Foods are fresh and good value.
They never looked at the reservation to see that we were celebrating a birthday. Yelp has my experience written out. Overall it was poor, and we will not return.
I have been here 4 times and each and every time the service has been terribly slow. When I am with my kids, I prefer to go to places that can get things going rather quickly. This past time, it was a leisurely dinner so we didn't have to rush. However, we were there for 2.5 hours and that is mostly because there was 1 server and it was his first day. One server called in sick and the chef was making drinks, cooking food and helping the brand new server. I realize that this could be a one off but my friend who I was with said the last time she was there, it was the same exact situation. It took forever for us to get drinks, order our food and get our food. We sat at 7 and probably ate at 8:30. The chef and new guy were very nice but some people don't have 2.5 hours to hang out. Or some people are really hungry and need to eat ASAP! 3 of the 4 of us enjoyed our meal and thought it tasted good. One didn't love hers. Overall, it's a cute place and sweet people with good food but the service needs to be stepped up big time. Like either have a bartender and 1 server or have 2 servers and have some back up plans in case someone calls in sick.
The food in CK is delicious! We’ve been there 3 times and it is one of the better restaurants in Alameda. Service was not good. There was no ceasar salad available, and it was only 6:00 p.m. Our entree was served with the comment that our appetizer “was coming.” We cancelled it. The waiter explained he’d only been there 4 days. The pot roast needed some juice or light gravy, but was reported to be delicious and a very ample portion. The other diner liked his sand dabs and I loved the large scallops with fettuccine in a lemon butter sauce. Months ago I had the cippoline and it was magnificent! So we would recommend CK Restaurant, but they have a long way to providing a seamless dining experience.
They seemed like nice people but the place was completely empty and there was zero vibe - no ambiance. The music turned off and we were just hearing ourselves talk. The food wasn't great either and the server was brand new.
Food and presentation were not strong enough to overcome the disorganization and understaffing that seems to keep this from being a success. There appears to be attention to small details while ignoring the basic need of honoring reservations, recognizing online requests and adjusting for walk-ins. Business model needs re-evaluation.
My wife and I sat down and waited almost 30 minutes for the menu. The staff were overwhelmed due to the crown. Obviously they are not prepared for Valentines Day crowd. We decided to leave as other patrons were complaining of the long wait for food. It is unfortunate that the management didn’t have the experience and sufficient staff for the occasion.
Absolutely horrible!! Reservation at 6:30
And hour later NO ONE had come by our table
Line out the door of reservations waiting - NO food on any table - not one person had been served the hour we were there
Got up and left
Understaffed and not prepared for large crowd that showed up. Some left after waiting for a table. We made reservations but no one checked. Those with later reservations had to wait. Food was good along with good value for tasting menu and glass of wine. Need to get spring for front door so it will close by itself!
CK is new to us. We were greeted by a friendly employee. They were a little slow, but is was worth the wait! They have only been open since October last year so still working out some kinks. Our food was great, good portions for the price and the wine was a good value. The staff was all very helpful. We will go back again!
I’ve been to CK’s 4 times. The food is always delicious, but don’t come here if you are in a hurry. They are always apologizing about being under staffed, but they are super kind and appreciative. 75% of my visits, there has only been 2 people working — one in the kitchen and one in the house. The chef delivers the food and sometimes even takes orders, when the server is busy with other tasks. Honestly haven’t been disappointed about anything we’ve ordered — appetizers, burger, lamb shank, duck confit, pasta. It’s just a lesson in patience — good things come to those who wait.
Hard working team putting out delicious food.
Seafood is super fresh and cooked to perfection! Will be back for the halibut. Pretty extensive menu. Great new spot. Wine list is so so and ambiance could use some help- weird 90s music and stark bright lights, but they are a fairly new restaurant so I think they are still nailing out the details.
Such excellent food with very un-stingy portions. The bone marrow is amazing, as is the duck confit.
Wow! I don’t want folks knowing how great this dining experience was last Sunday night. They may fill up the open tables.
Food and service was amazing!
Kinda of bizarre
Excellent neighborhood restaurant on Webster Street in Alameda, a newly decorated, nice room. They serve comfort food with a flair. The shrimp scampi was very cheesy and the steak cobb salad was tasty.
this restaurant is very pretty and welcoming The food was delicious and well presented The menu is heavy on beef several steak choices but there are several vegetarian choices The service was great even to the obnoxious client who sent his meal back 3 times !! at our next table
The food was hit or miss and the service was poor.
A few of the dishes were good (the steak, lamb and fish tacos) and some was mediocre (the wedge salad was not a wedge and lacked flavor), and the short ribs and burger were pretty bad. The fries looked like they were frozen from a bag.
The waitress seemed new so there were a few minor flubs (wrong order, incorrect bill) that were totally forgivable. But, the biggest issue we had was that the food came out at widely different times. In fact there was an hour between when the first main was served until the last one was brought out. And there was no apologies for it. There was only one waitress and one cook in the entire restaurant, so we understood why, but for the price we were paying, the service should have have been much better. There were only 4 tables occupied the in the whole two hours wee were there, so it’s not like it was busy.
Food was good. Service was bad
We’re new to Alameda and enjoyed our meals very much. My son had the tomato soup and loved it, which is quite a bit since he can be pretty opinionated. Thank you.
