I was excited to return to this restaurant as we'd been here several years ago. I was disappointed to find relatively bland food. There's a lot better that Portland offers.

Loved the waiter, Steve! The food was good and we never felt rushed. We were meeting a friend from Corvallis who had never been there and she loved it!

Worst dining experience ever! Cut of steak had more connective tissue than beef. Scallop was obviously frozen and had a horrible taste. Sides were a bland joke. Took 1hr just to get our starter. Never again!

Busy but expected on Valentine's Day. Took half hour to get seated after our reservation time. Loved the red rose petals on the table. Food was good. Loved the heart shaped cookie.

Our 7pm reservation wasn’t available until 7:30. Entryway was packed with customers also having to wait for their tables. Hostess was not particularly friendly.

Our server was nice but it took a while to get our first drink. The food was good. Not amazing, but appropriately good.

We had the “pleasure” of witnessing the hostess come through on multiple occasions to size up tables and see when new ones would be free. Felt like we were being pushed through.

Granted it’s Valentine’s Day, but the set menu price plus drinks was roughly double what a respectable restaurant in Portland would fetch. Will not be returning.

Went for Valentine's day and they were a half hour behind schedule. The host up front was not very personable. We asked to wait at the bar and were told that was not an option, but we could "go to the bar across the street and wait." The Manager (owner?) was very thoughtful and brought everyone waiting- there were quite a few parties filling the entrance - drinks while we all waited... Once seated our server was exceptional and the food was delicious! Would highly recommend ClarkLewis, just be prepared for a wait if you try to go on a holiday.

I really enjoyed Clarklewis. The food was good, the drinks were strong, and the service was very attentive, even with it being a holiday. My only complaint was we got the worst table in the house, a back corner spot where they leave the door to the building open to vent the smoke out. It was a great I really experience though, and I would recommend!

I was disappointed that when i booked the reservation there was no mention of a fixed menu for Valentines Day. A bit disappointing to take my husband who had never been and not get to share the full menu. The service was great but i wouldn't go back for a special occasion again.

Love the smell of the wood fired grill upon first walking in to the restaurant. Simple but well-executed menu. Great cocktails and wines by the glass. Wood-fired veggies are a nice starter or a side along with an entree. My King Salmon with parsnips and sun chokes was perfect. When all is said and done, prices can be on the high side; but, overall, it's all worth it.

Clarklewis opened in 2003 as part of the new wave of farm to table restaurants Portland has fostered since then. We went several times when it was new, but had not been back in a number of years with all the other newer good choices in this city.

I had dinner last night with my wife and two friends. I must say everything we had was excellent and the service was very good, if slightly slow-paced (but we weren't in a hurry). We started with cocktails - I had a Negroni that included house-infused strawberry gin that was excellent (not as bitter as some) and an oversize ice cube. I brought my own bottle of wine and it was properly decanted and served ($20 corkage). There was excellent complimentary bread assortment served. We had a charcuteri platter that had some delicious meats.

Three of us split two radicchio salads which was plenty and also very good. For mains one of us had salmon, and the other three spaghetti with lamb ragú. No complaints here. We were full at this point and skipped desert.

This visit was a reminder to revisit some of the older venues and not just the hottest new places.

This restaurant is trying too hard. The dishes I had were overly complex without a defining note, tasting muddy and confused... The prices are high, as is the noise level while the lighting is too low.

Our experience was very positive! The wait staff was quite aware of both my wife's birthday and the timeline we needed to heed in order to make a curtain for a play later. We would go back later to explore the full dinner menu.

Sometimes farm to table restaurants try too hard to be innovative. I had to look hard to find something on the menu that wasn't off-putting. The spaghetti with lamb Bolognese was wonderful. I managed to avoid lentils, kale, squid ink, and a variety of accompaniments which were trendy and probably well prepared but not necessary.

He explained the options well and when they arrived at the table they looked tasty and tasted delicious. From the salad to the main courses to the dessert, the dining experience was terrific.

We had an amazing meal- the chef's special. He selected 10 different dishes for the great value of $60 a person. If u do this chef's selection, u shouldn't be in a rush, as it takes awhile to prepare that much food. The drinks were amazing as well. Overall an amazing meal.

The only issue I had with clarklewis is that they have a subpar ventilation system so when I left on nye I smelled like a campfire for the rest of the night, which was gross. Their preset menu was great, but my ravioli dish was not, and nobody asked how our meals were or I would have asked for something else. Good atmosphere, food, and service overall though especially for New Years Eve!!

Clarklewis use to be a top 10 restaurant in Portland and a go to spot for business dinners, anniversaries and date nights. We had our annual family Christmas dinner this year and were a bit disappointed. The menu selection was decent, but when you’re paying this high of prices, expectations are also high and they did not match up. The wine selection was great and we enjoyed our cocktails. The cheese plate as well was nice, as well as the fresh bread. The big miss was the 32oz Tamahawk steak we ordered to share at $135, it was recommended medium rare, we requested medium. What came was well done and quite honestly for the price, the huge bone took away a lot of the actual meat, so the price-value was not close. Our server was nice, the ambience festive with wonderful Christmas trees and lights. They need to update a few things in order for us to come back — the Portland restaurant scene is competitive and there are too many better options.

Our company has been here several times for business lunches. Today was not a good day. Service was annoyingly slow and absent; we even had to ask for water glasses to be refilled. Food didn't knock our socks off this time. Power went out so check-out was delayed - not their fault, of course, but added to the mood of the meal. We may look for another venue for our business lunches.....

We have dined at ClarkLewis many times in the past but not since a year ago. At that time we took an out of town guest to dinner and had good food and service. This time we were there for my wife's birthday (indicated on the reservation, not acknowledged--but that's okay). The room was far from crowded. The server arrived after a moderate delay. The menu was much shorter than in the past and the server seemed to be pushing a tasting menu. We ordered a bottle of wine and then a first course and entrées. The first course (beet salad with chêvre) was fine. Since the choices were limited, we both ordered salmon. What arrived was thoroughly dried out fish on a bed of anyone's guess and a green mystery sauce. The food was more or less edible, given that we were hungry, but certainly not good, especially at the price. The server brought the check without us having asked for it. She brought the dessert menu, seemingly grudgingly, when we asked for it. None of the choices appealed to us, so then we did ask for the check. On it was a charge of $3.93 for SRV or SVC. The server had no clue as to what that was for. As we left we asked the host (manager?) about the charge. He said something about "taking care of the staff," and pointed to the open kitchen behind him and indicated that it was 3%. He could not explain what it was 3% of. When entrées run to $36, it would be nice to know why the staff cannot be paid from the charges for food and drink.

The casual, unhelpful service; the mediocre quality of the food; the very limited menu; the pushing of a not very clearly explained tasting menu at well over $100; and the tacking on of a mystery charge lead us, regretfully, to cross ClarkLewis off the list of restaurants we shall frequent.

Limited but very nice lunch menu--one of the few places where you can find an elegant business lunch in Portland. Servers who have been around awhile know what they're doing and welcome customer requests. Newer servers have been a little rough around the edges, but that's somewhat to be expected.

They need to bring the pork belly burger topping option back--the burger topped with pork belly is extraordinary and one of the reasons we keep coming back. It seems that they don't always order enough to have enough supply to offer it both on the burger and in their pork belly sandwich.

Parking is miserable in the vicinity, so be prepared to drive around for a long time to find any options for parking whatsoever.
