Excellent value in happy hour dining. Tandoori bites and particularly the mussels were outstanding.
I have always loved the food. Went on 2/16 bar girl was extremely rude and then when 5 friends we sat our service poor my friend did not get a sauce till end of meal too late and her wine either. Service no good
Excellent waiter. Fantastic food. Will be back.
My wife and I are newly vegetarian, so we decided to try Clay Pit because of the large vegetarian selection. We were not disappointed!! Everything was so good!!!
Overall this was a good experience. Food was good, not great. Only thing that really detracted from the experience was our main waiter. He was disengaged, unkempt, hands appeared dirty, and inattentive. We felt like we drew the short straw... Although it was Valentines Day, Our group was there well before the crowds arrived, so no excuse there...
Clay Pit has truly mastered Indian cuisine for Texas. The food is flavorful and well prepared, and for most dishes you can select your preferred level of spiciness. And the calamari is some of the best in town!
Food was great. Good options for cocktails. Would go again for sure when I am in Austin !!
Our first experience eating this type of food, and we loved it! They got my daughter’s order wrong, but she didn’t complain. It was a great evening anyway.
We didn't touch half of our food and the server never asked us how we liked anything. Service ware really slow.
We were seated in the main area at a busy time so the noise level was a little high but the service and food were excellent. Of course we were seated right away since we had reservations from Open Table.
Always a Great Choice for Fine Foods .......... Love It ...
I eat at Clay Pit more than a dozen times a year. It's close to UT, the parking is easy (usually free), and the bar is quite wonderful. The food is more-or-less generic Indian, always good but not all that inventive. The staff is efficient, friendly, and quick. The only negative I might venture is that the main course always arrives right after the appetizer---sometimes with it, and occasionally before it, even if I ask them to take their time. The trick is NOT to order the main course until the appetizer has arrived, I guess. But this is a tiny criticism...I love Clay Pit.
Good number of choices on the menu and everything we ordered was excellent. Not too noisy to have a conversation.
So much fun dining in and touring the historic Austin Bertram building. Our waitress was amazing, and could recite the buildings history. It's where my great grandmother, who was part of the Bertram family, worked in the 1880s during the construction of the Capitol. The food was excellent!
We did have to wait a little bit for food but it was a busy Friday night so understandable. When the food arrived it was delicious and warm.
We had dinner here with Indian friends. They guided us to try dishes we hadn’t had before. Delicious! I really liked the Saag Panner stuffed Naan, goat curry and especially Kashmiri Kofka Corma, (I think that’s the spelling). It is potato Panner balls served in an amazing creamy cashew almond sauce. The meal was fantastic!
Went for dinner to celebrate my wife’s Birthday. Made reservations 5 days ahead. It was Friday night and they seemed overwhelmed with the crowd. Our drinks came fairly prompt but my wife’s signature cocktail was just like drinking flavored water. We ordered our main meal and the appetizers were good, samosa chat didn’t have any flavor but grilled vegetables were great. When the main meal came, they forgot the naan and didn’t bring it until we were done with the curries and rice. We didn’t order dessert even though they offer free dessert for the birthday person. They didn’t seem to care either. Overall food was good but the service sucked because the waiting staff has no clue about how to serve Indian food, Naans don’t come at the end. For them it seemed, ignorance was bliss!! I wouldn’t go again.
Took my girlfriend here for a birthday dinner. Fantastic food and perfect for her as she is a vegetarian and the restaurant has a huge selection of vegetarian and vegan options. Plenty for the carnivores like myself as well. The mango lemonade is a must try! Great experience overall.
The Clay Pit is such a great restaurant. From the moment you walk in, the aroma from the kitchen comes into play and gets you in the mood to enjoy amazing Indian food.
I can't wait to come back!
The Clay Pitt food is always delicious but Friday nights are obviously busy so be ready for a wait. We arrived early for our reservation and they were able to seat us a little early, which we thought was good. However, even though we ordered immediately after we were seated, we had to wait an hour and fifteen minutes before our food arrived. We’ll be back but we’ll make sure we plan the 2 + hours for our dinning experience.
