ClayOven Tandoor Indian Grill & Bar
Restaurant was not clean. Dust and dirt on most surfaces. Light fixtures above tables were caked in dust. Food was just average. Wait staff was pleasant, but poorly trained and ineffectual.
Had a wonderful evening! First time here and we were treated like family! Food is the best Indian I have had this side of Deli! Authentic, warm and real! Be sure to ask for Oscar,Chef and Back of the House Manager is extremely gifted and his passion for his food shows up his smile, as well as his willingness to go the extra step to make everything perfect. If you are within the Northwest Chicago burbs this is worth the drive from anywhere you are!
They were the most attentive hosts. Really helped with my date while is a vegan. Suggested correct vegan dishes and allowed her a tasting. All of the food was top notch. We could not have had a nicer time!
We attended for the Mother’s Day brunch, which we’ve enjoyed before and is why we went back. There was a great selection of Indian dishes to sample and not one that I didn’t enjoy. I’ve been a fan of Indian food for years, and never realized how good curried fish was! (I usually order any of the Lamb dishes). The only down side was being a buffet there was tendency (for me, anyway) to over eat. My wife loved the selection and the different tastes, too. We both left with full and happy tummies!
Our first visit at ClayOven will definitly not be our last. Great tasting food. We really enjoyed it and is fairly priced.
They must have been understaffed because the services was very slow. Food was great and I am willing to give this place another try.
We love Clay Oven Tandoor. Food is great and authentic. There are tons of dishes on the Buffet to choose from. There is something for everyone.
Service was great. Food delicious, but spicy. Atmosphere is lovely.
A return visit for this restaurant and cuisine to celebrate a birthday. Staff were very helpful with drink and menu choices. Food was paced nicely and very delicious. Dessert was complementary, very kind of the owner and tasty. We will continue to recommend ClayOven Tandoor and visit again!
Our group kind of stayed a little longer and we felt some of the staff (beside the lady) were not too happy about it.
First time and was very impressed all around.. Will be back soon..
This was our third trip to Clay Oven and our first less than satisfactory experience. The food was all over salted on our most recent visit — everything from the Samosas to the naan to my entree. And then one of the employees treated a young child in our group rudely. There was only one other table taken in our room — another family with a young child. The 2 year old in our group was getting antsy and so his dad was letting him walk around the almost empty room (closely followed by the dad). When an older man was bringing out the food to the other table he was quite rude about the child walking around and insinuated he wasn’t being watched despite his dad being right there. Made us feel quite unwelcome. I’m pretty sensitive to children misbehaving in restaurants and truly felt his comments were not called for. Not sure if we’ll go back.
The best Indian food on the North side of Chicago! Delicious, authentic and extremely satisfying. Fresh ingredients and many flavorful options for all types of diets - meat eaters, vegetarians, gluten free, etc...Not only is the food superb the service the outstanding. I have eaten here for both lunch and dinner. The Lunch buffet is a wonderful opportunity try different dishes. Dinner is more of a chance to order specific dishes of choice. My family, including our teen ager, especially loves their goat dishes!
Overall, we love the Clay Oven, but the only thing I feel that has been an issue the last two times is the service. They apparently take care of large parties next to them and the resturant suffers with the staff help for the tables.
Great Indian restaurant. Both South and North Indian food. Highly recommend it.
Superb food, exceptionally seasoned and prepared. Service is phenomenal- really make every attempt to make you feel welcome. Ambience is modern contemporary with a touch of Buddhism- rather pleasant and welcome for anyone wanting Asian cuisine. It doesn’t go over the top with trying to be to Indian as most places do. As a seasoned reviewer I can say my wife and I will continue to visit this hidden gem in Long Grove IL.
Updated 5/11/18; Excellent again despite Open Table telling us the restaurant could not seat us 10 Nina before arrival. They lied and the restaurant had no issues and had not received the reservation. Open Table screwed up and tried to blame restaurant. Very bad form. Love Clay Oven- exceptional Indian food and even better service!
Rather excellent Indian dining experience. The decor is modern contemporary, Buddhist with a touch of country. It works though and is elegantly classy. The food is well prepared and flavourful- with an excellent selection from several regions of India. This has become our favourite, especially since we don’t have to into a busy city or town. Ample parking and no traffic on way there from Crystal Lake or back .
Service was great, food is delicious and atmosphere is friendly and great for family, friends or a date. Lighting and seating is comfortable.
A wonderful meal in a quiet setting. We plan on returning many times as the menu has many delicious options!
We sat outside and watched the blue herons and other birds in the nature preserve from the patio. The food here is wonderful and the servings are generous. Even though we were the only folks eating outdoors, the service was still wonderful.
We love the food, the staff, the atmo. All of it! Great restaurant.
The soup was very tasteful and the entrees my nephew and I chose were delicious. I had ordered a garden salad which arrived at the table at least 15 minutes after my nephew ate his soup and right before receiving our entree. The salad was very basic and I will order the soup next time. My nephew was going to order the spicy wings for an appetizer; but he was not willing to wait the half hour.
Amazing food and flavors and wonderful service. Atmosphere was great for a date night, too!
Excellent menu & interesting variety & choices. Food is well prepared, excellent quality , flavors that are "The Best" - Quality - Service & a Great Experience. All of the Servers were great.
We will return >>>>
Good food, great service
This has been the 3rd time I have been here. I have been very pleased with the quality of the food and service.
Visited during the lunch service as the buffet was excellent.
Excellent restaurant with good service and fresh food. They also gave coffee and salad on the house.
Staff worked hard for a most pleasant experience. Our evening was important to them. We will return, sooner than later.
