About Clay Oven
The cuisine at the Clay Oven is about transforming tradition and old techniques while retaining the flavor profile to make them relevant to the present times and lifestyle. Food progresses and changes over time in presentation, technique, and tastes, and we consistently attempt to move Indian cuisine forward into the present. For the past 32 years we have consistently attempted to modernize and add interest to our dishes keeping the Ayurvedic principles intact. Our menus are tied to the seasons and what's growing around us in order to bring out the flavor and to allow guests to savor our food. We serve a large selection of game including venison, wild boar, rabbit, duck, alpaca, quail and elk, all easily paired with drinks selected by our Certified Sommelier. Fruits and vegetables in season appear alongside our organic herbs grown in our own garden. There is no fusion of cuisines, just a fun and creative Indian experience created for our guests.

Clay Oven Ratings and Reviews
Service was impeccable, food was creative and perfectly spiced. Had Elk and Boar on the menu as a special the night we attended, we stuck with the lamb chops, chicken kabobs and lamb shank. Vegetable dishes were excellent, could have used some more sauces on the table, some various chutneys. Otherwise, definitely a local gem.
We LOVED this restaurant. It was our first time dining here and we were very impressed with the food, the service, and the ambience. It is in a strip mall, but don’t let that dissuade you because it is a charming spot. The father and son team are lovely and you can see why this place has been in business for 33 years. Our meal was delicious and we will be back for more soon! Also—amazing wine by the glass selection and long list of beers to choose from as well. Great spot!
Absolutely delicious and authenticly prepared, even the seemingly not authentic dishes. Gravy in the chicken curry was just like home. Everything was just perfect! From the service to the food and drinks. We will definitely be visiting again soon.
This was our first time here and we tried a variety of dishes family style and weren't disappointed. I had the prawns, which were huge and well seasoned. The lamb shank and bone marrow were the real standouts. Everything was delicious and well presented. And we received friendly, attentive service.
Superb in all respects: food, service, wine, value, hospitality. We've dined at Clay Oven five or six times now and have never had anything other than a great experience. This time we included a friend who hadn't been there before, and she too just loved the place. We all had the ribs (best on the planet) followed by two of us going for the special lamb shank entree (delish, beautifully presented) and the third the wild boar (ditto on the delish). Wine recs by the somm/manager were spot-on, as they have been each time we've been there and wanted to try new things.
If you are gluten free then this place is a MUST for you! Almost everything on the menu is safe, and they make a gluten free bread too (which was kinda dry, but at least it was something!) Really friendly service and delicious food!
Just a wonderful meal! Everything is always so fresh, they buy from the local farms and we actually run into the owners at the local farmers market sometimes buying things for the restaurant! The chutnies with homegrown fruits were amazing. Bone marrow was outstanding, so flavorfill. One of my favorite places in OC!
The decor is warm and comfortable. The service was fantastic. Every suggestion came with a beautiful disruption of flavor that made your mouth water. The actual food lived up to the built expectations. This was a beginning to end success.
Can't stop thinking about the wild boar we had. Maybe the single best piece of pork I have ever tasted. Great place for a group meeting, coworkers loved the shared family style meal. Top notch service and warm ambiance. Parking in the lot can be tricky, better to carpool. Glad it's close by!
Clay Oven has been around a long time, and I suspect they survive due to their delicious, authentic Indian food. Servers were outstanding, and the owner was very warm and friendly. Looking forward to trying more of their specials.
I love spicy food and usually when I ask places for the hottest they have, it doesn't measure up. They DO NOT mess around here! Thoroughly enjoyed the food, the lamb shank was the best I've had anywhere and their hot sauces are incredible. They grow all the peppers they use, and even brought me out a fresh reaper chile! Highly recommended.
Just moved to this area from NorCal and already pleased to find an actual good Indian restaurant. Tastes like real home cooked food, no oil and fat in everything. Clean flavors and everything tasted different and nice. Manager was very nice and accommodating. Close to my work so I will try the lunch too.
Clay Oven was wonderful as per usual. This was our first trip during lunch. While the full menu isn't available for lunch, the options provided variety and wonderful flavors. We enjoyed the Chicken Tikka Masala and Lamb Kafta Vinadloo. We also shared a Mango Lassi and finished with a Mango Creme Brulee.
Fresh ingredients straight from their own garden! Food was delicious, staff was friendly and very accommodating. We started with the roasted avocado and went for special dishes on their rotating specials list. Both entrees were outstanding as were the vegetables and breads. Mango cream brulee was a great way to end the meal. Really pleased.
