Coast 236 Restaurant & Bar
Nice addition to Saugatuck restaurant scene. Atmosphere and service were great. Some of the food was great as well - carrot ginger soup, mussels special, and pumpkin cheesecake were all delicious. My husband said pork chop was just fair.
We had wonderful server, Pablo. We had such interesting cocktails and wine. A very special way to celebrate the end of our vacation.
Pretty restaurant with a wonderful menu. Everything we had was delicious. The peanut butter cup with vanilla bean gelato was amazing. So amazing that we came back the next night just for dessert. The staff is amazing as well. Thanks Rob and Mindy! We'll be back on our next visit to Saugatuck.
Our favorite in Saugatuck. Warm and friendly staff, great bar, excellent food.
from our server to every course, I have nothing more to say other than 5-Star all the way !
Excellent service and food, a most enjoyable evening!
Coast 236 is a nice addition to Saugatuck dining, replacing the Hercules that used to be in the same location. The décor is lighter, more "airy", and overall welcoming. Miss some of the salads and entrees that used to be on the Hercules menu, but it is a new restaurant and Mindy, the new owner, is continuing to refine the menu. Will definitely go back the next time we are in town.
We always enjoy this restaurant. The staff is friendly, the food and drinks are excellent, they have various options including gluten free. And the price point is very reasonable. We’re frequent diners here.
We absolutely love this place. The food is so innovative and delicious, with a menu that reflects the season and what’s fresh locally, and the presentation is fantastic as well. We were really impressed by the wine list, and the staff is wonderful. A favorite, to be sure.
I had an amazing experience.
One of the worst dining experiences i can remember. We were seated about 5 minutes after our reservation time then it went down hill from there. After 10 minutes at our table the waiter finally acknowledged our presence and told us he would be right back. He did return in a few minutes to take a drink order. When the drinks arrived my wife had ordered a vodka and soda with a lime. They brought a lemon. The waiter insisted it was a yellow lime. He finally took the drink back and brought a new drink with a GREEN lime. It only gets better. We wait another 10 minutes and he takes our salad and gazpacho order. That takes about 10 minutes. The waiter finally stops by after we complete the first course to ask about entrees. They were out of the grouper as well as other items so we ordered the beef tenderloin. Now the clock starts ticking. After 20 minutes and no sign of food or the waiter I asked the table behind us if the service was always this poor. They said not normally but this was the worst. They had been there 1 1/2 hours before their meals arrived. Well the clock is still ticking and the manager stops by after being prompted by the table behind us. He tells us he will get right on making sure our meal is on its way. Another 5 minutes go by and we start noticing tables that were seated 15-20 minutes after being served their entrees. I looked at my wife and said “if our meals are not here in 5 minutes we walk”. You can probably guess - we walked and will never return. A great way to ruin a special evening trying to celebrate my wife’s birthday.
We wanted to love this new venue in Saugatuck and will ultimately give it another try next time we are in town because we want to continue to support business in this quaint little town. However, we were incredibly disappointed with the service. We had a reservation yet had to wait nearly 30 minutes at which point we were led to a table that had been available the entire wait. We were randomly waited on by at least 4 different people throughout the night with a complete lack of communication between them. We had to ask for our order to be taken and later water refills...then had to go in search of one meal that was not delivered with the rest. At that point, it became clear that it was never ordered nor apparently written down anywhere as we had to re-order it. I tried to order a second drink a couple times and the waiter simply zipped away and never returned. They had a wedding party at the restaurant that night and it seems they are just not staffed with the proper experience and resources to manage the level of business they evening. I do hope this is not typical and we have a different experience next time.
We waited over an hour for food. During that time we were not offered any bread or other options. The waiter was not friendly. At that price point we would have expected better service.
The food was very good, however the kitchen and bar were very slow. We ended up canceling our desserts, as our waiter could not say how long it would take for the gelato we had ordered. Also, it took quite a long time for our wine and cocktails from the bar before dinner. We had the Trout, Walleye, and the Grouper, and all were delicious and presented nicely.
Other than the fact that fish bones were not trimmed in the trout and left my husband with a mouthful of food he had to spit out - the food was good especially the scallops, although the portion size of the hash was way too small. Our bigger problem was the poor service because our waitress simply ignored us and barely made eye contact, when passing through to help other tables. It was disappointing to have to waive her down in order to get her attention. On the plus side - the restaurant is new, fresh and beautiful I just wished the service and attention to detail on the food matched.
We had a delightful dining experience. The food was excellent, as was the service!
It’s a great place for food and service!!
Everyone is very friendly and it’s a warm inviting place to be
Food quality and service is highly inconsistent. Outdoor heaters were requested and we were told they were "out of order". Entrees were cold and not well prepared. Regretfully will not be back for a good long while in hopes that Coast 236 can improve. Too bad as they offer very fine dining experience 1 out of 5 times we visit. In search of another "go to" for 2019 shoulder season and into 2020.
Eat there at least twice a month and take and recommend to all our friends.
