Coast Kitchen at the Montauk Yacht Club Ratings and Reviews
I have to say that I have been to this restaurant (Montauk Yacht Club) several times before and have had some wonderful experiences; HOWEVER this time on Saturday Oct 7, 2017, was AWFUL! We went on Saturday, October 7th, 2017. There was no hostess to greet anyone, and our party (4 for a 50th bday), plus other parties were waiting not knowing what to do. We finally got seated 10 minutes later (with a reservation) , and though the food was OK, the experience overall was atrocious. They had a wedding rehearsal party going on AND a wedding going on. No one in the dining room knew what they were doing. We watched so many dinners being passed to other tables (and our own) where folks had already eaten. Even a simple seltzer with lime did not come out right. The food was mediocre at best. The service and attention was awful. I would not go to this establishment again.
we were staying at the montauk yacht club (which was lovely!!) for a mini birthday getaway & decided to have our dinner at coast kitchen. the hostess was pleasant and attentive. our waitress erika was extremely sweet - very attentive, pleasant and accommodating!! there were only about 5 tables occupied, which would have provided for a nice quiet evening had it not been for one table that had an annoying, very vocal, child, who was not corrected (not the restaurant's fault of course). i ordered the seared tuna appetizer and special salmon entree w/ vegetables and i opted for a baked potato rather than the mashed. the seared tuna was very good and presented nicely, however, i was quite underwhelmed with my entree dish. unfortunately the kitchen did not have the baked potato that evening (??), therefore they substituted "roasted". the potatoes were tiny chopped pieces that were overcooked and hard. the salmon's texture was soft/mushy & it lacked any and all seasoning, leaving it very bland. my husband's caesar salad was nice, however, his new york strip steak entree was also far from exceptional. it was not tender and was very chewy. we were both very disappointed in our entrees. erika did surprise us with a birthday key lime & sorbet; candle included :-) !! once again she was such a nice girl, which helped with the fact that the entrees were so unimpressive. overall, the montauk yacht club was a wonderful place to stay and the entire staff, throughout, was very pleasant and extremely attentive! we loved our visit! oh, and breakfast room service the next morning was delicious !!!!
Upon arriving we had to look around for a hostess to seat us. After a few minutes someone who had been sitting at the bar came up to us and started to seat us, but she wasn't the hostess; finally the hostess showed up. The waitress was excellent, but the other service was none existent. The food took way too long to serve. The food was very good, both of us had the sea bass and split tuna tartar as an appetizer. There was a large table and that caused the noise level to be unbearable (contrary to the OpenTable concept of being "energetic")
Through their site and OpenTable, it said the restaurant was open and was taking in reservations. After driving out to Montauk for the day / night, we arrived at the restaurant and everything was closed. If they are not open, Open Table should take them off the site and the Club should have the decency to let Open Table know that their restaurant was closed. It is a seasonal spot, Montauk, but if you are advertising you are open for a Holiday, then you should be open
It is difficult to find a restaurant open for dinner this time of year in Montauk, but that is still not a great reason to go here. The menu consisted of four entrees, only one being seafood, and this was blackened SALMON...in Montauk, seriously? My NY Strip was small and the sauce that was served on the side came in a plastic takeout container...for $36 an actual ramekin is necessary. The high point of the meal was the scallop appetizer, but overall mediocre and over priced.
While you can't beat the views, we simply couldn't eat our meals. The lobster bisque was incredibly salty (and without a piece of lobster in sight) and my filet mignon was dry and salty, too. (My friend also found her chicken inedible.) Not sure if this had anything to do with our late-September (off season?) visit, but at almost $300 for dinner for two (with two cocktails per person), I really don't care.
Reservations were made and the maitre d' seemed to have us on the list but he disappeared for a few minutes to ready our table. The dining room was separated from the foyer by a drape or sheet hanging down. The staff was pleasant but the time between visits seemed quite extended while not busy. It seemed like an extremely long wait between courses yet the waitress was in a hurry to remove the bread basket from the table. Did somebody need the basket, or the rest of the bread? There was no hurry for our table as we could have fit two more courses between the cappuccino glass being empty and the arrival of the check. As for the food, the portions were appropriate for the setting. Remember, this is not a steakhouse. We chose a salmon and a duck dish. We both agreed the salmon was ok, but certainly would not recommend unless you had a need for salmon. We would prefer to try another dish before getting salmon there again. As for the duck, it tasted better than I expected after the salmon experience. I would recommend this if you find yourself here. We were pleasantly surprised when the check arrived, expected about 20-30% higher bill. So, the cost was definitely fair. This setting is not a place I would go regularly but I would not complain if it were the only restaurant with an available table. I was satisfied, just not impressed. I do need to admit that I have a restaurant background so I may be more critical regarding service attention. Regarding the question about recommending to a friend, I just know that this will not match the preferences of my friends. No bad experience to keep me away but I will try others before feeling I need to go back.
