Our server Scott was excellent. Very accommodating and patient.
Very nice menu selection of farm fresh/seasonal inspired ingredients. I love unusual dishes you don't see every day on other menus. Fresh halibut was fabulous but the sides were super small and I don't have a big appetite. My partner had house make spagetti that was drowning in a strong pesto sauce but made up for that with all the fresh veggies stirred into it.
Mother’s Day brunch was delicious! Would come again for brunch, happy hour, dinner, or any occasion.
We did the prix fixe menu for Mothers' Day, and the food was great - except for the cakes they offered for dessert, which were both very dry. The service was a little inconsistent and I felt we overpaid for what we got. Overall, the food was good and the space is gorgeous, and I would come here again for a work lunch or a date.
Loved the vibe within the restaurant. Our server was very friendly, but the other staff was very quiet and not as welcoming. The food was terrific and the restaurant was clean and enjoyable!
One of my favorite places in Portland
Service was sub par starting with calling the restaurant to inquire about parking after not finding anything near the restaurant - I was told there were five spaces reserved out front and the person on the phone didn't have any idea besides "there are spaces in back maybe?" Once inside and seated it took five minutes for someone to ask us if we wanted water. Another five minutes to get the water and then another 10 plus minutes for our lunch order to be taken. And it continued. Beyond no customer service or care for customers at this restaurant. Maybe they're spreading the wait staff thin to save money. Who knows.
We had a lovely dinner for 13 people and had great service. It was a warm day so all the windows were open to the street which had a lovely ambiance, but the train noise was a little loud a couple times during the evening. The food was great but not outstanding. A solid experience but didn't knock our socks off.
Great menu with fresh and interesting combinations. Love the creativity and the blending of flavors with fresh and tasty ingredients. Very attentive service on a busy night. The train noise is a bit distracting, but it didn’t detract from the overall experience. I have been to this restaurant several times and I can say it gets better and better.
The staff was terrific and the food was delicious.
Service seemed a little slow, with the time between courses greater than normal. The food was good, and I really liked our server. One thing bugged me: I never scrutinize my bill, but for some reason I did, this time, and found that the restaurant adds a surcharge on the bill, like a tax, only it goes to the restaurant. That is cheating, frankly. Let your prices reflect what you need to charge for the meal. It’s not like they forbid tipping. This is just an extra profit center.
Thank you for your opinion on how we have responded to state mandates, which include yearly $1 an hour increases in min wage. The small service charge you mention is written on every menu, bill and receipt. It is not unannounced nor is it "cheating". Whether these costs are in pricing or as a service charge, it is passed on to the consumer as in any business. Many restaurants in Seattle, San Fran, Van B.C. have moved to a similar service charge instead of raising prices. Hope to see you again.
Our server was extremely attentive and the food was yummy. it was absurdly loud; it did not feel intimate. The kitchen was a little backed up, but we didn’t mind. We had bread and salad while we waited.
Thank you for the review and patience. Hope to see you again.
We have eaten here few times with good results in the past.... this latest trip was a family birthday dinner on a busy Friday evening. Once the server took our order we waited over an hour for our meals to be served. We saw other tables be seated, eat and left while we waited. Once the food came is was very good and luckily still warm. The staff did comp some drinks and desserts. We won't be back.
Good Morning Datenight, We are very sorry you had this experience. It was not a typical service for the restaurant. There was an unexpected absence of a key staff member in the kitchen which affected the night. This was the reason for the long ticket time. It affected more than one table. We can assure you this is not normal. We will private message you as well to try to resolve this to your satisfaction. Thank you.
Much improved. A pleasurable dining experience. We had not been to Clark & Lewis for several months and were very positively impressed. Whole new attitude on the part of everyone there.
Delicious food. Relaxed, modern atmosphere. Attentive staff. A non-fussy foodie treat.
Thank you Haugebear!
Disappointed. Went for Easter Brunch. Over cooked scones, polenta. Fatty beef. Service slow, mimosa tasted like tang.
The duck was nice.
DianeZ, We are so sorry you didn't enjoy yourself. I will look into your food comments and discuss with the chef. Please visit us again. We would like the opportunity to make it up to you. Thank you.
Food was very good but it was over priced and the service was terrible
Hi Kten, What meal period did you dine with us? Brunch? Dinner? We apologize that service did not meet expectation. I would like to look into it. Easter Sunday was very busy and it sounds like that it may have played a factor in your lackluster service. We hope you will give us another opportunity to win you over. We can and typically deliver an enjoyable experience. Thank you.
