We were looking for special Christmas family experience. We ended up seated at a table in the bar. In bar atmosphere. Food was OK, but not special. The dining room was closed with no staff, which should have been noted. It might be nice for a lunch or different occasion.s
Unfortunately we did not enjoy our experience on Christmas morning with our brunch buffet. We were under the impression that it was going to be an actual buffet and not a version of the hotel’s continental breakfast. We were not staying at the hotel as we are locals and discovered that this was one of the few places open on Christmas Day so we were excited to have a nice meal (considering that it’s a Hilton)
The food was disgusting and way overpriced for such a small and limited buffet. Our server was great, however she did not mention the bottomless mimosas option and we might have done that to make up for the food. We were also very confused as we walked in because the coastal kitchen appeared to be closed but yet we were seated on the other side of the lobby I’m assuming with the hotel guests. We tried to give it a chance and hoped for the best but it was not what we expected and were very disappointed.
We went to the Thanksgiving buffet and it was wonderful. Full table of fresh seafood appetizers p;us carving station with turkey, beef and salmon, plus a full table with trimmings, including stuffing, giblet gravy, mashed potatoes, squash and green beans. Finally, a room full of desserts, including pumpkin pie, mince tart and more. Service was excellent.
Disappointed. Sea bass has no taste. A little seasoning wouldn’t hurt. Burger was ordered medium well but came out almost rare. It was for a kid. Pizza was soggy. Grilled cheese sandwich was okay. Beer selection was okay. Service was good. Attentive folls.
I usually come to Coastal Kitchen for the ambience more than the food, as the restaurant is lovely. I was pleasantly surprised to find out on this visit that Coastal Kitchen’s food game is on the rise, as everyone really enjoyed their meal and the new menu offerings. We shared the brie salad as an appetizer and it was amazing. Everyone’s seafood dishes were delicious and fresh. My only issue was that the restaurant lost our Open Table reservation, which was inconvenient, but they did find us a table a brief wait.
Excellent place and food. But I didn't know when inside the Hilton Hotel, not view and I need to ask the Valet where the restaurant was
Decided to try this restaurant for RW despite some less than stellar reviews. My bad. Sat in the great little outdoor dining area and had a friendly server. Ordered some drinks which took a little while. Server noted the bar was a little backed up. Ok. Drinks and first course were pretty good. However the wait for our main course was exceedingly long. Parties arriving 40 min after us were finishing. The server came over after quite a while and said she checked with the kitchen which was followed by another long wait until we heard anything. Eventually at about one hour and 40 minutes after initially being seated I asked to cancel the order. It seemed from the server that there were some issues in the kitchen, and it was not because that the restaurant was very busy because it was very empty. Not a very good impression at all especially during restaurant week when the idea is to attract new local business.
Came here for SDRW. Ridiculously good value for your money.
The food was probably better than anything I have tasted at this price point, considering the portion.
The only thing was that the restaurant was basically open to the hotel lobby, so you get more of a bar vibe.
Your mileage might vary outside of SDRW week though.
Hotel Restaurant Exceeds Expectations!
My friend and I both work around the area and decided to grab a quick bite to eat. Since it was a Friday we knew the Del Mar/La Jolla area might be a little congested and wanted to find a simple spot to dine before calling it a night. Hiltons have never disappointed in the past so we decided on a Hotel restaurant that was situated at a great location right next to the Del Mar Fairgrounds.
Both of us can agree that dining at Coastal Kitchen can be equated to finding a hidden gem. We were greeted immediately by Adam and sat outside where the live music was playing.
Suemi was our server and was great! She was not only knowledgeable of the menu but also very attentive and personable.
They were having their new dinner launch with the new Executive Chef Alex Emery. We ordered the oven roasted bone marrow and salmon belly tartare to start. The bone marrow on the cranberry bread was melt in your mouth perfection and the tartare was light and satisfying.
My friend ordered the play on the animal style burger which he loved.
I got the braised bone in short rib that was (surprise!) amazing. The portions were great for the price.
Besides the taste, the presentation of each plate was impressive. It is the little things that count and you can definitely see the dedicated time that was placed on each dish. It was much appreciated.
The ambiance and staff turned up the volume to our intended casual Friday night. We will definitely return to this new found treasure. Thank you, Coastal Kitchen! Cheers!
We were a large party and the waiter was very attentive and patient. The food was good and the portion sizes were big. The outdoor patio is really nice to go have dinner and a drink. The are couches and firepits that are great to go with a group of friends and hang out.
Best way to celebrate Mother’s Day!! Not crowded AT ALL. Loved it. Wonderful experience! The staff made us feel so special, they even catered to my son who has a bunch of allergies. They even had a flower bar where the kids can build a bouquet for their moms- so so sweet!! Really great place!
We went for Easter Buffet Brunch and it was with every penny! Prime rib was perfect, shrimp was plump and fresh.; there was not a bad dish in the bunch.
Love the elegant yet comfortable atmosphere, the staff is always helpful and friendly. The chef makes incredible dishes that bring us back time and time again.
Highly recommend if they have a Mother’s Day brunch or any time of the week. CoastalKITCHEN will not disappoint.
Disappointing compared to past experiences. 18percent added gratuity for a party of 7 at a self serve buffet seemed inappropriate espaecailly with the poor service we received.
It was a nice experience, but the kale Caesar salad didn’t have kale, only romaine lettuce.
