Enjoyed our time here on Monday, having perfectly prepared chef-inspired plates and chatting about the coming holidays. The wine list is lengthy and we enjoyed it thoroughly. A pinot blanc first, then into Tempernillo and eventual Sangiovese. Our server was very knowledgeable and it helped the flow a lot. My boss is a wine freak and was impressed. Food was delicious but the group of us shared a lot at the table. Essentially made it there for the end of HH, then stayed into the dining hours. Thank you to John!

My wife and I had a fantastic experience at Clarklewis. We had the Family style Chefs menu and we are already making plans to take our adult children there soon. The food was prepared perfectly, plated beautifully and served with a very helpful explanation of each course and it’s ingredients. The servings are large enough and not obnoxious we left full and happy. Clarklewis is right up there with Con Font as our favorite Portland restaurant.

Wowed as usual from Clark Lewis. The majestic train going by, the dim lighting, the incredible food... All very special aspects of the perfect evening in Portland with friends. We ended up enjoying everything on the table, particularly our romesco potatoes, which are perfectly spicy without being overbearing. Their coktail list is moderately good, but their vino list is where they shine big time. That charc board is sooo good! Keep the sausage!!! Thank you all!

It seems that this place is quickly becoming one of my favorite spots in East Portland. Seems like every time I go, there is a good scene, it's busy but not obnoxious, and the open kitchen creates a sense of togetherness which I love in a restaurant. The district itself is coming up. Tents and shanty houses along the drive, then a good few blocks leading to OMSI are a foodie paradise. I believe Clark Lewis was one of the first to dare be along Water Ave and I am glad they did because now it's a boppin' neighborhood. Enjoyed the happy hour menu, which is well priced cheeses, salads, and their eventual burger. We both enjoyed that burger to death. Will be back for dinner in the future....

We love ClarkLewis and this was an unusual off night. Our server was new and nervous and awkward, the bill was tallied incorrectly, the lamb papardelle was bland. But overall, it was a nice evening and we will surely return.

My date and I waited till the last minute to make our NYE plans. Luckily, Clarklewis was still available. There was a preset menu for the evening, but the choices were still amazing our dinner was lukewarm at best, but still very flavorful; & my espresso at the end of the experience was simply terrible. As a previous restauranteur, I understand the challenges of dealing with special occasions and the expectations from patrons on such evenings. We had hoped our experience would have been better, but it would not sway us from trying Clarklewis on a normal evening. We look forward to the next time!

We arrived around 6:00 when it was super busy but they were able to handle us, a large group from out of town. Food was great and service was two people for the large table, which we thought was smart. Manager John was a delightful energy. Thank you!

Delicious in every way. Service was great, very personal--food was on point, ordered mostly from happy hour but sprung for their cauliflower and lamb from the dinner menu. Lamb was perfectly spicy and not gamey whatsoever. Wine was also very nice. We wanted a night on the town that was more than just the PDX bar scene and we got it!

Very slow service with more than 50 mins between order and first course and more than an hour between first and main courses. First course soup was delicious but tepid when served. Second course was very good. Would go back but only if I heard that their service issues were improving.

Love the indoor trees. Keep them. It was cold the night we went. Loved the view through the glassed garage doors but would loved to have been 5 degrees warmer. The food was awesome!

Service was frenetic. Servers seemed almost about to run into each other all the time. We were mistakenly given a second amuse bouche. They almost gave us someone else’s drink. The rib eye was very good but came lukewarm so was clearly sitting on the counter long after it was grilled. Service was slow and quite uneven. Coffee was served without a saucer nor a spoon. Overall, pretty disappointing and won’t be back.

I understand that my review was for Christmas Eve, which is not remotely a normal night. But, there were some challenges with our evening that really impacted our enjoyment. First, we had reservations through OpenTable. About an hour before we arrived, I received a notification from OpenTable that my points had been awarded, which was odd since we hadn't arrived yet. When we got there, we were told there was no reservation for us (even though we had the reservation on our phone), but that they could still find us a table. They did, but it was in the back, in an alcove next to the brightly lit hallway leading to the building's interior. It was awful--really awful. Every table who sat after us in this area were very disappointed as well. We ordered cocktails. An amuse bouche was served, which was nice, but a spread on a single cracker broken in half seemed a bit rustic. Still no cocktails. Our first course came and went. Finally, we got our cocktails, about 3 minutes before our mains came. We had intended to order wine with our mains, but there was no point anymore. The portions were quite large, and the quality of the food was good, but my rib eye was way overly sauced/juiced leaving the vegetables super-mushy. We got no bread for the table (and didn't know it was an option until we saw all other tables having it). Dessert was great. Our waiter was awesome, though he had a lot of tables to work (which I get, it's Christmas Eve), or we would have addressed some of this as it was happening. Our overall impression of clarklewis was that the timing of service was off, that things felt rushed, that our lost reservation was likely a mistake (like maybe someone with a similar name came an hour before and they thought it was us), and that the back alcove should never have been used. We saw so many people around us having a better experience and that really put a damper on our evening.

