I would have given all 5 stars but when we arrived with a reservation no one was there to check us in. Several employees walked by us but never acknowledged we were there. Finally after about 15 minutes we were seated. It wasn’t crowded so don’t know why we were ignored for so long. Our server was really great though.
Had hi hopes but they failed at every turn. First I made a reservation and when I entered the building I waited for over 15 minutes without a staff member saying a word, and the place was near dead. The food was bland and nothing special at all. Or ordered the "spicy" jambalaya and there was zero spice, very bland. The only thing that was ok was the cocktail but even that was nothing special. I had high hopes with the ambiance but was disappointed with utter failure. Finally this place is way too expensive for the utter failure. I will not be returning.
We were very disappointed in this restaurant. The menu looked great but the food the very mediocre. I would not recommend this place or go back.
The only complaint is that they ran out of food. First there were no potatoes so rice was an available option. Upon delivery of our food we were informed they were out of rice. They did give us a discount on the meal, but it made for a not so perfect Dinner.
Our reservation was for 8:30, we were sat at 9:45pm. We drank in the bar, I tried to pay my tab multiple times to no avail I also had to wait at the bar to even get a drink while the bar tender was scolding the bar back. Very unprofessional. Once seated and FINALLY ordering we were told half the menu was no longer available. We should have been informed far earlier so we could choose another restaurant. Once the food arrived it was very sub par. This was our first time, we were very excited to spend our valentines here. We will not be back. :/
For a very busy day, it was excellent. Our reservations was at 8:15 and we weren’t seated until 9:00. By then they had run out of the featured entree of Halibut and also ran out of the potatoes and the rice. With that said, our evening was very enjoyable. The service is the bar while we were waiting was very slow in even acknowledging that we were there. The service in the dining room was excellent and very apologetic for the things that we couldn’t order. Our meals were wonderful even without the potatoes or rice! We will be back to try it on a not so busy evening!
Reservations were at 8, seated at 8:15 not bad.
We planned ahead and looked at the menu, ordered almost immediately after being seated. Food took about 30 minutes to arrive.
Our appetizer arrived the same time as our meals however.
Also, they did not inform us they were out of potatoes. So they replaced with Rice without telling us. Would of ordered something different had we known.
Otherwise everything was good.
Horribly understaffed on Valentine's. Lobby full of people waiting 30-45 min past reservation time while 30% of the tables were empty. Unapologetic staff, server made zero effort. Had a limited menu for Valentine's and still ran out of items by 7:30. this place is horribly managed. Would not recommend anything beyond maybe drinks on the deck in summer.
They didn’t seat us for 45 min after our reservation time, even though half the tables were empty. Then they were out of several menu items off the limited menu for that night, but didn’t tell us for over 30 minutes after we ordered. We had been waiting 90 minutes by then. Service was slow and unapologetic.
Very busy for Valentine's Day, but they managed it well.
They ran almost 30 mins late to seat us post reservation time. Food and service was a salvage.
Terrible experience. We went for Valentine’s Day and had probably the worst dining experience I have ever had. Our reservation was for 6:30pm, we finally got sat at 7:20pm. They were not staffed properly nor did their host have the disposition to be speaking to people (she was rude) and letting them know of the delayed seating.
Overall, just a terrible Valentine’s Day (that we flew in to celebrate with family) at Cliff House. On top of a crazy wait to be seated, the bartender was so awful when we got drinks while waiting and two of our four meals came out incorrect and VERY wrong (aka we got a pasta when we ordered a chicken dish). Just wish we wouldn’t have gone and saved our evening from almost three hours at the restaurant.
The only redeeming quality was our server (who said she’s been there for 20+ years “Christine” I think). She was fabulous. And the expo/helper was great.
Our first and last visit to the Cliff House of Folsom. We had a 6pm dinner reservation and arrived at, 5:55pm. We walked into the restaurant to find the entire waiting area, part of the bar and entrance to the eating area full of people. We checked in with the frantic hostess and was told, just a few to people to seat before you. So, we stood for a while and then sat down. We spoke to several people who were annoyed at having to wait so long for their reservation. So, at 6:30pm I checked in with the hostess again. She again said a few more people to seat before you. Finally, we were seated at 6:50pm. There were so many empty tables we couldn’t believe it! The waiting area was still full of people waiting. At least we were given a window table. Our waitress came to our table. No personality at all. We ordered our meals and my husband a beer. The salad arrived with nothing in it and the lettuce was limp. I asked our waiter for fresh pepper. She said she didn’t know if they had any? What? It took 20 minutes for my husband beer to arrive. It was a Breaking Bud on draft. It was flat! Our dinner arrived about 45 min after we ordered. My husband ordered a New York Steak and I the Halibut. My husband’s mashed potatoes and vegetables were cold. The steak was not a New York! My Halibut had a strange taste. I’m very familiar with fish especially fish from the sea. This fish tasted like a fresh water fish and my vegetables were cold. To be honest, we couldn’t wait to get out of there. We were so disappointed. Very poor management and certainly not prepared for Valentines Day.