We were there for restaurant week. The Chinese lettuce tacos, tomato soup, and pumpkin soup were very tasteful and appealing visually. The entrees were also very good- good size portion for the chicken and ribeye but the fish was a bit small. The Tajin sauce for the chicken was very flavorful but the mash potatoes could have been warmer.
The bread pudding was savory while the chocolate cake was just ok. In general it was a very good meal
This was my first time coming to CostalKITCHEN and I will not return. I was there for an event that started at 7pm. I had reservations at 4:30 thinking that would give us plenty of time to eat and have a couple glasses of wine. We sat for at least 15 min before we even saw the waiter, then another 15 min waiting for the wine. I saw we were getting pressed for time since the doors open at 6pm to be seated, and ordered the Butternut squash soup, which was wonderful. It took a total of 45 min to get a bowl of soup!!! and I was never offered a 2nd glass of wine!!! The manager finally came over to our table and said how sorry he was and paid for our small meal. Terrible experience!!!
The food was not worth the wait. We had the hamburger and steak. The steak was ok but the rest of the meal we did not eat. Would not recommend at all.
Food was delivered after a very long wait. One of the tacos from each person’s 2-taco order plate showed up, with the other taco for each person coming 15 minutes later after we had to ask for the rest of our food. This caused three people in our party to cancel the missing part of their dinner (2nd taco). Additionally, the food was incorrectly charged and people were billed for each other’s food/drinks. Supposedly, there was only one waiter taking orders from all the tables, yet there were other employees delivering the food and several employees standing around talking and staring out the back windows. It was an incredibly disorganized dinner service. I question whether I’d ever eat there again.
The food was really good however it is a little pricey for the location. It is in a Hilton however they are trying to cater to people that are in the area looking for a good place to eat. the price reflects more of a "hotel restaurant" where you expect to pay more but if they want to bring in non-hotel staying customer who have a lot of options with respect to other restaurants they will need to decrease their prices just a bit.
Made reservations for their Thanksgiving dinner and was very disappointed. The concept of the food menu was great but the execution was poor. The food lacked basic seasoning and tasted bland. Definitely wasn’t worth the prefix price.
We were at the restaurant for the Thanksgiving buffet and found the food ok but not the quality we expected. The vegetables were uncooked and difficult to chew. The meat was ok but not the best quality. The pie crusts seemed uncooked. Overall the buffet was ok but not great.
We were on vacation in the San Diego area and costalKitchen was recommended to us for Thankgiving dining. We were not disappointed, the food selection and service was beyond our expectations.
Avoid if you want to good food. The place was empty, yet they seemed to have trouble staying on top of the 2 tables that had customers. Service was friendly but slow. The food is awful. From beginning to end. The flatbread was on inedible bread. Clearly a pre-cooked base that should never have been served. The calamari was the worst I have ever had. The salads were OK, I suppose. The olives small plate was strange... A huge bowl of olives. Edible, but nothing special. The Hibachi Salmon... was also edible. But dry. Picture having dinner in the lobby of a mid-range hotel. That's Coastal Kitchen.
Great place very calm. Sat outside by the fire pit
Amazing service. Good selection for brunch.
However, desserts were not up to expectations. Cakes were very vanilla.
This place has a great vibe- great food, clean lines, nice patio and d a welcoming atmosphere. Will put it in our rootation
Last visit was disappointing; kid's food had hair in it; my salmon was way to dry -- think part of the tail and overcooked. Wine/drinks were slow to arrive... Server was inattentive and host was not friendly.
Short rib dish was amazing
Great ambiance, food drink and service. Loved the key lime pie.
My salmon was perfect!
One of the worst meals I’ve ever had. Burger was over cooked - twice. Anemic lettuce and tomato. Mushy pickle. The server couldn’t have been nicer though. He should be working at a much better place. Seriously, Burger King would be an upgrade to the food.
We came here to check out the restaurant as an option for a rehearsal dinner and we were not disappointed. They told us they had recently renovated in the last year and it was done very well. Particularly the patio area is gorgeous; with it poolside and multiple fire pits, it creates a wonderful outdoor atmosphere. We sat at the indoor bar and watched sports and spoke with our bartender and the bar manager, Dan. They were both very friendly and knowledgeable about their menu. They said the menu choices can be seasonal on half the items available, which was great to hear for variety and locally fresh. After that night, we were pretty set on hosting our rehearsal dinner here. Can't wait to go back.
Terrible. Slow food. Average food. Kids everywhere.
Great New Years Eve dining experience! Great singer and fabulous menu! Our waitress was a doll!
Great service, good choices on menu, accommodating staff, beautiful outdoor seating(heated), tasty food and nice neighborhood.
Very nice place to visit after spending time at the Del Mar fairgrounds.
Basic hotel restaurant with relatively pricey food. Food was fine and service was good. No atmosphere.
What a hidden gem inside of the San Diego Delmar Hilton I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone who has a hunger for great food
Brunch with parents who were in town! Great service and food! Our server, Colin, was knowledgeable, made great suggestions and very friendly! The food was delicious and very high quality ingredients. The parents were impressed and enjoyed themselves!
They were able to seat a table of 8 on pretty short notice at their busy time during a Friday night. This is inside the Hilton right by the racetrack. It worked out perfectly as the food was decent, enjoyable live music and our server was outstanding. We had a great outdoor table and it was very comfortable and since you were sitting in the courtyard, there were games and other things for kids to enjoy as well.
