Cliff House Restaurant - Tacoma
The food and service were good, although pricey - what you're paying extra for is the best view in Tacoma, and a very nicely decorated space.
The food was good but it was cold on arrival. I got the salmon and it honestly lacked flavor. Pretty expensive, small portions. Service was alright, never got a refill on my water or asked if I wanted more to drink.
Phenomenal view, great guest service, food is buffett quality .. the bacon wrapped scallops and filet mignon was fantastic, the shrimp and sirloin not what I'd hope for...overall I'd do it again for the company and view.
Food was great! Prime rib was cooked well. Service was not good.
Belated Valentines dinner. Had limited menu that was kind of a let down. The staff was good but price a little high for the quality/quantity.
First off , the hostess was awkward and seemed confused . We had reservations for a window table but she proceeded to sit us In the corner of their back room until we mentioned our table by the window . There was a cold breeze throughout the whole restaurant enough to make you shiver . The menu was very small and expensive . $70 for a surf n turf , lobster was good but steak had no flavor . Could’ve gotten better at red lobster . 2 people and the tab was $200 . You’re basically paying for the view . Not to mention they add automatic 20% tip to every tab and ask for additional. The breeze was so strong it made the food cold in a few minuets . Overall the ambience was nice , but the food was not worth the money . If you’re looking to fine dine and spend at least $100 a person this is not the place .
My crab stuffed salmon was awesome, my girlfriend really liked her chicken
The restaurant was very good overall, the noise level was nice and quiet. The lighting was great. The food that we had was very good. it was are first time at this establishment as I took my wife there for a late valentine's dinner. The only real complaint we have is it was very cold in the restaurant and when we asked for the heat to be turned up it was but then got cold again. I guess if we venture back out there again we will dress a lot warmer.
Used to be one of our favorite places to dine, especially for special occasions. The food prices have increased, but the menu selections have significantly decreased. Plus now, they have added an automatic 20% "service charge" , which has taken the option out of the hands of the customer, and is a bit presumptuous of the service. The service quality has also diminished. We enjoy the rustic ambience of the Cliff House, but there is difference between rustic and needing an uplift. The vintage music was also a nice touch. The new music is being played takes away from the smooth, classy ambience. Would like to stay, but will probably look for other dining options.
Thank you for taking the time to review us. We do feature a select menu on holidays which we did for the Valentines weekend. This has the automatic gratuity added. We hope you can come dine with us again when you will have our full menu with many options to choose from. Thank you for your patronage.
Unfortunately they provided a Valentines Day menu and there was no entree on this I wanted to eat, so I had a salad and a tiny bowl of bisque. Both were very average. This got me thinking, when we put a restaurant in a spot with gorgeous views - as this one has - food becomes irrelevant. We waited over an hour for the main course “kitchen got behind with steaks” and the bill was over $200 (remember I had a salad and soup appetiser as an entree) and I walked away feeling very unsatisfied. The 20% auto add service charge was also a zinger as the extraordinarily slow service was irritating, notwithstanding the pleasant waitress.
The Cliff House offered a wonderful view of the bay. Was one of the nicest places I have been. Ordered the Lamb Shank. Looked good, smelled good and tasted good. The only problem was to much oil. As I would bite into the shank from the bone, the oil would run down my chin. This later made me sick.
We wanted to go for a Valentine’s Day lunch. We made a reservation for about 1:30. We were seated on time and grabbed a table with a nice view. However, the menu had a total of 4 options. It was fish and chips, roast beef sandwich, Caesar salad and maybe one more item. 4 options???
We left. Not for us.
We do run a limited menu on holidays, and are sorry you could not find an option you cared to try. While limited we do try to have an option for everyone from the Fish & Chips to French Dip to the lighter option of our salad and fresh chowder with sourdough bread. We hope you will be back to try our regular lunch menu as it has many selections to choose from.
Restaurant was as listed on the site. Food was amazing and the service was exceptional
Great view and good crew. We both had New York steaks and both were fairly fatty and fairly tough.
The restaurant is in a beautiful location with stunning views. The interior is beautiful and welcoming. The service was top notch.
Several of us were not thrilled about the food, which is very pricey. My scallops were overcooked (I love scallops - but they have to be tender - especially at that price tag). I think the lamb was reported to be so-so. I suspect the steaks are the best on the menu.
We will definitely go back, but probably just for drinks & appetizers.
The lemon-cello cake was amazing. The Crème brûlée came in a set of three. Everyone liked the traditional one, while the other two were just so-so.
Love the space and location.
Food was sub-par.
Price was way to high for the quality.
Will definitely go back.
Pricy. Everything was great. View was awesome
Excellent place. View is amazing. Ambiance and food were great. Service was friendly, but just a little slow.
It was great; lovely view, good service and excellent food!! What more could you ask for?
Loved the experience-perfect Birthday celebration spot.
I proposed to my wife at the Cliff House 58 years ago and we were there this time celebrating our 57th anniversary. It still is a very high-class establishment and the staff really makes you feel special. I was a little disappointed because I had my heart set on a good steak and a baked potato. The steak hit the mark but there was only one potato option and that was mashed. Now there were really good mashed potatoes but, you know it wasn't what I had my heart set on. Good Lord willin we'll be celebrating our 60th anniversary in a couple of years and we will probably reserve the banquet room downstairs and through a bash for our friends to help us celebrate.
