Ecerything we ordered we absolutely loved! Our server was the best!!!
Spectacular! Went here for Portland Dining Month and got to try several different dishes. Very good. I highly recommend!
Visiting from Seattle, we thoroughly enjoyed dining at Clarklewis. The food was delicious and our server was attentive and helpful. We loved the farm to table freshness of the menu items and the creativity of the chef. We will certainly dine there again when in Portland.
We went to Clarklewis for Portland Dining Month. We were generally disappointed in the experience. We carefully searched restaurants and carefully chose those whose menu we thought we would enjoy. We chose Clarklewis based on the menu and their presence on the "Gluten-free" list. Clarklewis advertised a fish dish and a chicken dish which we anticipated ordering. They advertised two desserts that sounded delicious.
When we arrived we learned that Clarklewis had substituted a pork dish for the chicken dish. In addition there was absolutely no sign of the desserts that were on the Portland Dining Month menu. Further, the portions were VERY small, making the meal a poor value in our estimation.
Good food and ambience, but there was a very long delay between first and second courses. It was a Saturday night, but not crazy busy. Definitely not busy enough to explain the delay.
Went for March Dining month and the $33 menu options. We were able to try all the options on this menu due to our group size. Food was ok. Portions small. Our server was friendly and attentive but the time it took to get our food was ridiculous!! Something is wrong in the kitchen. The level of smoke in the dining area was high. We would not go back.
Wood-fired oven...enough said. The staff was very friendly and service was impeccable. The food is amazing and the menu is quite diverse. Great place to enjoy a meal.
Portland Dining Month! Excellent options on the three-course $33 menu. Friendly, attentive service, our meals were beautifully presented and a masterful combination of flavors.
We were excited to visit during Portland Dining month. We were seated even before our reservation time. However, we were seated next to the bar, so noise level was even higher than in the rest of the restaurant. Our server was very attentive and we received our cocktails in a timely manner (expensive cocktails). We ordered a variety of things so my husband and I could try more of the food offerings. The soup was very good and a nice portion. My salad, though very good, was marginal in volume at best (the thinnest sliced beets ever) . Then came the entree. My risotto was a nice portion and very, very good. My husband ordered the salmon, and though very good, it's sad to say you get a larger piece of fish on a Burgerville fish sandwich. There was maybe 1/4 cup of roasted potatoes with it. Now, potatoes are cheap, so a few more would have at least given him something to fill up on . Our dessert offerings were very good and a normal portion for dessert. Overall, food is very good, but even with Portland Dining Month, expensive for the amount of food you get, especially when you walk out hungry. Not a good bang for your buck.
We came here for my birthday dinner and loved our meal. The food, drinks and service were great. The server came out to let us know my entree was overcooked, so they were remaking it, and comped us a glass of wine to make up for the wait, which was very nice. Such attention to detail and a great atmosphere. Highly recommend clarklewis.
Great experience. Fabulous food. We left an umbrella at the table. One of the servers actually dropped it off for the individual who left it - after his shift because it was on his way home. Crazy fantastic service!
Delicious food with great ambience. The service was great. Seating was prompt.
Great Dessert, fantastic soup...entrees were average, not great for the price point. Service was average
Overall, our experience was ok. We had a reservation but ended up waiting 30 minutes over that. Also, the Portland Dining Month menu was tiny - I was still hungry when I left.
Service was truly horrible. Food was partly very good...and also mediocre. But really, service was horrible.
We made a reservation for 7pm and arrived about 15 minutes early. The table is not ready, which is totally understandable. So we waited, and at 7pm the table was still not ready. The hostess informed us that the people sitting there were taking their time to leave. 7:15pm rolled around, and we were finally seated. I felt like they should've informed the party before us that table needs to be cleared out by a certain time, give them a nudge, or offer us to wait at the bar? It was not off to a good start.
The food was mediocre at best. I can name at least 20 places within a five miles radius that has better quality food with similar price tag. The best thing about what I ate was their complimentary bread with butter...
When the bill arrived, we noticed an extra charge for the soup that should've been part of the Portland Dining Month package. Waiter took care of it, but if we didn't check the bill, it would've been charged. Just didn't feel right and ended our experience on a sour note.
One star for the ambiance, and another for the drink. It was stiff and delicious. The other aspects were just not up to par.
We went on a quiet Monday evening for a birthday dinner. We were seated promptly and taken care of continuously throughout the night. The food was incredible and the staff was courteous and attentive. We were made to feel very special!
