioneds, but the drinks were made well with Eagle Rare.
We had the fried green tomatoes as an appetizer which were very good, but could’ve used some creme fresh to balance the acidity.
I had the tea teriyaki salmon, and it was quite nice, although I doubt it was wild-caught. My husband enjoyed the dirty bird with no complaints. For dessert we shared the pumpkin praline cheesecake, and it was very rich and a nice finish to our meal.
The restaurant has a pub/bistro ambiance, and was perfect for a quiet date night.
We loved our dinner and had great service! Can't believe it took us so long to try it out.
45 minutes from home Sat down until lunch was actually served. Unacceptable for lunch time crowd. Several orders within the group were wrong but we couldn't wait for corrections. Fries were served cold.
Dont go if u r in a hurry. Only 2 employees to cover door, bar and tables.
Food was adequate. The Berkeley Crab Bisque, a favorite in the past, was too thick, lacking in Sherry & room temperature.
The Cherry Pepsi Short Ribs had a nice flavor but was not cooked long enough to be fall off the bone tender.
We did not order dessert.
Staff was prompt & friendly.
Lighting was awful, all overhead lighting. Try some table lighting or candles.
We enjoyed our dinner. The food and service were excellent. Since we dined on a Sunday, the dining area was reasonably quiet.