The rib eye steak was cooked right but it didn't have any flavor. The oyster shooters were good. The steamers were good but only included 1 small piece of toast for 2 of us. We did get a serving of bread that wasn't cut all of the way though so we had to tear off pieces. The wife didn't like that there was no separate ladies room. I don't think I have to describe that. The service was very good. But aside from the view this was just an average dinner at a premium price
Food was mediocre at best. There was a large rock in the food. Was told it would be comped but it wasn’t. Just wasn’t a great experience. Wouldn’t go back.
Fantastic views of Commencement Bay. Natalie, our server, was terrific.
Hey folks: first, I love your place - ambiance, service, views, etc, but frankly the food needs improvement. I've only been there twice - once on Christmas Eve and once last week, and both times there were major faux-pas with food and drink. On Christmas Eve we sat at the bar and had a couple drinks and appetizers. The appetizers were great - small, but great. I'll forgive the poor service that evening (repeatedly asking for bread, getting attention of bartender etc.) because of the holiday. The cosmopolitan we ordered was terrible. Didn't even taste like a cosmo - not sure what it was!
Last week there were 4 of us. One just ordered a simple caesar salad with dressing on the side; two of us ordered chicken marsala after a cup of chowder. One ordered the drunken fig lamb chops after a small salad. So the chowder was OK but not great. Very little clam in it. But it was OK. The starter salad with whatever dressing was asked for was fine. Very standard. Nothing ambitious or interesting, but fine. The caesar salad was horrible. It had no cheese, a couple of croutons and shrimp had been added. The caesar dressing brought on the side was insipid, flavorless mayonnaise. No caesar zing, no anchovies, no tang, no garlic - no flavor at all. We all tried it and were aghast. She ended up ordering a balsamic. The two chicken marsalas were very bland. The presentation was great. Potatoes - great. Vegetables - great. The chicken was a nice portion. The main event, though - the marsala sauce - was insipid. Did they even add in Marsala? It needed salt and lacked any Marsala flavor. Other than lack of salt, it could have been an OK mushroom sauce, but that's not what we ordered. We were both very much underwhelmed by it. Kudos on the lamb chops, however. Then we ordered the trio of crème brûlée to share. They were soft, velvety with good top crusts, but they were all BLAND. 2 were indistinguishable. All in all, for the price, we expected greatness!
Wonderful ambience, view food and service!
We went here for New Year’s Eve dinner and can not say enough good things about the experience. Everything was perfect, the atmosphere, the service, the food, the drinks... everything was amazing. Even though it was a little busy that night, we never felt hurried or forgotten. Our server (Bella possibly) was professional and informative. She made great suggestions for our meal and made us feel at home. The food was absolutely amazing. I had the prime rib and my spouse had the lobster and prawn Alfredo. There was absolutely no negatives to this meal. It was flawless. I accompanied my prime rod with and Old Fashioned which was equally superb. We ended our meal with a piece of Limoncello cake, which was a suggestion from Bella. It was the perfect end to the meal.
Would absolutely recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a quiet place to have a special meal. We will definitely be coming back again.
2 of 4 plates were lukewarm. Even after being sent back the drawn butter for the lobster was no more than room temperature, and that was pretty cool on this stormy night. After the butter was sent back again, it came back in a ceramic bowl that was no warmer than the metal one. Rather than sending it back, I ate the less than enjoyable entre. 20 percent included gratuity was too much for this meal. My companions were more satisfied.
A nice, romantic restaurant. Food was amazing, the atmosphere was breathtaking!
The food was good but we had a butter wrapper in our crab dip and she took it back and was nice about it. My steak was suppose to be well done and it wasn’t and my lobster was a little slimy. The rest of my guest were pleased with their dinners and they were cooked properly. Our waitress was amazing and we gave her a good tip because of the great service. We came last year for Christmas Eve too and will probably return again next year to make it a family tradition. Thank you
My favorite place for ambiance and view, food is pretty consistently good, this visit it was even better, service has always been superior in our experiences. A little further out since we live in Steilacoom, but worth the trip. Reservations are advised during busier times, but we go earlier than most diners always easy in and easy out. Highly recommend.
First time there i can not say it was amazing and i can not say it was bad it was very avarage . The food was avarage as well and i think it is pretty pricey for what you get.
View is great, food was very good, service was excellent.
Beautiful table, lovely holiday decorations and music, staff was very attentive, food was wonderful. Perfect Holiday Celebration with Friends.
Service was very slow, absent minded server, apps came out with mains, great food and flavor but cold :(
Great time, only negative was the loud music from a party downstairs.
Nice location; food is overpriced and meh.
It took about 25 minutes to get our drinks. My wife's steak was ordered a medium, and was delivered raw, not even rare. The waiter was nowhere to be found. She ate the edges. We didn't see the waiter again until it was time to clear our plates. My wife mentioned the steak was undercooked and he just smiled and walked away. Nothing was done to fix the problem.
It was a beautiful location, and the view was outstanding. My food was good and was properly prepared. The waiter was dreadful, and my wife's food was unacceptable.
The view was beautiful, the staff was fantastic but the food was more like a cafeteria. Was edible but not worth the price
Nice place for lunch with a good friend
Great service, good food, good atmosphere and an amazing view, day or night.