I've tried CK Restaurant 3 times now. The first time was when they opened, so I expected there to be "learning opportunities". The second time was much better as the food tasted up to par, they had their license to service wine and they had adequate help. In regards to my most recent visit, it was horrible. They only had 1 waiter and he seemed overwhelmed. The only thing he was good at was sitting at the bar playing on his phone. A couple walked in to sit at the bar and left after not being acknowledged within 5 minutes. The food was not up to par and the prices are somewhat ridiculous. I made a reservation, however it was not needed. We were the only people in the restaurant for about 2 hours. It's obvious that I missed the memo on what others had already discovered, which is for CK Restaurant to close their doors.
Restaurant was half empty on a Sunday brunch, however there was only three people working in entire restaurant. Two servers and one chef. Service was painfully slow. It took a while to get seated even though we had a reservation, because the servers were buzzing tables which was ok. But it took the servers 20 minutes after we sat to great us while they noticeably kept away from eye contact. The bar was half full of used dishes and dirty glasses. Then they tell us all drinks are made with wine juice, there is no liquor. We left.
Sunday brunch; Food was great but the regular coffee not great and the hot chocolate was overflowing and making a mess, service not so great, waiter seemed overwhelmed even though the place was barely half-full. Music was great (80’s), but way too loud for anyone’s taste for brunch music, got turned down later, luckily. Overall ok, but not great.
We came for an early dinner, so the hostess was amused that I made reservations. Regardless, I hate long waits, so I always think it safer to make a reservation.
I've been to CK once before, but that was for brunch. I was impressed with the food, so thought it was time to try dinner. The food was impressive and beautifully displayed. We started out with salads. The Caesar salad was average. I only order it because it had anchovies, but it wasn't anything special. I wish I had what my daughter ordered: the beet and farro salad. It large enough to split. She raved about it.
I had the prosciutto wrapped prawns over mashed potatoes with peas and a pea puree, as well as a carrot puree. Beautiful and very tasty. My daughter had the salmon with a pureed cauliflower, I believe. She practically licked her plate clean. My husband had the grilled prawns, probably the least impressive of the three, although still delicious. He thought it was too rich.
For dessert (of course!), we had the mango panna-cotta. Delicious! If it's rich, it's deceiving. It tasted so light. Let me live with my fantasy! I'd order it again.
CK is one of the nicer restaurants in town. It makes a great date night dinner, but also a friendly neighborhood place, especially with the bar. I hope to visit again soon!
Had to wait far too long for a cup of tea. It arrived once all the food was cooked.
Food tasted very good and was nutritious as well.
Staff were all very nice
The slow tea was a big deal to me; the wait was just too long.
Did not have menu items in stock. Did not cook food fresh. Incompetent service.
Webster Street is "coming into its own" as fine restaurants and businesses move in. CK is a great example. The food is incredible, and while the wait staff was overburdened when we were there, everyone was very pleasant and working very hard for all of the customers. You must go if you haven't been there yet! The Impossible Burger is heavenly.
The inside-out wagyu oaxaca burger was soooo tasty! It looked small at first but it was very filling. The cheese was the perfect amount of melty. We shared the brussel sprouts and it was a huge serving but we devoured it. I was disappointed that I got too full to finish my fries because they were great too, greatly salty and crispy (I usually don't finish fries anywhere).
Definitely one of the very best in Alameda. Sophisticated flavors, great service and fair price. Well done!
Great little neighborhood restaurant. Food was good but need more seasoning. Great selection of vegetarian food.
The restaurant location is tough. They are on Webster street but for whatever reason this spot can't get traction. The space has changed users several times. This restaurant is trying hard and desires to make it.
The food is good, the service is good. I have been there three times and like what I order and have a good time whenever I have been there.
Food, service and value were great. Acoustics in the restaurant are odd, though — not the restaurant's fault, but there was a table of drunk business people being pretty loud, and it carried across the entire dining room.
We dined at CK with two other couples. We all very much enjoyed the restaurant and the food! The wait staff allowed us as much time as we needed to talk and catch up before ordering and we appreciated this very much. Once our orders were taken, the food arrived in a reasonable amount of time (but not too fast) and first we noticed that the presentation of all of the entrees was lovely as was the taste and quality of the dishes. Ample portions and very good service rounded out the evening. Only one complaint: We didn't notice a statement on the menu that they charged an automatic 18% gratuity for parties of 6 or more, so in splitting the check three ways, we each added a 20% tip to our individual bills. After arriving home, we noticed that the receipt indicated the 18% gratuity charge - so the staff got very nice tips that night on our party, which is fine. It would have been nice for them to point out that the gratuity was already included as none of us noticed this fact on the bill at the end of the evening. We will go back, overall very good experience!
I’ve heard really good reviews from friends. However, I was not happy with my meal. The prawns were very very dry, the pasta was dry. Sent back, reordered beer battered fish which was undercooked. The Panna Cotta was good. The waitstaff was pleasant. If friends ask, I would let them know I didn’t have a good experience but understand others have. I hope you do well, my intent is not to hamper.
It was great!
Wonderful service. Beautiful presentation on each plate. Nice glass of wine but limited choices
We had a lovely family dinner at CK Restaurant before a show in Oakland on Saturday night. We had the Roasted Bone Marrow with bacon jam and Steamed Mussels for appetizers. The Bone Marrow was rich, and a little fatty, but incredibly delicious. And the Steamed Mussels in the coconut curry broth was perfect. The curry broth was mopped up quickly with our breads. We also had the burger, grilled prawns with fettucine and the risotto -- all were yummy.
We will definitely be back!
