A very cool spot in the city not overrun with tourism. something to eat for everyone from meat lovers to vegans. the bartender that created our craft cocktail the Boston & Maine came over to our table and introduced himself and explained how he created the cocktail. would definitely go back.
I never write a bad review, but this restaurant has so much promise but was so disappointing. The hummus plate said it was with “pickled vegetables”, which turned out to be raw onions and nibs of cauliflower and carrot so small you couldn’t pick it up with your fingers. Service was so slow at 5:30 with a nearly empty dining room - the appetizer and entrees arrived at the table at the same time.
The seasonal fares risotto described as having all these lovely summer vegetables showed up as a grey, mushy, oily mess. The kitchen has got to be able to do better!
Overall would probably not return for a dinner. Will have to see if the winery tour or activity is better. The service was sporadic and unorganized and the food was mediocre at best.
What a waste of money! Food drinks and service all terrible
The service has done a 180 and I really look forward to coming to City Winery now. The new team is amazing and food is so much better.
I was not able to skip the eating portion to write a comment so that is why I gave 1 star for most categories. I made reservations for 1045 and changed them to 11pm. We got there before 11 and were told the kitchen is closed. Nit sure why any a e would accept reservations if they are not serving food. It would ha e been nice to know that inead of going out of the way to go there, an email or phone call- anything. Very poor customer service.
Good - great wine
City Winery may be a great before/after concert venue, however it needs work as a stand alone restaurant. I was eager to see this venue and made reservation for my friend group despite other similar reviews.
If you are a foodie, I'd go elsewhere where the food, service and ambience are the stars. While our server was pleasant, she was not terribly knowledgeable about the wines made on site or the menu. Food arrived mis-cooked and while CW comped us, it was a disappointing culinary event, if a great venue.
The place looks great but they're a long way off from being worth the even moderate price tag. We ordered an appetizer - it came out with our main meal. We ordered coffee (brunch) but couldn't find our server to get a second pour even though we were only one of maybe three parties in the entire establishment. I ordered a $10 side of sausage and got two tiny Jimmy Dean sausages that were cold - maybe worth $1.50. The tuna melt I ordered was cold, cheese all hardened, and the piece of tuna looked like it was sitting out on the counter for 5 days. My girlfriend's french toast was pretty good but I'd be impressed if they managed to also screw that up. Definitely my worst experience at a restaurant in the Great Boston area in 2+ years.
Had a wonderful time here! A friend and I went for Sunday brunch and the food was excellent. Really great menu. It was extremely quiet, which I believe was due to the nice day and the nearby popup location. I will definitely be back! The staff was wonderful, and Austin was friendly, personable, and helpful.
Was very loud. Service was only fair. Steak was fatty. Wine was good.
First time here , we had a reservation . The coffee wasn’t brewed , we never got refills , on water or coffee until i asked , we were catching up so took us a few moments to even look at menu and the Servers would come over checking on us until we were ready. But once we ordered our food and it was delivered to our table we didn’t see a server and I had to ask for refills on coffee and water. The food wasn’t Tasty at all and it was cold. The sausages were under cooked potatoes and eggs had a lot of seasoning that was very overpowering . The bathroom needs some extra care .
Wish there were more people around! Pretty dead for a summer night
Pros: City Winery has great food for brunch, lunch, and dinner. Drinks are fantastic and the bartenders are super friendly
Cons: Don’t sit at a table. Service is slow on both busy nights and slow brunch mornings. Go right to the bar for the better service and phone chargers supplied underneath the bar top.
Meal was great, except the soft taco shells on our duck tacos were incredibly dry, close to inedible. Great drinks to help wash it down though!
Food was good but nothing special for the price. Not much variety in the menu. Did not leave feeling like I definitely wanted go there again. Server was pleasant but a little slow.
It was overall a good time. There was a mix up with the bills at first and it looked like I was charged only 60.59. When the waitress brought my bill back it said 83 and changed as charged. I was super confused. After they explained it was a mix up but I was also disappointed I was not told avocado and bacon were extra on my burger. I was only asked if I wanted them on my burger not knowing I would be charged. I said both would be great and the burger didn't have bacon. not realizing I would be charged I thought it was no big deal and didn't say anything. After finally getting the right bill after the mix up I saw that they had charged me for all of this. Wish the service all around was a little better. I liked the food though and the wine and atmosphere was nice. I may go to one of the popup events but idk if I would return to the restaurant itself.
I stopped in for a bite before the Celtics game. The service was quick, and the food was pretty good, so on that basis, no complaints. I was surprised to find very few wine choices, given the name of the place. The ONE chardonnay that was available by the glass was really sweet...not what I expected. More like a reisling. I won't be back for the wine, but perhaps for the music, or a quick bite before a game at the Garden. I think they are missing an opportunity here...just my two cents.
This is a really fun spot. We tried several different items and they were all delicious. They have 2 club venues that sounded like a great time. Definitely going back and will stay for the entertainment!
Food was really fresh and tasty.
Really enjoyed it. We had four going to Celtics, and the server knew and respected our time deadline. We shared a variety of very good plates, and it worked out great. Going back tonight pre-Celtics.