We dined at Coast 236 on Friday, 9/6. Two of us has the Bucatini Lobster pasta. This was easily one of the finest pasta dishes I have had outside of Italy. Truly spectacular! Apps were wonderful as well. I had a wonderful Zin @ $10 a glass that was a great value for such a high-caliber wine. Service by Jessica was also a standout. She was so knowledgeable, but also had great energy and was just a great person. The back dining room can get quite loud (one of my only peeves about this restaurant), but we enjoyed our quieter location up-front at 'table #1.' Chef Mindy really out-did herself!
Recommended by a friend. Went on a Thursday evening. Nice table on the patio. Excellent live music. Service and food were great. Look forward to going again
The food was mediocre, it was expensive. There are better selections in town and better value. We eat out often so it’s good to try new restaurants. Probably won’t return.
Enjoyable dinner with satisfying menu in a congenial environment. Coast is a Saugatuck favorite!
Everyone in our party of four had a different entree. Each was extremely pleased. Server Richard was both efficient and entertaining. Definitely a high spot of Saugatuck/Douglas dining
This was an amazing experience!!! The owner greeted us at the door as well as thanked us as we were leaving! Our server was so warm, friendly, and so personable she felt like a friend! The food is a whole other reason to come to Coast 236!! The Bucatini was out of this world as well as everyone at the table! I recommend that everyone who visits Saugatuck must go!
dinner with out of town guests who live in Manhattan - they were impressed with the quality of the food and the amazing service with James as our waiter! They are still talking about the scallops and the kale salad! thank you once again for a wonderful evening!
We had 6:45 reservations and did not get our dinner until after 8:45. Richard was our server and he did apologize but that’s still inexcusable. Why have a reservation?
Place is beautiful. Food great. Only issue was really slow service. Kitchen was backed up. We had theatre tickets and had to leave before dessert. Our server offered to buy us dessert after show. Class act! Definitely will go again.
Wonderful atmosphere with a more "upscale" feel for Saugutuck. Our waiter, Richard, was amazing! One of the best servers I've EVER had, anywhere. He made excellent suggestions for our entrees, was personable and overall made our dinner a memeorable dining event. We will definitely go back...and request Richard again. The food was excellent and paired with the perfect wine. We loved this restaurant!
Great service and really enjoyed the outdoor dining area. Menu selections were varied and portions were perfect.
We had our wedding reception here. The food was fabulous. Great service. The ambiance was certainly wonderful. We can't wait to go back for our first anniversary.
We dined outside on the patio. It was quiet, good service and great food.
Even though we had reservations, we had to wait for them to set up our table. When we were seated, they didn’t even give us a menu. We had to ask twice for menus. The food was mixed-some items were excellent while other items were less than inspiring. Additionally, several tables who were seated well after us, were served well before us.
Restaurant is beautiful, took about 20 minutes to get our drinks. Server was polite.
Food was fine.
Everything was great ex
We waited 1.5 hrs and still no food. Our waiter told us the kitchen “forgot”. Really? Why did he not find out why we were waiting so long? Nothing was done about this. He then never returned to see if the food we eventually got was okay. It was not. The green beans were basically raw with some warmth. People seated an hour after us were eating and still no food. I told him the manager should do something to address this and he ignored us. The couple next to us, same waiter, also didn’t get their food for over an hour and they had to keep asking for water or other things. True it was a Saturday evening but the place had many empty tables. No excuse for this kind of treatment and at a cost of over $100 for 2 people. Very unhappy.
My wife and I were frequent patrons of the previous establishment at this location. I am sorry to say that the new restaurant has completely destroyed a lovely venue for a civilized dining experience and replaced it with an unpleasant tourist trap. To start, the warm décor has been replaced with very cold décor. The main dining room has the worst acoustics. It is like eating in a cafeteria. I was unable to speak to the person sitting next to me. I am assuming the kitchen has not changed, while they have dramatically increased their seating capacity. Our waitress repeated threw them under the bus during our diner. The cocktails sat on the bar for sometime and were served at room temperature. Our salads came out before the appetizers and when the appetizers arrived only 2 of 3 were served. The third appetizer arrived with our main course. I tried to send it back but was told do not worry about it you are not paying for it. In all the experience was awful and a great disappointment.
Mussels and scallops and beet tower salad were wonderful, walleye and green beans undercooked. Otherwise, a delightful addition to Saugatuck's dining scene.
Love the staff and food. Always a nice time.
We had a reservation but had to wait for a table or take a table near a large and loud group. It was nice that we were offered a choice. Service was friendly but on the slow side and somewhat inattentive once the food was served. We ordered the scallops and the walleye and both were cooked and presented beautifully. The cauliflower/potato/bacon hash that was served with the scallops was cold and not very good. The risotto that came with the walleye was piping hot and tasty. Asparagus accompanied both dishes and was good but a bit of a disappointment since a lot of fresh vegetable options would be available this time of year. For dessert we enjoyed their version of a Reese's peanut butter cup which was delicious. Overall a nice experience with good food but lacking the fine touches that would make it an exceptional dinner.
