Little noisy with cars along Water Ave. and train passing. Otherwise, really enjoyed the lunch offerings.
Great food but service was lacking as our server had gotten slammed right when we were seated so we had a long wait on him.
Great happy hr and dinner, drinks are wonderful and food was great too!
Wonderful service. Wonderful wine and cocktail selection. Food was fantastic. Farm to table with a bow tie on it.
Very accommodating to vegan diners. Love that! Love the ambiance and the service was excellent.
That train is EPIC! Every hour or so, due to CL being in the district a train will go by and honestly if it didn't happen naturally, I would ask that it be pumped on their Pandora. Love the vibe here, really calm and sexy, no typical Portland SNOOT, a lot of great suggestions and small plates. We didn't order entrees but will def get them next time. Kind of a small bites and apps night with drinks, perfect for that.
Only place on Water to get a decent glass of wine (and then some!). Dinner was very good, was able to walk to the docks afterward and catch the sunset.
Loved our visit to Clark Lewis. That Frisee Salad is giant and very delicious. Could have used a little more sweet potato under that lovely pork chop but wanting more is always a good sign! Excellent service at the bar, they seemed to be training a new guy who was super nice and made a really good drink. Delicious warm bread too! Will be back.
This restaurant has a very limited menu but the food, once we received it, was good. The service was poor in my opinion - very slow. This included not being able to place our order in a timely manor and time getting the food once ordered was very lengthy. It wasn’t very busy so there was really no good reason for any of the delay. Liked the ambience and industrial look of the place. Parking is an issue.
My husband and I did the tasting menu. It was a TON of food. Everything was delicious and it was such a great way to try a bit of everything they had to offer. We've been wanting to try this place for a while, but I'd held off because of the $$$ on Open Table. I was pleasantly surprised by how much food we got for our $$$. We also had two bottles of fantastic red wine. Probably more than we needed, but we were celebrating :)
The food was very good. I had steak and asked for medium and got medium rare. I was gonna say something but I had a few bites and it was amazing. The dessert was a Scoop and a Shot and it was yummy. The coffee after dinner was very well made. Please go and try it out.
Great food. Our waiter was a bit aloof and was pushy with serving the wine from a bottle we ordered. One of my pet peeves.
I might recommend this restaurant or come back if i understood why they had no Pork, Shrimp, Scallops. the only protein my guests and myself could get was chicken. I understand that occasionally restaurants are out of an item but, it seemed they didn't get their delivery that day 7/25/19, or the refrigerator went down? no explanation given just no on every choice we wanted. otherwise the food was excellent. not optimal for my business lunch.
celebrated a Birthday with friends.
Dinner was excellent.
Our daughter was married at clarklewis last November which was a fabulous occasion,
so clarklewis is a special place for us.
Wonderful food, wonderful service. High end food in a relaxed atmosphere. The beet and potato appetizer was incredible.
My first time there. It was a wonderful meal, one of the best I’ve had in Portland for a long time. And I like a lot of Portland restaurants.
Loved it. Food is amazing. Great service.
Chef made me an off menu salad w Prawns.
My husband and I dined here for the first time, and loved it! The drinks were delicious, the peach and burrata salad was phenomenal, and entrees were even better. I had the halibut, he had the steak (and added prawns). Beautiful presentation and tasted wonderful. Love the vibe of the restaurant. Service is great too! We'll be back.
Excellent! Each dish was outstanding - and generous - - cauliflower appetizer, cheeses, soup, pasta, fish, meats, vegetables- all prepared beautifully and perfectly.
Our attentive server wrote the name of each leftover on the top of the boxes.
They paid special attention to our request for a quiet table!
First of all the the food was very good. The reason I don’t give it 5 stars is because of the acoustics and the service.
The space is one big open room with high ceilings and a sort of industrial feel, which made it hard to hear each other across the table. On top of that, the roll-up doors were open and traffic noise was very loud.
The server was very polite and we were seated right away. But it seemed that he forgot about us after we ordered drinks and appetizers because he didn’t take our dinner orders until after we finished our appetizers. We actually had to flag him down to get his attention to order dinner. And then we had to wave him down again later to get wine. For the prices of the food and drinks and the “fine dining” presentation it fell a little short on service.
All was delicious and fresh
Nice atmosphere. But the steak we ordered was cold when we got it. The second time it came out the steak was overcooked and everything was just stopped on the plate. Starter was good though.
OMG this restaurant ROCKS! Bartenders are so nice and everthing was delicious.
Ambiance galore in this place. No lie, one of the prettiest restaurants in Portland, certainly the east side. Open garage doors, lifted from the street side, well placed design and bar area. It's hard not to fall in love with the space alone. Food is great, the chef sent us bread without even asking and the only thing we thought was a little spicy was the potato app. Still though, it was GONE in 5min. Entrees were well balanced and not only did the frisee salad dazzle but it was enough for the whole table! Entrees wwere the Tagliatelle and Pork. Meat was cooked perfectly and the lamb ragu was honestly the best I have had in Portland. Whew.
