Best happy hour in SE! Popped in for my weekly craving of their duck proscutto, stayed for the cheese board, a few joiners, a few glasses, and their pasta deal. CL can be a little sleepy earlier in the day but as HH rolls on, it gets packed. I'm glad we got seats.
We had fun and it’s was a great experience because of a great staff
The warmth of the fire is so inviting when you enter and the farm to plate food delicious! This week the sour cream cheesecake is to die for!
Thanksgiving dinner with friends. Food was great—3 of 4 desserts were a little off. Wait staff kept waters full but little other interaction. No bread, no salt/pepper (though really wasn’t needed). Nice evening but very busy and fairly noisy
disappointing. Traditional thanksgiving dinner without stuffing and cranberry sauce? What a bummer. And the deserts were completely uninspiring.
I don’t have a problem with tipping 20-25% , but was totally irritated that I was charged a “Labor” charge and didn’t realize it until the next day. Either tell your patrons about the charge or just build it in to the overall cost. It’s your problem if you can’t pay your staff a living wage, not mine.
Love the food. Still too noisy though. I can see that they’ve made some efforts with sound dampening, which has helped.
We thoroughly enjoyed our thanksgiving dinner At ClarkLewis. Every part of the meal was wonderful, but we all agree that the service made the experience :)
Our 10 year anniversary happened to fall on Thanksgiving this year so we opted to eat out instead of cooking. The hostess was very friendly when we arrived, but no mention of our special celebration was made. We were seated at a table right on the busy aisle, near the kitchen and servers station, so not a super intimate setting. The service was fine, but nothing special, and definitely not as friendly as I would have expected. None of the staff seemed to be enjoying themselves or interacting much with the guests.
Our 5 year old likes real food and wanted real turkey, not the turkey tenders on the kids menu, so we ended up paying $65 for his dinner, instead of $20, even though everything else was the same as the kids menu. The Brussels sprout first course was delicious, but a bit undercooked. The turkey entrees were good, in fact the turkey itself was amazing, but the online menu clearly stated family style sides to include root vegetable hash and cranberry sauce. We did not receive ANY family style sides. A thanksgiving meal without stuffing and cranberries is pretty sad. The sweet potato pie was good as well, but was a bit frozen in the center.
Lastly, there was a strange service charge on our bill. It wasn’t enough to be a tip, and we’ve never encountered this anywhere else. Overall, at $300 for two adults and 5 year old, it wasn’t worth it. We might try going again, but definitely not for a special occasion.
The flavors were well balanced in all or our dishes. I tend to first focus on the apps or salads as an indication of how the entree will be. The mixed green salad was very tasty and the presentations are very special.
The entree were good but not great. My salmon was pan seared with a crispy skin side. Due to the cut of the salmon the thin portion was a bit dry where as the thicker portion was rare. My last bite on the thicker portion I could not eat because it was mostly raw. My wife had the pork chop and love it ! All flavors were balanced and the chop had the perfect amount of meat to fat.
Our carrot cake desert was simply spectacular!!
It seems that this place is quickly becoming one of my favorite spots in East Portland. Seems like every time I go, there is a good scene, it's busy but not obnoxious, and the open kitchen creates a sense of togetherness which I love in a restaurant. The district itself is coming up. Tents and shanty houses along the drive, then a good few blocks leading to OMSI are a foodie paradise. I believe Clark Lewis was one of the first to dare be along Water Ave and I am glad they did because now it's a boppin' neighborhood. Enjoyed the happy hour menu, which is well priced cheeses, salads, and their eventual burger. We both enjoyed that burger to death. Will be back for dinner in the future.
A perfect evening out with the family, thank you to Clark Lewis. Enjoyed the cheese board with my wife, kids each were accommodated (growing foodies need love too!) and each of our entrees came out fast and fresh. I enjoyed the steak and my wife had the spaghetti. Honestly, the term "spaghetti" made us chuckle a bit at first, having kids and a personal definition, but this pasta was certainly not dumbed down. The environment is adult but entertaining enough for ages 9-14 to enjoy too. The butcher paper tables and drawing utensils helped with our youngest too. No drinks this time around but I'm sure in the future.
Thank you all for making my sister's birthday so very special. Great selection of wine and knowledgeable folks serving us. John the manager is so funny. Will be back very soon, my steak was excellent.
Highly recommend the chefs tasting menu. It was incredible and such a good price for all the food you get to try. Will definitely be back.
Another lovely time at Clark Lewis. I think their HH pastas are my favorite feature on the block. Will be back!
Love Clark Lewis! Servers here are engaged, suggestive, and pro. Great menu and ambiance too. Cant wait to go back!
Enjoyed our time here on Monday, having perfectly prepared chef-inspired plates and chatting about the coming holidays. The wine list is lengthy and we enjoyed it thoroughly. A pinot blanc first, then into Tempernillo and eventual Sangiovese. Our server was very knowledgeable and it helped the flow a lot. My boss is a wine freak and was impressed. Food was delicious but the group of us shared a lot at the table. Essentially made it there for the end of HH, then stayed into the dining hours. Thank you to John!
