Brought a friend visiting from out of town here to enjoy Portland Dining Month and absolutely loved it! We had a great waiter who I'm sorry to say I can't recall the name of. The vibe is very industrial chic and the 3 course menu was great with 2-3 options for each course. The cauliflower bisque is easily the best soup I've ever had and I left wishing I could get a quart to take home with me. Highly recommended and I will be back!
Word of mouth sent me to this restaurant and it was not wrong. Sitting on the river in a hip, warehouse-y area, the big open windows and chrome, lures you in. Décor is simple and restrained but warm. The kitchen sits right behind the Host Stand ... a hotbed of activity, smells, sights and chatter. You are captivated from the start. Seated and waiting for the rest of the my group, my server was warm, friendly and very knowledgeable. Cocktails were excellent and inspired. Fresh vegies, spices, flowers with homemade shrubs and tinctures. Hard to decide. Excellent apps - the beef tartare was stellar. Oysters, I found no better in Portland! My steelhead dish was cooked perfectly and rested atop pan seared root vegies in bite size pieces. There were so many things on the menu that I wanted to try, it was difficult to choose. We were not rushed and had a terrific evening. I will go back!
This place is my favorite restaurant in Portland! I love the food, cocktails, ambiance, and the service is always spot on.
Portland dining month experience. Everything we had was delicious. I’m not sure how chicken can be that soft. Good time.
Unfortunately the food was underwhelming. It tasted like the chef(s) was/were uninspired.
This was a dining month choice for us. Great risotto, chicken, dessert, house wine. Service was attentive but not hovering. Woodfire kitchen and open garage doors add to the ambience.
We had a great experience at ClarkLewis. We went in for Portland Dining month, and the food was fantastic. More than that, our server was perfectly attentive (and not too attentive), had great recommendations for wine, and was fun to chat with!
My husband really got the best deal: plenty of bread to eat, which I couldn't have because of gluten intolerance, a huge salad, and a big bowl of tagliatelle pasta with lamb ragu, which he really enjoyed. I, on the other hand, went with the March Dining Month menu, and my choices left me hungry! The soup, entree, and dessert were all delicious, don't get me wrong, but the servings were tiny! After a day working in the yard, I needed more food! The soup was served in a shallow, small bowl, and the fish entree needed something additional... the plate was 1/2 empty. The dessert portion was just fine. When we went to the symphony afterwards, I bought a bag of chips because I was still hungry!
Another great meal - the carrot bisque was delicious, the chicken and steelhead perfectly cooked - crispy on outside and moist on inside and the butterscotch and chocolate dessert finished off the meal beautifully. The house white was a perfect accompaniment for the meal. It is a noisy space but otherwise lovely.
Incredible carrot soup. Impeccable service all around for a very nice meal experience.
Great ambiance and service. We opted for the dining month menu and everything was good. We will go back
excellent dinner, service, and value! love portland dining month!
Pleasant surprise to find out it was restaurant week and took advantage of the special three course menu. Wonderfully paired and priced. A fantastic experience overall...
One of the most delicious meals I've had in a while.
Overpriced, poorly prepared duck was accompanied by an unattractive, almost inedible pile of cubed vegetables. The plating was odd, at best. Half the plate was empty with a drizzle of red sauce and the pile of vegetables and meat slices were on the other half of the plate.
We felt cheated from the start because of the way it was plated and the jarring combination Of bitter vegetables did not complement the duck.
Our server, who was part of the bar staff, was very pleasant but we will not be back to dine. This is our second failure at this restaurant
We attended clarklewis restaurant with three other couples and enjoyed a great Portland dining month meal. It was our fourth visit to the restaurant and we will be back.
The food and the service were outstanding. We went for Portland Dining Month and were not disappointed. We had the butternut bisque, beet salad, steelhead and risotto. Everything was perfect. My only suggestion is that for food this delicious, the presentation of it did not match. But, we were very very happy with the meal.
Food and drinks were excellent. Noise level was too high.
The steelhead was cooked perfectly and melted in my mouth. The salad was fresh and crunchy but lacked the advertised beets. A small dish of beets was immediately brought to the table. The dessert was chocolatey and smooth. The white wine paired beautifully with the fish. There was a mistake on the bill which was fixed right away.