Food was awesome, waiter was outstanding, but the noise factor is a negative.
Thank you KellyD1961!
My partner and I were in Portland for a long weekend celebrating our 2 year anniversary. A work friend recommended Clarklewis to us and we were elated that we did. Our server was fantastic and entertaining. Very professional. The food and ambiance was incredible! We highly recommend Clarklewis.
Love the clean healthy food that tastes wonderful. The service was terrific also.
The food was excellent and the service was too. Noise level was great. not too loud. This place is definitely on my must list for when I am in Portland
Had a great birthday dinner. The service was great and the food was amazing!
Long wait for food. Wait staff not overly friendly.
Easy, central location often works when meeting people from around the metro area. Reservations suggested...we were seated promptly upon arrival. The food was phenomenal, service a little less attentive than past experiences, however, it was a Friday night and the place was pretty busy.
Great place to bring "foodie" guests from out of town and easy spot to catch a ride after dinner to theaters on the west side of the river or Moda Center.
We had two Vegan/Vegetarians at the table and we were accommodated very well.
Went during Portland Dining month and although it can sometimes feel like people are secondary diners coming in for the value, the staff was right on board with the service and food quality. Excellent choice for our night out.
I love we love the food here. We keep coming back we tried it last year during portland dining month and it was the best of all we tried so we eat here regularly. Come Sunday nights for the car show on Water Ave
We celebrated our 45th wedding anniversary with the tasting menu and it was awesome. The wine pairings were perfect too. Our server, Bradford, was excellent—attentive but not hovering. The first course was a cauliflower soup and bread, second course salad and potatoes, third course of two different pastas, fourth course duck and steak, fifth course two different desserts. The chef does an amazing job of creating delectable dishes with so many different flavors without a mismatch. I haven’t described the potatoes but they were sooooo good. The basil pasta reminded me of Michael Chiarello.s Cal-Ital Tra-Vigne recipe. It seems like a Northwest inspired menu with a twist of Portugal, Argentina, Italy thrown into the mix. Definitely check this place out. It’s located in an industrial district in SE PDX in a building that was formerly a loading dock. My husband loved the setting and we both enjoyed the food very much. Thank you clarklewis
Friends and I were there on Sunday afternoon, as they opened. The server was friendly and helpful but our food took an unbelievable time to arrive-even though we each ordered the Dine Out March specials. Food was tasty but nothing exceptional.
The "car rally" noise from Water Ave was exceedingly loud, even with the doors rolled down and it was difficult to converse. All in all this was a bad experience and we can't help but wonder if our Senior Citizen status didn't contribute-others appeared to have a pleasanter dining experience.
A little basic. I had been excited to try it after hearing about it since I moved here 13yrs ago but was a little disappointed. Everything tasted good, but wasn't very exciting.
Came for Portland Dining Month. Favorites were the carrot bisque, salmon, and all the dessert!
Half our party took advantage of the restaurant’s special for Portland Dining Month. Their house cocktails were sublime and their food was very good too, well until we got to the last course. I was very let down by their super dry old cake. I thought, really? If an 8 yr old kid would know better than to serve it, a freakin restauranteer should definitely know as well. If you are thinking, ‘You get what you pay for. $33 for 3 courses at this place is a steal,’ then I would reply that a restaurant is only as good as it’s last meal. We aren’t sure if we would try it again but I wouldn’t steer people away either.
We are both wondering what took us so long to check out clarklewis? Food was great - waiter was fantastic - wonderful from top to bottom.
We went for Portland dining month after getting good reviews from friend.....Clarklewis did not disappoint! Great atmosphere, our server was entertaining, food was amazing, wine was delicious....all in all, I would definitely recommend it and will be going again!
The food was great as always, especially the steelhead. I appreciate the great Portland Dining Month options. The biggest down side is the noise - we had a hard time hearing each other across the table. Otherwise a great night out.
The staff was amazing but the food was a little lackluster.
I had great food and service will go back again soon
The food was excellent!! It was my first time there & I will definitely go back. I did find the steelhead portion a bit small, but it tasted fantastic. The butterscotch budino with salted whipped cream was dreamy!
The food was excellent and so was the service except that tha check was too long in coming. The noise level was uncomfortable.