Too expensive. Food was okay but not great; and certainly not worth the cost.
Hello Roger, Thank you for the feedback. We support many small farmers and specialty vendors. Our prices reflect the quality of products and labor needed to produce the menu items many of our regulars enjoy. We also have a happy hour. Please join us during that time for items that are easier on one's pocketbook. We hope to see you again.
Sadly this was our third time here after having had a great experience the first time. This time for our dinner reservation we were seated in the Happy Hour part and the bar was noisy, very loud. We ordered a drink on the menu with Aria Gin and they were out of it. So our Beefeater Gin Martini was billed in two parts, $9 for gin and $2 for vermouth etc. Come on! The choices were not to our liking for entrees so we had soup, salads and a charcuterie tray. Of the three restaurants in this group we like this one the least. We have never been to Saucebox but we plan to go. We like Blue Hour and 23Hoyt much better.
Hi Restats! We apologize for being out of your preferred gin. Next time you are in, please let us know if you'd prefer a different table. We would be happy to accommodate. Our menu changes often, so entrees are likely to be different the next time you are in. I will speak to the chef about your other food comments and we do hope you will visit us again. Thank you.
We’ve come many times over the years and had good experiences. This time the service was spotty- she forgot the drinks, didn’t clear spilled food, was generally distracted. The food was unusually bland and unremarkable for the price. That said, we’ll try again- this could have been a one time thing.
Hello AlexanderP, Thank you for the feedback. It sounds like the day after Independence Day was not a good day for consistency of food and service on our end. We are sorry for this and hope you will come in and give us another try. I assure you we get it right most of the time as you referred to from your previous visits. We look forward to seeing you again. Have a great summer!
Service was great but the food lacked seasoning and flavor, toast on the bruschetta was burnt, and the meat was over cooked. I was really looking forward to this dinner with friends after having a business meal here a few weeks ago. Maybe the kitchen staff was off because it was the day after a holiday but when you spend $240 on dinner for four people the expectation is that the food will be better than meh.
Hi EmilyS, I will bring your food comments to the chef. From your review, I can see you had a previous great experience, but your last one did not meet expectation. We regret we didn't satisfy as on your previous visit. Our wood-fired grill does put a char on the bread, but your meat should have been delivered to you at temperature desired. Expertly prepared food is what we do and that should not have been the case. We hope you will give us another try. Have a good weekend. Thank you.
For the second year we went to Clarklewis for the 4th of July. They have a nice Pre Fix menu with wonderful options for our whole group. The food was wonderful, but be aware that the drinks are pricey. All in all, a wonderful place to sit back, enjoy a nice meal and a wonderful holiday evening.
We have always enjoyed this restaurant. They have a nice happy hour and a very well rounded menu. Generally, everything from salads to sides are great. Pasta dishes are a standout. Our one and only critique was a tough chewy skirt steak. Given the price point of entrees I’m rather surprised they even serve this cut. We each had one slice leaving the platter, commented to the server that our German Shepherd would enjoy it immensely. Server commented back “oh”. And that was that. And yes our German Shepherd has been enjoying these treats for the last couple days!
Great place to take out of town guest to. Great food, fun and welcoming staff, wonderful atmosphere. Halibut was fantastic
Loved having a bite and a drink here. Very modern space right on Water Ave, perfect for our meet up. My mom really enjoyed the cheese board and how interesting everyhting looked, I ended up with their steak whcih was cooked to perfection and mom got the Halibut(I stole some morels from her plate lol). All around very friendly and fast service too. Will be back tomorrow!
Thank you Mary! We hope to see you again very soon! -BCR
We have eaten here before and enjoyed the meal.
Although our server Lauren was fantastic, this meal was woefully inadequate.
We started with a roasted carrot dish, which consisted of flavorless blackened carrots. So black that we had to scrape the burnt parts off before we could eat it. This was accompanied by a very bland carrot-top pesto and a bland almond sauce. Super disappointing!
I ordered the Pacific halibut, which was dry and overcooked. It’s pretty sad when the bread and butter is the best part of your meal.
We will not be eating here again when there are so many other good choices in Portland.
Two people had to send their food back for being undercooked. Not worth the price
Anon, We are always mindful of when we let down a guest on a given evening. By the looks of your score, it seems we may have had an off-night, certainly not typical for the Clark Lewis family. We hope you would give us another try in the future and give us the chance to display our care for your desired temperature preference very soon. Thank you for your feedback! -BCR
Disappointingly meh. The presentation were visually jumbled, the dishes were improperly seasoned. We should have been warned when our waiter advised my wife against choosing her first choice appetizer. Both the kitchen and the menu need a shot in the arm.
Thank you for your feedback Lew! We are sorry we did not meet your expectations the night you visited but invite you to enjoy us in the future, as our menus and concepts frequently evolve and grow with the seasonal bounty. We hope to see you again in the future for another shot :) -BCR
Have dined at CL many times. This time a real disappointment. Service was very good but the food was not. Fatty meats and sides not complimentary to the steak.