With reservation waited for 30 min, but there were probably 15 to 20 open tables. On valentine's day there was a special menu because kitchen could not handle what I would call a Monday night at applebees. We waited for 30min more for service and 30min more for food. My daughters hamburger came out 10min after the rest of food and when she went to eat it found paper in the burger. Other than the nice views over the river I would call this the worst restaurant we have been to in 20 years and we eat out 3 times a week.
Excellent service to go with the excellent view. Thanks for a great first impression.
Bad smell upon entrance. Serving sizes were too small for the price. Fish and chips was more like gortons fish sticks w 5 french fries. Apps were ok calamari but again too few. Drinks were fine. Server had great attitude but was understaffed she was busy even though restaurant was half full. Will not return.
Enjoyed the food and service. Wish we went in the day time to enjoy the view.
Took my sister-in-law to lunch for her birthday, and it was a great experience! The service, the food, everything was very very good, and we totally enjoyed the view from the table that we had by the window. Also, the complimentary birthday dessert for my sister-in-law was very nice!
good quick service... great view of lake. I would definitely go back.
It was New Year's Eve and unfortunately they were a very understaffed for some reason. We had reservations and we waited 25 minutes for a drink at our bar table finally we ended up eating in the dining room after 2 hours
The help tried their best but, it was apparent that there wasn't enough help on the floor. The waiting time was time 15 minutes before we even received a menu. It took another 30 minutes to get our main course. The quality of the meat was VERY POOR. It was hard to chew, full of fat and tasteless!!! Way back in the 70s, the Cliff House was wonderful!!! I long for that quality and service. Oh well..........
I’m sure this was because it was a holiday. We had reservations at 6:45 PM, and was seated right away but never got water for a half an hour and never got our champagne and beer for 45 minutes. The waitress took our order for appetizers and After 40 minutes of waiting for them, we got up and left. I was disappointed as I know they’ve had great food in the past as well as great service. They just were not prepared for having even just a New Year’s menu which is definitely smaller than the regular menu. Not sure yet if I will go back.
Absolutely HORRIBLE service and the food was mediocre. Save your time and go elsewhere, it’s not worth it!
We had dinner reservations for new year's Eve. We learned from our waiter that the restaurant had a DJ for the evening celebration! We decided to stay and we had a wonderful time! My lemon drops were delicious! Music was great!
Our server seemed to busy doing other things. There were only 3 tables in her area and it took a long time to get drink orders and food order.
The hamburgers (bleu cheese/bacon and BBQ) were great tasting. The calamari was greasy and the steak fries were not crispy. Did not know there was a two drink minimum for dancing on Saturday night, this was not advertised on the website
I went on a Monday and it was not busy. The view is great, the service was attentive, but if you're spending $60 a person the food should be at least decent. It was instead disappointing.
Great view, menu needs some adjustments, fantastic service. Would recommend
The evening was perfect. Good food, good service and good friends.
Great food, great service!
Fabulous experience. We had 12 people, including two toddlers and two who needed assistance, in kind of a family reunion. We stayed until everyone else had gone and then some. The staff could not have been nicer. Perfect service and helpful. The out-of-towners enjoyed the views. The restaurant was quiet (not sure we were). The food was perfect for our group. The menu was extensive, much appreciated. Thank you for your exceptional attention to us.
Excellent Grilled Salmon, Great Rice Pilaf.
Service was great. Food delicious. Beautiful scenery. Family oriented without the Applebee’s feel.
Can't believe after living here all these years, this is the first time I've been here. A little pricey but great views, great service and delicious food! Definitely a place to come back to on a special occasion.
We really did enjoy the Cliff House. It may have been a little pricey for what we had, but the food was really really good. I'll go back again. I see they have a DJ and dancing at 9:30 on Saturdays. We'll go for a later dinner and check that out sometime.
Food was great, wonderful view out over the water, we were there about 4:30 on a Friday and were surprised that we were one of only two couples in the dining area. We came an hour earlier than our reservation, but no problem. Margarita was more like a slushy, the fish and salad was very good, waitress misunderstood our order but remedied it. A Good place!
Terrible food and service to match. Would have been better off purchasing a frozen TV Dinner and heating it up in the microwave at home.
We came here for my birthday dinner, and I am so glad we did! Having read the recent reviews, I was worried that maybe the food was not as good as I remembered, but we decided to take a chance because I love the view. I was happy to discover that the food was just as good as the view. We went on a Sunday after church and could have chosen between brunch or lunch. We opted for lunch. The burger and the salmon pasta dish were both outstanding. The service was also excellent. We sat on the patio in the shade, and every moment was lovely.
I went here for my birthday. The server we had was very rude and unprofessional and the food took forever to come out..
Food was great and service great and music that bn played was nice .