Love Clark Lewis. Each time we are here the product they are putting out gets better. Train wizzing by, this place feels like a secret in the Water Ave area. Walking in, you see a great open kitchen, watching the chefs is really fun. Ordered peach and tomato salad plus the lamb with that smoked feta!! So delicious. Will be back again soon.

I'll be honest, there is a ton of great food in Portland and Clark Lewis is fine. Good food, our waitress was great. The greater staff are pretentious and aloof. There's no waiting and in an empty restaurant, they want you to huddle in the doorway. They are always like this too. I've only ever been there when the place is empty or nearly entry and they'll just ignore you until they feel like seating you.

The food was good, the drinks were good, sure they were overpriced like most of the places around, but we had a good time in the end. Our server (who climbed over/through a stuck train to get to work) was lovely. I'd never say don't eat at Clark Lewis, it's just that this is a foody town and there are tons of options. It's not a place where anything stands out enough for me to say "Oh my goodness you MUST go to Clark Lews." You know?

Best happy hour in SE! Popped in for my weekly craving of their duck proscutto, stayed for the cheese board, a few joiners, a few glasses, and their pasta deal. CL can be a little sleepy earlier in the day but as HH rolls on, it gets packed. I'm glad we got seats.

disappointing. Traditional thanksgiving dinner without stuffing and cranberry sauce? What a bummer. And the deserts were completely uninspiring.
I don’t have a problem with tipping 20-25% , but was totally irritated that I was charged a “Labor” charge and didn’t realize it until the next day. Either tell your patrons about the charge or just build it in to the overall cost. It’s your problem if you can’t pay your staff a living wage, not mine.

Our 10 year anniversary happened to fall on Thanksgiving this year so we opted to eat out instead of cooking. The hostess was very friendly when we arrived, but no mention of our special celebration was made. We were seated at a table right on the busy aisle, near the kitchen and servers station, so not a super intimate setting. The service was fine, but nothing special, and definitely not as friendly as I would have expected. None of the staff seemed to be enjoying themselves or interacting much with the guests.

Our 5 year old likes real food and wanted real turkey, not the turkey tenders on the kids menu, so we ended up paying $65 for his dinner, instead of $20, even though everything else was the same as the kids menu. The Brussels sprout first course was delicious, but a bit undercooked. The turkey entrees were good, in fact the turkey itself was amazing, but the online menu clearly stated family style sides to include root vegetable hash and cranberry sauce. We did not receive ANY family style sides. A thanksgiving meal without stuffing and cranberries is pretty sad. The sweet potato pie was good as well, but was a bit frozen in the center.

Lastly, there was a strange service charge on our bill. It wasn’t enough to be a tip, and we’ve never encountered this anywhere else. Overall, at $300 for two adults and 5 year old, it wasn’t worth it. We might try going again, but definitely not for a special occasion.

The flavors were well balanced in all or our dishes. I tend to first focus on the apps or salads as an indication of how the entree will be. The mixed green salad was very tasty and the presentations are very special.

The entree were good but not great. My salmon was pan seared with a crispy skin side. Due to the cut of the salmon the thin portion was a bit dry where as the thicker portion was rare. My last bite on the thicker portion I could not eat because it was mostly raw. My wife had the pork chop and love it ! All flavors were balanced and the chop had the perfect amount of meat to fat.

Our carrot cake desert was simply spectacular!!

A perfect evening out with the family, thank you to Clark Lewis. Enjoyed the cheese board with my wife, kids each were accommodated (growing foodies need love too!) and each of our entrees came out fast and fresh. I enjoyed the steak and my wife had the spaghetti. Honestly, the term "spaghetti" made us chuckle a bit at first, having kids and a personal definition, but this pasta was certainly not dumbed down. The environment is adult but entertaining enough for ages 9-14 to enjoy too. The butcher paper tables and drawing utensils helped with our youngest too. No drinks this time around but I'm sure in the future.
