Cliff House Restaurant - Tacoma
Took my bride there to celebrate her big 55. First time I took her there was for her 21st. We go there once or twice a year and especially if we have out of town guests. This is a great place. Excellent view, delicious food, great service. A little on the expensive side, but worth it!!
The Cliff House is always our first choice for out of town guests and for ourselves when we want the very best: service, food, and view, for sure.. Our latest experience was no exception.. Natalie was wonderful, serving us expertly, and boxing up our leftover food.. Our relatives were appropriately impressed.. The only thing was that Mr Rainier was obscured by clouds.. Maybe the Restaurant come do something about that, next time...
Small portions for price. Nice ambiance, great service.
Great atmosphere the and waitstaff was awesome. I ordered the Lobster and Shrimp Fettuccini and it was good, the Lobster could have been a little better but the rest was delicious. Great place I will be back and will recommend to friends.
Two of the meals were satisfactory. One of the meals was not hot nor did the food have much flavor. I would not suggest this restaurant for dinner based on my experience and the prices. I would give it another try for lunch. It such a beautiful setting that should provide out of this world cuisine.
Food and service was great, but the restaurant canceled our reservation. It wasn't until OpenTable notified me by Email that I knew of the cancellation. I called the Cliff House and they said it would be corrected. I hope it was as I have not received conformation that it was corrected.
The food did not seem as good as it has been in the past. My salmon was fine at one end of the filet and raw at the other.
Cliff House is such a beautiful setting with amazing food. My wife and I enjoyed it immensely. I do wish the huge barge with wrecked cars on it wasn't present but it was still a very good meal, excellent service, good portions and a very good value for a fine dining restaurant.
Really good food. Excellent service. The only drawback was that there wasn't much choice of potatoes. My wife doesn't like garlic mashed potatoes. The only other option was fries, no rice or baked potatoes.
Service was slow, and not attentive. Food came out slow, and incomplete. Atmosphere was nice, but attitude and professionalism was horrible. During our time there, we witnessed staff verbally arguing over who was going to help a table (multiple curse words heard), while food was delivered, conversation between staff continued and was not appropriate. Food selection nor food plating didn’t seem to match ambiance. Overpriced, for the quality of food; meats tastes as if they had been frozen. The view and my company are what made this experience good.
Birthday for my wife. The steak and lobster was tender and sweet. The seafood stew was slightly over cooked but flavored very well.
The restaurant, even though old, has been updated and had a very nice atmosphere. Our food was wonderful, just the right amount of time between courses to thoroughly enjoy the amazing view. Our waitress and the manager were very attentive. All in all, we loved it and will definitely return.
The food was incredibly overpriced for the quality. I payed $28 for, essentially, chicken (that I couldn't eat because it was so burnt) and spaghetti with marinara sauce. Another person in my party paid over $40 for a steak that was nowhere close to the requested temperature. The service was average at best, view was great, but the food was quite poor. It's unfortunate, as the location is beautiful. I suppose this speaks to why the restaurant was almost empty at 7pm on a Saturday night.
We were celebrating our 28th wedding anniversary and chose the cliffhouse because we have been there before and the restraunt was memorable as a bit classier than your run of the mill chain restraunts. We were willing to pay more for that experience. however we were very dissapointed when there were patrons in gym shorts, sandles and t shirts there. I dont know why they even have a dress code if they arent going to enforce it. Our waitress was very nice but did not check on us very often and we had to flag her down to get her attention at one point. once our Meal arrived my wifes steak was over cooked and had no flavoring that we could taste. To be honest we will probably not return there again I have had more romantic atmosphere at olive garden or the outback than we did there. The prices were exactly what we were expecting and cost is not an issue but if I am going to spend an extra hundred dollars then I would expect to be treated with alot classier and romantic atmosphere and at least have a steak with some seasoning on it.
Wonderful service, great drinks, awesome food, spectacular views!
A great place. Food was excellent. My wife had fish and chips. It was very good. Large serving. I had the Chimichurri steak salad. Delicious. Autumn, our server was outstanding. The only blemish was something the Cliff House can do anything about. There is a metal recycling barge in the bay below. Otherwise, you can't beat the view here.
I had really high hopes for cliff house. I'd been waiting to go for a long time and took my wife for our anniversary. The view was great. The restaurant was empty on a sunday afternoon except for us and three tables outside. My meal made me very sick. I ordered a chicken dish, if you can believe this, came out without chicken! It was cold. The dip we ordered was greasy and salty. Our server was awesome and my wife really enjoyed her meal.
