Food was good, but not excellent. Pricing was reasonable. Environment was loud.
Excellent food, service and atmosphere
Will definitely come back
Unique menu but the food is delicious. Bartenders are great and make delicious drinks!
The food was creative and delicious: short-rib dumplings (5 per order), confit wings, Korean fried chicken, crispy pineapple duck rice, and banana fritters with miso-caramel sauce. The drinks were generously poured, though I found the $2 charge for ice for liquor on-the-rocks to be a tad "nickel-and-dimey". I also think the amount of dumplings per order should be increased from 5 to 6 for the purpose of sharing. Staff was very attentive and accommodating. Will return soon to sample the rest of the menu :-)
Always look forward to dining at Clever Koi. Most often bring out of town guests to impress and/or make very happy. This time it was our foodie friends from NYC who loved it. Travis wonderful in making sure that our wish that there would still be tuna chips (as requested in our reservation) - one of our favorites. Can't wait until next time. Usually like to share and that works well at Clever Koi.
Great experience overall! The combinations of flavors and house made sriracha are a big hit. We enjoyed the vibe as well. Get there early to find parking.
Wonderful meal. Our server (second visit we had her) was terrific. Great evening.
Interesting food selection - a must try. It might not be for the less adventurous. I liked it the wife is not interested in gong back. I would recommend it to anyone who enjoys eating interesting foods. Can't give more of a recommendation as I've only had a single meal there
Very good food and very good service. Drinks are great.
Awesome service and nice atmosphere
Our waitress was friendly! She went over her favorite parts of the menu and gave us tips on ordering. We love everything about the pad tai and ramen bowl!
Great food! Free Banana Fritters for birthday dessert....Yum!!
Everything was delicious but the Drunken Chicken Dumplings and the Brussel Sprouts were really delicious!
The food was amazing but our server was not the best that we’ve had. I marked that we were celebrating a special occasion in the notes when I made the reservation and she never acknowledged it, never asked what we were celebrating. She may have have too many tables as she only came by a handful of times to check on us and took an unusually long time to grab boxes to box our food up. I even had to hunt down a buser to get a bag to take our leftovers home.
Love the atmosphere and food options! Craft cocktails were the highlight. While delicious, portions were much smaller than expected, and not many choices for gluten free. We will be back for drinks!
This place is a somewhat of a hidden gem in Downtown Gilbert! Exceptional service from a staff who is friendly and attentive! The food quality is exceptional! You have to give this place a try if you’re looking for something out of the ordinary!
Great experience from the welcome by the host to checking out. The happy hour food was tasty and interesting. Definitely have to order the tuna chips again next time
Excellent in every way! Everyone in our party of 8 enjoyed their meal.
Great restaurant , very creative , wonderfull, i will definifevly recommend to friends, best Asian food around
My husband and I ate at the Gilbert Clever Koi on a Saturday night. The dining scene in downtown Gilbert has exploded recently and we wanted to try something new, so we went to Clever Koi. The waitress was very nice and explained the entire menu since it was our first time at the restaurant. She highly recommended the dumplings, so we ordered the drunken chicken dumplings as an appetizer. They were crispy on the outside and very tasty on the inside (some of the best dumplings I have ever had; however, I am not a dumpling expert). I got the pork ramen as my entire and it was excellent. All the flavors went together perfectly and I couldn't stop eating the dish. My husband got the spicy seafood hot pot. He loves spicy dishes and seafood so it was a win-win for him. Beware this dish is very spicy but he loved it. The only downside of this restaurant was a table nearby had children and they were letting them run around their table a bit and were very loud. This is very annoying to other patrons but I don't blame the restaurant for this, just the parents. I guess that's the downside to dining out in Gilbert, kids are always at the restaurants, even on a Saturday night.
I thought the menu items were quite expensive for what you get, it just wasn’t worth the price. I enjoyed the chow mein, but I wouldn’t come back for it and the duck curry was incredibly salty. The drinks were a touch too sugary.
