Good food and service overall. Ambiance is relaxed... not too upscale.
This restaurant has gone down since the last time I visited several years ago.
Zach is a fantastic server, and Balto and Balinder were very helpful in helping with the special event. Our guest of honor became ill on the original night and Balto was very helpful in my rescheduling request, giving us the cellar which is equally as good or maybe even better than the wine room. Our guest of honor was very greatful for the dinner, and the quietness of the cellar really enhanced the experience as we were able to have conversations that everyone could hear. Great job! I'll be back.
i am a total foodie so this was my pick for my birthday ! Loved it and will return again .
Nice. Very good waiter.
If it is the first time eating India then you will probably like it, in my opinion there are much better traditional India Restaurants close by, too Americanized for me. The venue was cool, large so quite noisy drink service was slow. The food lacked flavor, just chicken basically in cream sauces.
Try more authentic places which there are in and around Austin
Fantastic food! The mussels appetizer dish was my favorite. So light and fresh. We sat in the cellar portion of the restaurant which was so perfect. The upstairs was a bit too loud for my taste and the cellar had more of an intimate feel to it. Our server was wonderful and made the whole experience even better. Thanks Amber!
The food and drinks were so good! Love this place and will definitely come back!
We enjoyed dining and cocktails at the clay pit and we both enjoyed our meal and the value. The selection was easy and wait staff were helpful with all aspects of our visit. We will visit again and I absolutely loved my first experience of Indian cuisine .
Thanks to all at Clay Pit Restaurant
Anniversary dinner. Excellent service. But overall the Clay Pit didn’t live up to our expectations, based on earlier reviews and difficulty getting a reservation.
Excellent value in happy hour dining. Tandoori bites and particularly the mussels were outstanding.
I have always loved the food. Went on 2/16 bar girl was extremely rude and then when 5 friends we sat our service poor my friend did not get a sauce till end of meal too late and her wine either. Service no good
Excellent waiter. Fantastic food. Will be back.
My wife and I are newly vegetarian, so we decided to try Clay Pit because of the large vegetarian selection. We were not disappointed!! Everything was so good!!!
Overall this was a good experience. Food was good, not great. Only thing that really detracted from the experience was our main waiter. He was disengaged, unkempt, hands appeared dirty, and inattentive. We felt like we drew the short straw... Although it was Valentines Day, Our group was there well before the crowds arrived, so no excuse there...
Clay Pit has truly mastered Indian cuisine for Texas. The food is flavorful and well prepared, and for most dishes you can select your preferred level of spiciness. And the calamari is some of the best in town!
Food was great. Good options for cocktails. Would go again for sure when I am in Austin !!
Our first experience eating this type of food, and we loved it! They got my daughter’s order wrong, but she didn’t complain. It was a great evening anyway.
We didn't touch half of our food and the server never asked us how we liked anything. Service ware really slow.
We were seated in the main area at a busy time so the noise level was a little high but the service and food were excellent. Of course we were seated right away since we had reservations from Open Table.
Always a Great Choice for Fine Foods .......... Love It ...
I eat at Clay Pit more than a dozen times a year. It's close to UT, the parking is easy (usually free), and the bar is quite wonderful. The food is more-or-less generic Indian, always good but not all that inventive. The staff is efficient, friendly, and quick. The only negative I might venture is that the main course always arrives right after the appetizer---sometimes with it, and occasionally before it, even if I ask them to take their time. The trick is NOT to order the main course until the appetizer has arrived, I guess. But this is a tiny criticism...I love Clay Pit.
Good number of choices on the menu and everything we ordered was excellent. Not too noisy to have a conversation.
So much fun dining in and touring the historic Austin Bertram building. Our waitress was amazing, and could recite the buildings history. It's where my great grandmother, who was part of the Bertram family, worked in the 1880s during the construction of the Capitol. The food was excellent!
We did have to wait a little bit for food but it was a busy Friday night so understandable. When the food arrived it was delicious and warm.
We had dinner here with Indian friends. They guided us to try dishes we hadn’t had before. Delicious! I really liked the Saag Panner stuffed Naan, goat curry and especially Kashmiri Kofka Corma, (I think that’s the spelling). It is potato Panner balls served in an amazing creamy cashew almond sauce. The meal was fantastic!
Went for dinner to celebrate my wife’s Birthday. Made reservations 5 days ahead. It was Friday night and they seemed overwhelmed with the crowd. Our drinks came fairly prompt but my wife’s signature cocktail was just like drinking flavored water. We ordered our main meal and the appetizers were good, samosa chat didn’t have any flavor but grilled vegetables were great. When the main meal came, they forgot the naan and didn’t bring it until we were done with the curries and rice. We didn’t order dessert even though they offer free dessert for the birthday person. They didn’t seem to care either. Overall food was good but the service sucked because the waiting staff has no clue about how to serve Indian food, Naans don’t come at the end. For them it seemed, ignorance was bliss!! I wouldn’t go again.
Took my girlfriend here for a birthday dinner. Fantastic food and perfect for her as she is a vegetarian and the restaurant has a huge selection of vegetarian and vegan options. Plenty for the carnivores like myself as well. The mango lemonade is a must try! Great experience overall.
The Clay Pit is such a great restaurant. From the moment you walk in, the aroma from the kitchen comes into play and gets you in the mood to enjoy amazing Indian food.
I can't wait to come back!
The Clay Pitt food is always delicious but Friday nights are obviously busy so be ready for a wait. We arrived early for our reservation and they were able to seat us a little early, which we thought was good. However, even though we ordered immediately after we were seated, we had to wait an hour and fifteen minutes before our food arrived. We’ll be back but we’ll make sure we plan the 2 + hours for our dinning experience.
Great Indian Food. Good Service. If you want a review you shouldn't ask for a specific amount of characters in the written review. All questions were already answered!!
Wonderful place for our first anniversary celebration. We requested to sit downstairs which was a unique experience. The food was amazing and our server was as well. Sitting downstairs was also unique in the fact that sound echos so if there is a noisy diner down there with you it can be a little loud. I understand that this is in no way the restaurants fault and would not deter me from eating down there just something to keep in mind if you dine with people sensitive to that kind of thing. The upstairs looked very nice as well. Overall a 5 out of 5 experience. Portion size and quality were more than worth what we spent on the meal.
Very slow service, which made for an excruciatingly long meal. Cold food. Bright lights. Food on the floor. Not a great experience.
Pretty rude server (he looked hungover...) and the server-in-training would say she was going to take care of something and would disappear for what seemed like a long time. Two times, I saw her some back into the dining area empty handed and then apparently remembered what she was going to do, e.g. bring dessert menus, and left again and returned again. About 15 minutes went by with 3 requests for one guest to get a second beer.
Very helpful staff.
The Clay Pit is a always a great choice especially when vegetarians and meat eaters are dining together. The food was delicious as always and we sat in the quieter downstairs dining room. Our food took a little longer to arrive than we would have liked this visit, but that isn't a great surprise on a busy Saturday night.
Great food, terrible waiter. Threw plates on table.
I've never had a bad meal. I've taken lots of friends and everyone has always enjoyed their meal.
We love it & would go more often if it were closer to us!
