Great food and friendly service
We had a wonderful waitress but as restaurant got busier she seemed to be the only person taking orders. The food was so so for brunch. We absolutely love the food in the evening but brunch needs work. Love the venue but daytime needs some work.
The ambience here was great and all of the food was fantastic. We had these mushroom mozarella balls and they were to die for. My short ribs were fork tender. Great decor and will be back to catch a show next time!
The appetizers were great, but our party of five was underwhelmed by our entrees.
As always great to take time with nice dinner before going in to listen to your special event for that evening. Overall service from James in restaurant was very good prior to us going to see English Beat.
Went there for the first time on Monday to see a concert and have dinner. Haven't stopped telling our friends about the wonderful experience. We already have tickets for another show and plan to have dinner. Had no problem parking and was a very easy commute from the South Suburbs.
Always a great date site for food and entertainment in a relaxed atmosphere off the beaten path. Sound stage had problems though which were a bit annoying, but Cross was good at managing the distraction
Always a delight anytime of the day! The food never disappoints and the ambiance is warm and inviting.
Went there with friends for Easter Sunday gathering, the place wasn’t busy and yet it took an hour to get drinks and when we finally got our food they had messed up several of our orders. The server was not very polite or attentive. Needless to say we won’t be going back again!
Changed their lunch menu. Selection is less now. Parking horrible. Didn't offer valet. Had to leave without eating because my friend could not find parking but received full bill.
Celebrating a milestone at work and we were 1 of 3 tables in the restaurant and the service was abysmal. We had one person in our group order soup for her entree. We asked repeatedly about her soup and got many versions of its coming. The soup did arrive after all of the rest of the 16 person party had eaten and several had already left to go back to the office. It was an unfortunate experience for a celebratory lunch.
Always enjoy the food. Compliments to chef. Margaritas are pretty good.
Absolutely Awesome food and service was fantastic. The variety of wine is amazing and the staff is very informative as well knowledge able of the wine selections. If you go please try the scallop with carrot puree it is delicious and you really will be upset that you only get two.
we took our family there to celebrate my mom’s birthday. It was a brunch and the brunch menu is very limited. Having eaten there before and enjoyed the food, I was okay with the limited menu. This time, The food was just OK. The frittata, chicken and waffles and crabcakes were all pretty tasteless. My son did enjoy the brunch flatbread, but We would’ve had a more enjoyable meal at the local pancake house which is kind of sad . our server was very nice. Unfortunately all they could do for a birthday dessert was a scoop of ice cream with a candle. I had hesitated to bring a cake because it was a “nicer” restaurant But I should have just brought it. but I should have just brought it.
our server (DAVE) was great - he knew the menu, good recommendations, was at our beckoning call with food and beverages - we had a blast before Doyle Bramhall II show - highly recommend - especially if you are doing a music gig there.
No waiter came by for 10 minutes, so we left
Cocktails, wine and food were all good, but nothing special. Service was good, although our waiter, while he did his job just fine, seemed like he would rather have been anywhere else. Probably wouldn't make a special trip to the Barrel Room if I didn't have tickets to the music venue aftwards, but if you do have tickets to a show, the Barrel Room is not just convenient, but has a warm ambiance and good food and drinks at a reasonable price. We'd go back if we had tickets to a show.
Appreciate the menu change but service is not up to par. We ordered several small plates for sharing before seeing music. We ate in the dining room, not the music hall. It wasn’t busy in the dining room, but the servers did not refresh plates as new appetizers arrived. We had to ask for replacement silverware that was removed. Given the many dining options nearby, I will likely eat elsewhere the next time I see music there.
We usually enjoy having dinner at CW before seeing a show there, so as not to eat during a performance. On Sunday night, 3 of our party of 4 received our entrees, and the 4th meal didn’t materialize until after we had finished ( and shared our meals), had paid the bill and were headed into the show. No reason was given for how or why this happened- but the forgotten diner was offered a complimentary dessert, as if this were a substitute for his entree. Our waiter seemed to think that as long as the meal arrived at some point, he’d done his job, though he completely blew the order. We will definitely think twice before eating there again, which is a shame, because the food, if you get it, is delicious....