Slow roasted chicken was amazing. Service overall screwed up on our order, but our individual server was great and comped the portion that was messed up, apologizing effusively. So she more than made up for a simple and innocent error.
We visited as part of Portland Dining Month. Every part of our dinner was great. Wonderful service and delicious food. We'll be back.
We decided to try during Portland Dining Month. Initially our server took a bit of time to come to the table, but once he acknowledged us, he and the rest of the staff where spot on. The pre-fix appetizer options were a beet salad or cream of leek soup, both where very good. I don't like beets, but in trying my friend's salad it was quite tasty. The options for the main course where salmon or mushroom risotto. While the risotto was very good, it was more of a side than a main. The salmon was perfectly cooked, but very small portions and really no side or starch to speak of. I know my male companions were left hungry. The desserts fell flat, the sticky pudding was okay, but the tiramisu was the worst I have ever had. While I can appreciate that it was not the typical tiramisu, it was not creamy at all, and was rubbery and not appetizing in the least. In reviewing the rest of the menu, while the meat options where a bit pricey, I think I would have been better off ordering an entree off the main menu rather than the pre-fix.
Great place, I took my wife on a date night here and had a wonderful time!!
Was recommended from a family member and was the perfect spot, Service and Food was outstanding!!
Thank you Clarklewis for the great experience!!
Excellent time at Clarklewis! This was our first time here and we loved it. Our service was excellent and the food was better than I imagined. Thank you for a great experience.
Fabulous waiter. Great food. Really loud.
We ordered the tasting menu. Lots of food and a bit of almost everything The wait staff was very attentive anIt was a wonderful
Pretty interesting restaurant. Interesting food. I wouldn't say my favorite but there were a lot of people there so don't take my review to heart. It seems like it is a hot spot and that is great. Very different from what I am use to. I have nothing bad to say at all.
Loved the food. Did not love smelling like wood smoke after.
Loved it! Will be back soon..
Our server Nicholas made our birthday event so very special. Thank you for your
lovely recommendations and attentive care!
We had a great time and the food was wonderful. However, we were seated by the windows and close to the door and we were all very chilly the whole dinner. This made it a bit difficult to enjoy more. I had to put my coat over my lap before our entrée course as I couldn't keep warm.
I was excited to return to this restaurant as we'd been here several years ago. I was disappointed to find relatively bland food. There's a lot better that Portland offers.
Great appies, dinner, drinks, and desert. Will visit again soon.
Loved the waiter, Steve! The food was good and we never felt rushed. We were meeting a friend from Corvallis who had never been there and she loved it!
Worst dining experience ever! Cut of steak had more connective tissue than beef. Scallop was obviously frozen and had a horrible taste. Sides were a bland joke. Took 1hr just to get our starter. Never again!
Busy but expected on Valentine's Day. Took half hour to get seated after our reservation time. Loved the red rose petals on the table. Food was good. Loved the heart shaped cookie.
Our 7pm reservation wasn’t available until 7:30. Entryway was packed with customers also having to wait for their tables. Hostess was not particularly friendly.
Our server was nice but it took a while to get our first drink. The food was good. Not amazing, but appropriately good.
We had the “pleasure” of witnessing the hostess come through on multiple occasions to size up tables and see when new ones would be free. Felt like we were being pushed through.
Granted it’s Valentine’s Day, but the set menu price plus drinks was roughly double what a respectable restaurant in Portland would fetch. Will not be returning.
Went for Valentine's day and they were a half hour behind schedule. The host up front was not very personable. We asked to wait at the bar and were told that was not an option, but we could "go to the bar across the street and wait." The Manager (owner?) was very thoughtful and brought everyone waiting- there were quite a few parties filling the entrance - drinks while we all waited... Once seated our server was exceptional and the food was delicious! Would highly recommend ClarkLewis, just be prepared for a wait if you try to go on a holiday.
I really enjoyed Clarklewis. The food was good, the drinks were strong, and the service was very attentive, even with it being a holiday. My only complaint was we got the worst table in the house, a back corner spot where they leave the door to the building open to vent the smoke out. It was a great I really experience though, and I would recommend!
I was disappointed that when i booked the reservation there was no mention of a fixed menu for Valentines Day. A bit disappointing to take my husband who had never been and not get to share the full menu. The service was great but i wouldn't go back for a special occasion again.