The food was absolutely delicious. Portions were small for my male companions, but they all agreed the flavor was there. I really liked our server and she did her best to make sure we had what we needed, but drink delivery was a bit on the slow side. We dined onthe Portland Dining Month menu, and the butterscotch foam dessert was one of the best desserts I've enjoyed in the last year.
We had a great experience in conjunction with Portland Dining Month. Everything was so good!
We made a reservation and although our table wasn’t quite ready on time the staff was ready for us. They had the bar. Learned so we could talk and have a drink while we waited for our table and everyone was incredibly friendly and helpful. The food was superb- particularly the carrot bisque, lamb ragu, butterscotch whip, and lemon bar... just amazing.
We went to try it taking advantage of Portland's dining month. Service was good (although they forgot an entreé). The local it's just ok, feels like it could use some more life in it (some ambiance light, some colorful pictures...). Quite noisy, not sure why was that, but it was hard to talk with your partner, maybe some low volume music could work?. Those are all minor things because the worst part was the food. The cheese plate was ridiculous, risotto was hideous, the rest laked flavor. If they were part of the dining month to try to attract new clients they have failed tremendously.
We went during Portland Dining Month which featured a 3-course pre fixe meal. We chose two different menus and shared them, beginning with a delicious mixed green salad with roasted beets and feta, the super creamy and flavorful carrot soup, followed by seared Steelhead cooked to perfection, juicy roasted chicken, and capped off by a large lemon napoleon and lightly sweet butterscotch budino (pudding). Everything was perfectly delicious. Service was quick. The space is rustically industrial and,\ because of high ceilings and lots of hard surfaces it's pretty noisy. Don't let this stop you from going, though.
The scallops were exceptional! Very fresh, tender, tasty, Melt in your mouth. Delicious
The vibe was wonderful! The menu and food, fantastic! It was very busy and we waited each step of the way (first drinks, first course, second drinks, etc) but our server was on it, chatting with us, working to keep us informed and comfortable. Really loved the overall experience and look forward to visiting again!!!
Food was middling at best. Very disappointed. Plus we had so many people serving us that I was never sure who was our waiter/waitress.
We went here for the 3 course dinner for Portland Dining Month. Easy parking, could hear each other speak and the meal was delicious. The brought our desert before our entree but that was laughed off. We didn’t care.
Lovely evening, food amazing!
Wonderful food! Great Service!
Clarklewis has a great happy hour, but we took advantage of the Portland Dining Month to have a full three-course meal. I had the chicken, two had the steelhead, one had the risotto. All were carefully prepared and well presented, and all were good values. The carrot bisque was very pretty, with artistic decoration, but more importantly, it was tasty, with a good balance of carrot and dairy flavors. Rustic, house-made bread, and room temperature butter, were provided at no charge. The wine list has many local pinot noir wines, but a decent selection from Washington State and Europe as well. Highly recommended.
Wonderfully prepared and presented. Delicious. Great service. Lovely experience.
Poor service, poor food. Portland dining month here was a massive waste of money and energy to celebrate my husband’s accomplishment. I’m rarely so disappointed in a meal or experience in Portland.
Portland dining month selection was a delicious carrot bisque followed by the smallest serving of fish I’ve ever had from a restaurant . The lemon bar from dessert was hardly edible it was so dry. The waiter apologized for the delay of the food by comping our cocktail. Very disappointing food.
Awesome as always!
For someone with food allergy issues, you'll have to navigate the menu a little. The server was very helpful about this. It was a little cold by the windows but the server tried his best to accommodate us as much as possible. The food is tasty and they have a decent wine list. CL is worth the trip!
Ordered chef’s menu for 3 and paid fixed price for 3 but each course clearly for 2 (i.e. only two pieces of meat or fish). Food itself not memorable. Have not been to Clark Lewis in a year. Quality has clearly declined. Will not be back.
There is nothing like the service at Clarklewis. Excellent wine suggestions. Timing of entrees was perfect and gracious. Likewise, the food was, as always, fresh and inspired.
If you want average good food and lots of it, you will like this place. We got the tasting menu and expected something different I suppose.
We really enjoyed our server, but I failed to remember his name. Atmosphere was wonderful, food was delicious.
I would definitely recommend.