Our services could have been better. We had to get his attention to much while we were there. He I didn’t check on is as he should of. Once we said something to the person who brought out food , then he did a little better
The food was good the wine was great, but the server was terrible. Ordering from restaraunt week menu it shouldn't take 2 hours to have lunch. We were the only table but server came and left for about 15mnts until another table came, he then took there order first. We opted for paired wines, he brought ours and other table out together and described the wines to both tables at the same time (who we weren't with) by yelling across the 5 tables between us. We had to track him down for almost every plate to be served.
Third visit - always before a show in the cabaret theater - always very good - always a treat. Will return!
Overrated place and expensive for the inferior quality.
A cool and unique spot but the service was very "distant" and not very "warm"
Excellent food and service. Very accommodating of large parties.
Nice atmosphere. The wine pairings with the meal were excellent and a good pour. Great place to go for dinner before a concert in the back of the restaurant.
We were seated for 20 minutes without a server or anyone greeting us. It was like as if we never existed. Very disappointed in the service. Won't be coming back and we live only a couple blocks away.
Went to City Winery for the first time during Chicago Restaurant Week to try their brunch menu. Showed up around noon on a Saturday and there were only a few other occupied tables. The menu was decent and the food pretty good but the service was extremely slow. The host told us all about the restaurant week menu then seated us, then our waiter told us about the menu again for some reason. I would go back again to try their regular menu and maybe during the evening.
The food came out extremely fast for our 8 person party. Our server was accommodating, but seemed less than thrilled to serve our group. Overall, a good place to meet a group, but will not be back.
Very good service,great environment,ok appetizers
Good selection of wines.
Not a good experience. We reserved a high top table and we were seated late at a regular table next to the window which was cold and drafty so we all kept our coats on. The waitress was pleasant but very unattentive and our food took a very long time. I ordered a spicy burger that was suppose to have feta cheese on it, but it mistakenly had goat cheese on it which I don't like at all. They did replace the burger for me at no charge but it took a long time and my friends were all done with their meals before it was served to me. They offered a free dessert for us to share to make up for the trouble so we picked the chocolate cake which took a really long time to get and it was dry and not good. Never again!
Date night with my and my husband. Had wanted to try this place. Super disappointed. All good was cold. Service slow. Barrel room was messy and didn’t present well. Cool venue. Will try one more time in better weather and on a different night.
Reviewing for brunch service only - it was easy to get a reservation for a big group on a weekend and the service was pretty good. The food was marginal with a few good dishes and a few misses (bagel on the bagel and lox, bun on the breakfast burger, bloody marys).
I wouldn’t go back unless I had a big group and couldn’t find another reservation on opentable.
Perfect atmosphere for a date or group of friends. Warm and inviting. Great food ! Highly recommend
Great time — we’re very down to earth and not picky, so it wasn’t a huge deal, but we were blown away at how little of a personality our server, James, had. Wasn’t pleasant to be around by any stretch. Hopefully, he was able to turn that around for the rest of the night!
Love City Winery.
Beautiful space. Exceeded my expectations. Bartender was knowledgeable and attentive. Server in music venue was excellent.
Great service! Excellent experience! I'll be back!
City Winery is great- we attend often. The restaurant tends to lead into attending the musical venue you purchased tickets for. We were there afternoon of 1/1/18- good food, however, restaurant did not verify the reservation we had made for 3pm. At this time, think Open Table has confirmed with them and adjusted my reservation. Also great night for show with BoDean's.
Having dined at City Winery several times, I find it necessary to point out my disappointment. Normally, the servers there are extremely attentive. Last night, it was just so-so. Our waitress never checked to see if we needed another round of drinks. We had to literally grab her as she walked by without even glancing at us. Our dirty dishes remained on the table even after I requested and paid for the check. And one of the best things on the menu, the duck tacos, are now a self-serve item. Who came up with that idea? It’s really silly to have a make-your-own taco. The table is already too crowded. Why make it even more difficult? I’m sure we will dine at the restaurant in the future, as I very much enjoy their concerts, but I felt the need to report on this very disappointing experience.
Holiday girls lunch.