We arrived early for our reservation and were seated on time, but almost 30 minutes passed before we even saw our server for the first time. The dining room was not busy otherwise (oddly so for a Saturday night) and there seemed to only be one or two servers for the large space. The service overall was extremely slow and the dinner (no apps) lasted almost 2 hours. I wouldn't recommend this spot for dining, especially if you are trying to get to a game or show on time. The wine is great, but I wouldn't treat this as more than a bar.
It's ok if you're in the neighbor or seeing a show there. The food was good and reasonably priced. I was waiting alone for my companion, and the waitresses checked on me once in 45 minutes. By the time I decided to order, I couldn't get her attention for 15 minutes.
went with a table of 8. there was a show they weren't prepared for so our food took over an hour to come, the waitress didn't communicate anything with us, and when things did finally come out it was one at a time and either not cooked to over cooked. The only positive interaction we had was with a bus boy who was friendly and apologetic (so thank you to him) The general manager finally came over and I made him comp half our bill, he didn't offer I had to ask. Would have walked out...
The restaurant was not crowded; however, we waited two hours for our brunch and it never came. We ended up leaving without having eaten. I’ve never been to a restaurant and had that happen before.
This is actually the perfect place for pre-game Bruins dining. The space has a quieter side but you can get a little rowdier at the bar. There is plenty of space for everyone and it is a clean establishment. The wine was great from their carafe menu and we ate just enough in the right amount of time to walk over and see the puck drop.
Enjoyed a meal of small plates. Spaghetti squash was amazing with some Pinot.
Great service at the bar with our friends prior to the Celtics game.
Been to the Winery twice in the last 2 weeks before a TD Garden event. Love the $1 oysters 5-7 pm.
* Convenient to TD Garden
* Food and wine are good.
* Dislikes ... very noisy environment, service is slow, and waitress not attentive. one evening had to track waitress down 2 times. They missed one of the items we ordered.
Booked reservation for the Fleetwood Mac concert. Apathetic hostess pointed to “our table” across the restaurant and relied on us to find our way. There was no empty table and we had return to the host stand to try again. The food and drinks took a long time, as apparently three bartenders called out sick. The food was good, but silly errors included incorrect wines and a butter wrapper in the chowder. The server, Austin, was very apologetic and kind and encouraged us to come back.
Food all came out at different times, one plate came out a full 30 min after everyone else’s. Some food came out incorrectly, and all plates were different temperatures. The actual food was just ok, definitely not worth the price. The server was sorry and told us we would get a free round of drinks but it was still extremely expensive for what we got. Will not being going back and I definitely DO NOT reccoment
Everything was great, splitting checks was a little difficult...the bartender was awful. We ordered a jamo and ginger and was told that they didn't carry jamo even though there was 3 bottles sitting right on the counter. Then we ordered 2 shots and the bartender couldn't figure out how to make and then charged us $60 for 3 items that we're made incorrectly.
Bar service was very slow , food lacked flavor. Wine that is made in house over priced small serving . Just OK
Nice place, great ambiance, good food and wine, but they were really understaffed and it resulted in a less than optimal service experience. There was no one at the check in desk when we arrived, and after waiting five minutes for someone to show up, we finally corralled a waiter to go and find the person who could seat us (we had a reservation). The waitress was very kind but she had too many tables to cover. The bar was also quite slow filling our drink orders which was not her fault. Overall, it was pretty disappointing,in line with other reviews I’ve read on the place.
We've gone to a couple of shows at the CW. The first one we ate inside the concert area. The food is pretty good, although somewhat over priced for the amount you get. The service was slow. The next time we went back we chose to eat inside the restaurant - which by the way has more food options. However the service inside the restaurant are wasn't much better.
Nice venue to see a concert, a little tight - however the service needs to improve.
Ordered appetizers and they came out at different times because they said they were backed up. We ordered appetizers to go with each other and pair them with friends to try. We then waited over a normal time for a second round of drinks because attention at the end of the bar seem to not be important. We then go ahead to order dinner and again items come out at different times. The flatbreads came out and did not meet the description on the menu and was so chewy and not fully cooked that unfortunately we sent it back. The wait staff came over from the bar to explain to us that the flat bread chefs are backed up as well and that’s the reason why it came out like that. Beyond disappointed and in absolute shock that that’s how they explain the poor service to customers while spending hundreds of dollars at this restaurant over so many great ones in town.
Btw, we asked for the Bruins and Celtics game to be turned on and they explained that the cable service they use is bad. C’mon service customers like you care and want them back not as a final visit.
Great experience. Apps were amazing. Dinner was awesome. We will definitely be back to try other great items on the menul
We went before the Kelly Clarkson concert Friday night and had a fabulous time. Our waitress was amazing. Gave great recommendations on wine and was very personable and attentive. The food was to die for! Can't wait to go back.
The server didn’t collect our menus, any empty plates or glasses and barely came to our table. We were out of drinks and water for most of the time there. We had to bus our own table and chase down other servers for help the whole time. Very disappointing. We went early to get wine as well at the bar and the staff made it very awkward and acted as if it were weird that we were standing to have a drink at the bar before dinner. The food was okay. It was my birthday dinner and it was overall a terrible experience. We couldn’t wait to get out of there.
