Club Café Ratings and Reviews
The food was good. This was a valentines dinner, I am happy it was not a date because the trivia was going on and it was anoying. Calamiri was excellent. My burger was good. My friend thought the fish batter was doughy. Drinks were good. Sangria needs some improvement.
Had Lunch with the purpose to catch up with some friends. Basic comfort food done well. Reasonably priced. One of my go to places before going to the Lyric Theater. The food has always been good there and the waiter, who was taken care of us many times, is fabulous.
There were four of us for New Years Day brunch. The hostess was very friendly and offered us a couple of choices for seating.
Our waiter Nicholas was great and very charming.
The only thing I would suggest is to bring the choices up a few notches. We have been to Club Café for brunch several times recently. One of thing I notice is that the selections are often similar. I always look for traditional brunch items, but the other lunch type selections are not as good.
Could I suggest trying the model I've seen lately in both Boston and New York? There are buffet items out as usual, but the actual "entre" is ala carte. Best of both worlds!
After finding Club Cafe last year when trying to find a Thanksgiving buffet/dinner on short notice, we had a great time and decided to go there again this year. This time it was my dad, my gf, and myself. The selection of food was a nice variety to suit all tastes, it was very tasty, and I went back for seconds. And maybe thirds. Service was friendly and fairly attentive. One nice touch was the live pianist. I suspect we will head neck again next year.
I went for Thanksgiving dinner. I really like the fact that Club Cafe is giving back to the community in the form of a percentage of my dinner went to the Living Center.
The food was good. I especially liked the roasted turnips.
I have been going there for years and this year I decided to go out for Thanksgiving and saw their generous spirit and thought why not?
Great dining experience at my favorite place for food and entertainment.
Every year I made it my tradition to celebrate my birthday with my wife and friends. I had 2 orders of muscles and cocktail shrimp with several Strong pomegranate Martinis to top it off.
I was definitely impressed with the tasty muscles with the succulent juice that adorns it. Don't let it go to waste when you can soak it up with the warm bread that comes with it.
After all that I had to dance it off to finish the night.
Looking forward to next year..
I frequently visit this restaurant for dinner, drinks, and dancing. My first visits were great. The service was fast and friendly, the food and drinks were new and tasty. The last handful of visits over the past few months have gone severely downhill. My most recent visit the service was terrible. It took over 10 minutes for our server to bring two bottled beers. We ordered appetizers shortly after arriving and legitimately did not receive them for 40 minutes. I assume the waiter forgot to ring them in because after I asked about them it took an additional 15-20 minutes to get them. We didn't order chicken on our nachos (a $4 upcharge) but they came with chicken and we had a vegetarian at the table. We didn't say anything because we had already waited so long and were very hungry. Our entrees came out about 10 minutes later, but since I could see into the kitchen from the table and know the restaurant industry I saw our dishes sitting in the window prior to getting the appetizers. I knew they were ours because I saw our server move them there and then later grab those same plates and bring them to our table. The food was overall good, except for that there was black plastic in my sandwich. I stopped eating after I pulled the pieces out of my mouth.
We were at the restaurant for the finale of Rupaul's Drag Race and it was loud and busy, which we expected. Unfortunately after the very unappetizing talk between the hostesses they performed numbers which were so loud that people around me and myself we plugging our ears. We would have left as soon as possible but our server was too busy talking and hanging with his friends nearby. We waited nearly a half an hour to pay and leave. Granted that this is one of the few gay establishments in Boston I will return, but it will likely only be for drinks at the bar and dancing. So disappointing since I typically love this place!
Host was stuck up. Waiter came and took drink order for "another waiter Chris" but he never came. The first waiter eventually came back and took our order. We reported we were trying to make a show. He was very good at getting us out on time. 20% discount was not offered as advertised on website.
Sat in the Nepolian Room where the live entertainment was happening. The room was staffed with one individual covering nine tables. Food was good and live music excellent.
The main room was exceptionally noise. Even with the door and 80 wall the noise was heard.
The Filet Mignon is always spot on here! Love our servers especially Maureen! This place is more than a restaurant, it's a part of history. Can not be experienced fully in just one visit. The owner "Jim" is a gracious hands on host. Definitely recommend to friends and people visiting the city!
I almost don't want to write this, as this is the only real piano bar left in Boston and the venue is too small to get lots of new groupies. But it's all that the West Village haunts of NYC used to be -- friendly and fun, with everyone knowledgeable about Broadway, and not having to just listen to boring karoake renditions of pop music. If you're a live theater fan, you should check it out.
The foodie sandwiches and entrees are appealingly described but haphazardly implemented. For example, the slaw with my fish sandwich was heaped on the bun. If it was funky, dry slaw of some sort, that might be okay. But it was the usual the anodyne mayonnaisey stuff, resulting only in a soggy sandwich that fell apart after two bites. My wife had an "Italian grilled cheese" with prosciutto and basil. Of course, once you cook prosciutto, it becomes simply stringy bacon, and without enough basil, the sandwich was flavorless.
I'm a member of Club Cafe. Which mean you receive a 20% discount on food. The food is okay. The Cob Salad is huge and a star on the menu. The cocktail list is huge and delicious but a bit over priced but most Boston and Boston area cocktails are. The bingo on Mondays is a good time. Especially when Ru Paul's Drag Race starts up again. They play the episode and it's very fun. Pay attention and get there early and you can leave with a lot of prizes.
The weekend brunches have also gotten much much better.
