Coastal Provisions Ratings and Reviews
The food was very good and beautifully presented. However, the restaurant was half empty, yet it took over an hour to get our food. There were no apologies from our server or no updates as to why the delay. They were clearly understaffed for the evening. We were hoping it was a one-time thing and returned the next morning for breakfast. Breakfast again took almost an hour to be served and we were all served at different times. It was quite a disappointment given the prices.
Many things went wrong.
1) table wasn't ready even though we turned up early in the evening. Had to wait 5 min to sit down
2) took a long time to get served
3) ordered drinks and took a long time to arrive
4) starters were too big
5) the chop for main course was too fatty and too thick
6) fries were undercooked
7) veg was bland
8) ordered digestives and took server a few times to take the order correctly
9) when we asked for the bill server didn't take our name correctly
10) when the bill arrived it was at the same price you would pay for a restaurant that served good food with good service. Given what we experienced it was very over priced
We stayed at the Wild Dunes Resort and, as a result, ate at this on-site restaurant. The atmosphere and convenience factor is great. It is by the adults only pool, so great for poolside bites and drinks. The food was just okay though and the service wasn't very attentive, even though it's priced like a 5-star restaurant.
I wanted to like this restaurant and ate there two nights in a row, but the food was just not good. The first night the restaurant was fairly empty and our food came out luke warm. The second night I had to send the food back because it was very overlooked. It was also Luke warm.
The food at Coastal Provisions is not very good, and downright bad when you consider the upscale price point. Our waitress was pleasant. My kids ordered Mac n Cheese as an app, which was fine. We got some drinks, ordered, and then waited an hour for our meal to arrive. There were 2 parties in the restaurant (on a Friday night which should have been a sign) unclear what the delay was. My daughters both got steaks which were ok, although average cut quality, bland and at $49 a piece pretty disappointing. My wife and I ordered the Carolina Shrimp. I think there was hamburger meat in the dirty rice, the shrimp were small, again underwhelming. I would save your $ and skip this place. Probably good for cocktails, as the bar was packed.
I and 200 of my closest friends were at Wild Dunes for a conference. Everyone I spoke to shared the same comment. The event staff are fantastic. The rest of the grounds' staff provided some of the worst service we'd ever experienced. An associate and I waited 2 hours for our dinner the first night we arrived. A dinner that was not what I had ordered. The food was just ok. The great news is that it was over-priced. Lucky me!
Cozy fireside seating in a living-room like dining area, charming. Outstanding wait staff, very attentive, not obtrusive. Started the evening with heirloom tomatoes with blue cheese crumbles, we were also served bread with seasoned butter. For the entrees, husband had the swordfish, outstanding! I am vegetarian and enjoyed two sides, broccoli and the squash casserole. Our cocktails were delicious and thoughtfully prepared, I'd recommend the 'Constant Gardner' husband had the 'Lion's mane' and for dessert we split the waiter recommended bourbon pecan pie. Can't wait until our next visit!
We visited The Boardwalk Inn off season and the restaurant is in the lobby. We ate dinner Friday night when we arrived and the experience was excellent. Our waiter was very attentive and helpful with menu selections. The fish was fresh and delicious and the presentation was outstanding making the dishes visually appealing. They had the fireplace going which made it cozy and romantic. Best meal we had all weekend.
The gate agent was rude, arrogant and condescending. Josh, the valet, was charming and wonderful and tried very hard to make us feel welcome. The service was slow and the food was adequate. For the price charged, the experience should have been much more welcoming and filled with southern charm--it was not.
We live in the area and have been going to this hotel for a staycation for the past 4 years. We have always been disappointed in the food and the restaurant until this year. I knew something had changed the minute we received our crab hushpuppies. I didn't want to say anything prematurely so I waited for our dinner. It was incredible and the she crab soup was some of the best we have tasted. The shrimp and grits were delicious. Breakfast the next morning was another delight and I had to ask what had changed. Bravo to the new Chef! Please don't leave and we will see you next time!!
We had Tom as our waiter- he was very knowledgeable about the wine selections and suggested a fabulous little Pinot Noir which went exceedingly well with our steaks. The steaks - we both had a 6 oz fillet- were probably the best we have ever eaten. They were cooked perfectly-medium. The sides we had were also worth a mention, roasted baby turnips and scalloped potatoes. The service was great and would certainly have no hesitation about going back. Overall a wonderful experience.
Simply put: don’t go! The 4 of us had already agreed we wouldn’t return after very slow bar service; mostly boring, limited food offerings with unjustified prices (even on the bar menu - $16 for a burger and fries??), and so few printed menus that we had to share one per couple in a half-empty restaurant. Then the server spilled ketchup on my sleeve when picking up someone else’s plate and instead of an apology he said “Oops how did that ketchup jump off onto the table?” No offer to pay for cleaning or comp part of my meal, even after I said it was a brand new shirt he’d just stained. Really??
Coastal Provisions will have to rely on the IOP resort trade because any local who goes there will not go back. There are far too many better options to even consider putting up with the poor service and lackluster food.
We went for restaurant week and the food was outstanding. I had the calamari for my appetizer and it was amazing but the smoked shrimp my fiance had were absolutely out of this world! We both had the surf and turf which consisted of pork belly and scallops. The scallops were perfect and the right amount of crust and the pork belly was perfectly tender.
I liked this restaurant's look. It was upbeat, clean and comfortable. Our service was excellent! The problem I had was that the food preparation didn't live up to the facility and server group. I thought at first it was just that it was overpriced (which it definitely is but I don't hold that against them since they can get away with it due to their location). And I don't think it was the quality of food, I just think the guys in the kitchen are preparing uninspired, bland dishes that taste more like the hotel restaurant it is. We went to Charleston the next day and spent 4 nights eating at more creative and much tastier restaurants for mush less than Coastal Provisions. This is a 4 star restaurant on the Isle of Palms I guess, but I doubt it would survive in Charleston.
My boyfriend stated that he had the best steak that he has ever had in his life. He had the 22oz dry aged steak and it was delicious. The provisional mules topped off the meal with excellence.
Thank you to everyone who made our weekend dining special.

It is great to have a good restaurant on this side of the Ravenel, valet parking, outdoor atmosphere in good weather, very creative presentation of food with ample servings, interesting choices on the menu with small plates and creative sides. I look forward to going back for another interesting combination of tastes and beautiful presentations.