The food was exquisite and the service was great, but there were only two other diners. It was very, very quiet. We ate at 8 PM on a Friday, so there should have been more people there, but there just weren't. That is the only reason this place didn't score five stars from me.
What made the whole experience a true delight was that a couple sitting next to us was celebrating their five-year anniversary, and to celebrate one of the servers sang a beautiful and completely unaccompanied rendition of Christina Perri's "A Thousand Years" to them. It was truly impressive and absolutely adorable.
Lovely setting, however, the food did not live up to the previous reviews and ratings. We both got steak (filet and rib eye) and my filet was especially tough. Cooked properly to medium-rare, but extremely chewy. Sides of scalloped potatoes and veggies were rather run of the mill. Oysters for appetizer came with chopped onion sprinkled on top, which was odd and left me picking the onion off. Lemon served with the oysters were in round thin slices, making them hard to squeeze. Sorry to say we will not return.
My sister and I went out to Montauk for an early Mother's Day weekend. Gulf Coast Kitchen was our nice evening out when we left the kids with a babysitter. The dining room is elegant without being over the top and the servers are incredibly accommodating, We enjoyed dinner and a bottle of champagne followed by desert and after dinner coffees on the outdoor patio overlooking the harbour, complete with a roaring fire and faux fur blankets. It's a gem of a place but I think you only get that special ambiance in the pre-season when it's not overcrowded with the summer masses.
We really enjoyed our dinner here at the Gulf Coast Kitchen. We stayed on site and so we naturally had to try dinner again. My son had the pork ossobuco, which he pronounced delicious, and I have the mussels special that was an appetizer, as my entrée. Both were very, very good. Well-balanced flavors.
My son also ordered the clam chowder and he said it was terrific. We also scarfed down all the bread in the breadbasket which came out all hot and buttery.
I would definitely recommend this spot for the food, as well as for the ambience.
We went here on the recommendation of a Hamptons article that listed this place in the Top 10 places to eat in Montauk. We were a little wary of heading out to a 'club' let alone a 'yacht club' but trusted the article (as other places listed were indeed yummy). The main downside was the ambience - it felt like we had traveled back in time 30 years to the 'Love Boat'. Another in our party likened it to 'being at a wedding'. The food itself was ok, even good, but not a fun or interesting place to eat. Needs to modernize! Won't go back - so many other more interesting places to eat.
Portate senza senso, dai sapori a volte imbarazzanti. Un vero disastro. E la quantità "da camionisti", non riscatta certo una pessima qualità. Ripartire da zero è il minimo.
The reservation was not honored. They tried to seat me in the banquet room and give us a table for 8 for the 4 of us. After a horrible start to the night and insisting on a table in the dinning room, the main courses were good. The appetizers were not good. They were busy and service was lacking. It was a very good and exciting atmosphere. I hate to start with an argument. They even called me to confirm I was going to be there and I was there on time.
I like the place, but it needs improvement.
I looked forward to dining at the Montauck Yacht Club with my 3 adult children but was disappointed by the lack of creativity in the menu. We have eaten at many other Montauck restaurants and this one seemed dated and tired. I ended up with a soup and salad because I could not find anything that I really wanted to try on the menu. The view was lovely and we got some great pictures of the harbor. I would not go again.
One reason of significance was that the waiter & bartender did not ask prior to using Grey Goose for a cocktail; hence I was not presented choice re: possible brands. Also Service was fine but not top knotch as the table was not properly cleaned after dinner & before dessert. Finally, I had listed the special occasion (birthday) on my reservation but neither hostess nor waiter followed up. Still, we would come again.
The restauraunt is nice and service was good. But the food was terriable.Salad was salty, why i have no idea.Filet was dry and not cooked med rare. The stuffed flounder was tasteless and bland.Mash potatoes were like soup. This was one of worst experiances i had at a resaturaunt in my life.If you cant find a good fish dinner in montauk ,than were?