Brett in the Bar and Ashley in the Dining Room were both Spectacular. Friendly, outgoing and unobtrusive
Delicious food in a beautiful setting with friendly, professional staff
Very nice atmosphere and with great service. Bella, our server, was very knowledgeable and super sweet.
Beautiful view wonderful food amazing service. Wonderful place over all to celebrate my husbands and I anniversary
View was amazing. Food was bit overcooked, I had the Copper Salmon special which was a bit dry and steak overcooked. Appetizers were tasty, dip and calamari was wonderful.
Great location for those of us near the north end—-browns point, and federal way north ends, but not wanting to travel south to Tacoma, so glad for the Cliff house, great food and location!
We moved out of the city and have returned for our Anniversary. The service was perfect the food was amazing and you cannot beat the views . Cannot wait to return .
It is a must see if you have never dined here before. It is a nice restaurant and the staff are pleasant, but not much to entice repeat customers. The food is good, but better food can be had for less elsewhere. The best thing about this place is the great views.
Lovely view. For the price, I would much rather eat in a number of other restaurants that are comparable and often far less with amazing food, namely Asados. Food was just ok for price point- the view does not make up for it. Ordered Chicken parm and it was just chicken parm, nothing to write home about. Husband ordered a steak, and again- it was just a steak. Been there done that, but not sure we will be back any time soon.
Great view! The fish and chips were good, however, the lobster and shrimp pasta was lackluster. Pasta was not cooked all the way. The sauce lacked flavor. Otherwise, the staff was super friendly.
The view was spectacular! However, I had the 'Surf and Turf' (Filet Mignon and Copper River Salmon) and was quite disappointed in both items. The filet was tough and tasteless and the salmon did not have the rich, tasty Copper River Salmon flavor. The Grey Goose Martini, which cost $15.50, was delicious.
The food was fantastic! Everyone enjoyed the dish they chose. We started with the Crab & Artichoke Dip, absolutely delicious! Three of us had the Lobster & Shrimp Alfredo, which was incredible! One had the fish & chips, another had the bacon wrapped prawns, they were all fantastic as well! We were celebrating my son's graduation, so they even made a special dessert for him! Our server was also wonderful, very friendly and 100% knowledgeable about the menu and sources of the seafood!
Fabulous view, good service and lovely food. The decor is a little tired.
Views are worth it - the food, not so much. It's such a shame that the food is mediocre, because the ambiance and service are both outstanding. There's a strange split experience when you come here - the facility is beautiful, so you expect a fine dining experience. But then you're handed a plastic menu, and the food you order is just ordinary (with high prices). This place could be something special if the full experience and food matched the view. For now? Your best bet is to grab a seat and have a glass of wine or two, and then have dinner elsewhere.
My wife and I enjoyed our dinner very much but , with my wool gaberdine suit jacket and asking to have the temperature turned down, we were cold. My wife wore her wool jacket throughout the meal.
We will come back again.
Food was excellent, steak was truly cooked to order. Great wine list, had a white and red, both were fantastic. Service was amazing, friendly and efficient while giving you your space. Gorgeous views and great ambience.
Absolutely love this place! Excellent service, great location with incredible views. Impressive wine list, delicious menu options, ample portions and one of my favorite types of ambiance. Feels retro, been in business forever. Definitely a favorite for dining out. Whether for seafood, steaks, pasta, salads, or just cocktails and noshing, looking forward to our next opportunity or excuse to dine out. Highly recommended.
My parents were visiting from California and I thought this would be the perfect restaurant for dinner. We reserved a table at 5:30PM on a Monday since I was bringing my 4 month old daughter. They were very accommodating and luckily since our reservation was so early, my daughter was perfectly behaved and slept the majority of the time. The view is AMAZING! Mt. Rainier was 100% visible from the dining room, bar, and the patio and we also had a clear view of the bay. Now, let me tell you about the food. Best salmon I have ever had!!! And I get salmon pretty much everywhere when it is on the menu. You also have to get dessert! The chocolate cake AND the NY cheesecake are beyond delicious! It is pricey but for the view and the excellent food, it is well worth it! I'll be coming back with my husband so he can try the steak options, as he doesn't like fish. I've found that restaurants that have select choices on their menu, do this because they excel in making those dishes. I don't think anyone will be disappointed when they dine here.
Very pleasant, enjoyed a very nice dinner. Great food, service and beautiful view.
Went for our anniversary. Food was great. Service was a little slow but it was a beautiful day to dine outside so we weren't put off by the server seeming to take longer than needed.
Our glasses were never empty! I enjoyed the view and the service was phenomenal! Thank you again for a wonderful night!