What was most notable about the evening would have to be the extraordinarily slow service. It took us 30 minutes to receive our drink order and most of the drinks were just beers too! The food arrived luke warm in that weird, sat on the counter too long way.
Clever Koi was just an average restaurant. I don’t think that I would go again. The waitress we had was terrific! She was good at helping us decifer the menu since there are many items that are unique. She was very attentive and cheerful. The food was just so-so. We ordered the Brussels sprouts starter. It was lacking in flavor and the Brussels sprouts were underdone. I ordered the pineapple duck. The duck was very dry and didn’t have much flavor - no sauce on it. It was a bland entree. My husband ordered the curry octopus. The octopus was salty and the rice was bland. The curry sauce was good. The restaurant is very noisy and it was difficult to chat at the table.
Average at best. Service was passable, messed quite a few things up. Server kept asking what "we" were ordering. Can't stand when servers use "we" versus "you". Interrupted conversation every time she approached table. Definitely not a well trained server for a busy Friday night. None of the food came out together (we ordered 2 appetizers and 4 entrees for 4 ppl). Literally each item came out by itself like it's own course. Food was tasty, no complaint there. Drinks were not served as requested (wrong glass/garnish, etc). Ambience=0. Really disappointing, especially for the price. Definitely will not return, ever. Embarrassed I chose the restaurant to entertain friends...
The s is a true gem! First time in eating here and the service and food were awesome! We sampled several things from the menu. Especially loved the pork belly small plate and chicken dumplings. Will definitely be back!
Cocktails were very good. Ordered rotisserie lamb; it was just an everyday shoulder chop done on the grill, and a small portion. The lamb was good but the herb/cheese dollop on top WAY overpowered it, so I ended up putting that aside. The giant mostly empty bowl it was served in made it look even smaller, and the smear of dark mashed potato on the side just made the bowl look unclean. There was no ambiance to speak of, it was just... functional. Meh.
Love the food and the ambiance! Great restaurant with wonderful tasting food and drinks. Our service tonight wasn’t the best. Had slow food- meals coming out separated from each other. But overall still love this spot!
Everything was perfect and amazing I just wasn’t a huge fan of what I ordered.
We had a great start to New Year’s Eve
Cool resturant with interesting menu . Good service , will return .
The Receptionist was friendly, Waitress and Server were courteous and attentive.
Food was excellent - Pork Ramen, Zesty Noodle, Pork Belly and soft shell crab steam buns were very tasty and good. The East Valley Location is very spacious compare to the Central Phoenix Location. Highly recommend the East Valley.
Love this place, visited 2 or 3 times when we’ve been in AZ. Hope is remains as good as it is.
The food was excellent and the service was incredible, we never had to ask for anything.
First time coming here and was very pleased. Our cocktails were fantastic. I had the gimlet and she had the Bees Knees. We started with the chicken dumplings which were outstanding though a bit pricey at $10. We both loved the pork ramen, which was not only delicious, but very good sized portions.
Food was amazing! Their specialty cocktails were very tasty as well! Had some really interesting dishes!
Always wonderful. We dine here everytime we get a chance
I was quite surprised regarding my experience there. Not because I didn't expect greatness but rather how this restaurant isn't packed all hours of day and night! Amazing look/feel, creative dishes, great flavor, wonderful service... I couldn't have asked for much more! I will definitely be back soon!
Thank you, Clever Koi
great food, menu not overly expansive which is a good think when you are indecisive, our sever was extremely helpful in making suggestions and they were spot on. drinks and dessert were also yummy.
The soft shell crab bao was excellent and a must-have. The spicy seafood ramen outstanding and will certainly come back for other items on the menu. Enjoyed the food and ambiance of Clever Koi
A unique dining experience. Service was great, wait staff was very knowledgeable. Kind of loud. Good was totally different and fun.