The noise was overwhelming. At our intimate table for four, we literally had to shout to be heard by our dinner partners. Food was pompous, especially that cauliflower stunt. The meat was not cooked as ordered, and instead of replacing the serving, the kitchen seemed to have zapped it and sent it back. Very disappointing, a sad slide from where this restaurant once was.
The pork plate rocks!!!
The food is good, the service is snooty. Parking at lunch is very difficult if you don’t want to pay $6.
We reserved but had to wait 20 min for a table. The room was a dark industrial conversion probably more suited to summer dining. The bartender was excellent but our waiter was completely unengaged. Food was okay, but expensive. For the price I would have expected something more special.
Ambiance galore in this place. No lie, one of the prettiest restaurants in Portland, certainly the east side. Open garage doors, lifted from the street side, well placed design and bar area. It's hard not to fall in love with the space alone. Food is great, the chef sent us bread without even asking and the only thing we thought was a little spicy was the potato app. Still though, it was GONE in 5min. Entrees were well balanced and not only did the frisee salad dazzle but it was enough for the whole table! Entrees wwere the Tagliatelle and Pork. Meat was cooked perfectly and the lamb ragu was honestly the best I have had in Portland. Whew.
Great food, service attentive, bar full of goodies! Business dinner of 12 went well and without complaint.
Overall good restaurant. Cool interiors and creative menu. Only issue was that we had asked to leave off one ingredient (that is added at the end to a dish) and server assured us that it would be no problem to be served without it. Unfortunately the dish was served with the ingredient and I realized it only after had an allergic reaction.
We did the fixed menu. There were three of us and we had plenty of food and a wide variety, all scrumptious. Great value as we would have spent that much and not had the variety of what is on the wonderful menu. Lovely service as well. and wonderful ambiance.
It was our 33rd anniversary and it couldn't have been better. That is, it was perfect.
Wowed as usual from Clark Lewis. The majestic train going by, the dim lighting, the incredible food... All very special aspects of the perfect evening in Portland with friends. That charc board is sooo good! Thank you all!
Thoroughly enjoyed Clark Lewis. Sat at the bar with "Max" and he was able to suggest some delicious options for us, including the Tagliatelle and Lamb. We enjoyed their wine list and promise to be back for a cocktail when we are feeling like it's a spirits night :)
Honestly a little sad to write this—I've been to CL many times, and had a range of experiences (including, of course, some positive). But this was a really bad night. Our server disappeared for more than 15 minutes at a time. We finally gave up and asked someone else for the bill. The original server finally brought it with no apology, no attempt at recovery, no ... anything. $100 not well spent and I do hope they improve, because it's a wonderful experience when it works.
The food and service were good, definitely would go again.
We decided to go to dinner late, so we were among the last diners. The waiter and everyone were most welcoming and we never felt rushed to move on. The food and service were amazing. We’re so thankful to have been able to have such a wonderful dinner on short notice. Thank you ClarkLewis. Will definitely visit again the next time I’m in Portland.
Food was cold and the Lamm was very bad!!
Overall we had a negative experience for a table of 7
We really enjoy the farm to table food here!
Excellent service. Delicious food!
Great food, innovative and healthy. Amazing service very attentive
We had business associates visiting from Brazil and Germany. I have had business events at Clarklewis in the past and they always deliver with fresh and exciting fare. My guests were both impressed. The shrimp that was served on the summer pasta was some of the best I have ever had. The combination of tomatoes and mushrooms with the pasta was delicious. Great place for business, a special occasion, or just treating yourself after a hard week.
We decided somewhat last minute we wanted to go to dinner at clarklewis because we were in the neighborhood. It was a great place for our “date night” but there were some groups there too. We enjoyed cocktails and appetizers first - probably one of the best charcuterie boards I’ve had in Portland (and I’ve tried many!). I ordered pasta and it was great. My husband said his steak was OK but wasn’t a fan of the verde sauce. Our server took great care of us and we will definitely be back!
Happy Hour was a very good call. Just came down off the volcano and ate early for $ 58 for 2 with drinks.
As a party of 4, we ordered the chef's tasting menu and were treated to some excellent food. Fabulous fresh ingredients, prepared well and plated beautifully. We started with the seasonal soup that combined unusual flavors (tomato, coconut and watermelon) into a memorable dish. The salads, pastas and entrees were also excellent. The portions were generous and each of us got to take something home to enjoy the next day.
I had dinner at clarklewis with a colleague from out of town. I wanted to show her a different area of Portland that would showcase local fare. On those points, clarklewis delivered. Our mains were delicious; I had the halibut and she had the salmon. Our starter, the roasted cauliflower, was quite underdone. The service was good.
We had a party of 6. I think we each ordered something different and everyone loved their food. Our server was top shelf. I had not been here before but I loved it. The setting was very nice- casual but cool. I’ll be back and I’ve already recommended to colleagues.
I got the halibut and husband got spaghetti. Both were imaginative and really delicious. Ambiance was cool.
