City Tap is one of my favorite places in DC for brunch. The food is always very delicious and the portions are quite large for brunch entrees. The Big Chick, Chicken & Waffles and Croque Senorita are amazing as are the pizzas. The service can be hit and miss, but the bottomless Mimosas and build your Bloody Mary bar make up for it.
I met my girlfriends here for dinner and drinks. We ordered a bunch of different items for the table to share...everything was good but not memorable. My favorite was the honey and goat cheese pizza :)
Just ok. Could have been better
The food is top notch and our service was exceptional. When we were seated a a small table, our server, Sheila, went out of her way and moved us to one that was more comfortable. She was attentive and even though it was her first week, found out everything so we could order appropriately. We were from out of town and glad we chose this restaurant.
The steak was perfect with fries and the simple salad is enough to share.
Should be noted this is a sports bar, we went on a weekend when a college football game was on. We were seated right next to the bar and could barely hear each other. No ones fault but take into consideration not going for an intimate evening or request to be seated farther back in the restaurant. We were seated and at the table for 15 minutes and no one acknowledged us or even brought us water. The restaurant area was not full and there appeared to be a lot of staff running around but we were ignored. We considered flagging someone down but since it was so loud we decided to just leave. No one noticed us leaving so we didn’t tell the hostess. Can’t comment on the food since we didn’t stay long enough to find out.
The atmosphere is refined with a killer location in Dupont. Our table ordered off the brunch menu and lobster specials. The lobster was tough, the potatoes were not cooked well enough and the corn was over cooked. The brunch offerings were great, except the bacon was not consistently cooked between the 3 different meals, some soft, some crispy.
The server was unresponsive and rude, she was unable to remember the specials for the day, she was not willing or able to refill drinks regularly and she made belittling jokes about any questions our party had about the menu. The manager did a very good job recognizing our table was not being taken care of and assisted with making sure we concluded our brunch and was cashed out properly. The manager cashed us out after we waited for our server to return for about 10 minutes. The server then returned to take our bill which had already been settled more than 10 minutes prior. This all would have been manageable for a diner, but definitely not what we expected for spending a couple hundred between a table of 5.
The service was amazing and managers were able to accommodate requests very kindly. Some of the food items were AMAZING like the seared tuna appetizer and the giant pretzel appetizer, but a lot of the entrees (during brunch) were REALLY disappointing like the pizza!!!! It was called "margharita pizza" but looked like a mini little ceaser's pizza and was chewy and just gross- I heard the table next to us who ordered that too complain about it as well (I recommend removing all pizzas from the menu) and I got the crabcake benedict- nowhere on the menu did it mention peppers or celery which I was really not expecting and don't like. Also, wasn't english muffin, was a huge piece of toast that got soggy from the toppings.
I had such high hopes for this place. Online, it said you could get unlimited bellinis.... something that, once there, the waitress said was impossible.
Food was decent, but the service was atrocious. Our server didn't understand ordering an appetizer and coming back for the rest of the order, and we waited for her to come back around for about 40 minutes. At one point, she made eye contact but kept on walking away!
The drinks were the best part of the experience. The strawberry basil lemonade was wonderful.
My sorority sisters and I checked out the city tap restaurant! All I can say is AMAZING ! The lobster phenomenal! Key lime pie to die for . Bottomless mimosas BOMB ! Come check them out!
Appetizer was burnt, entree was cold. I felt very rushed, the waiter didn’t ask if we wanted a second beverage or dessert.
While the food was good, the service was terrible. The waitress mainly ignored us - looked over our heads when speaking to us and spilled our drinks all over the table when she practically threw them down on the table (which she also ignored- even though I said something and subsequently walked over to the bar to get napkins to clean up the mess she made). The only other time we saw her was when she handed us the bill. She then left my credit card somewhere (“oh, it’s over there”) when she brought back the payment slip.
Pizza was decent, ingredients seemed fresh. Wish they offered a bit more food variety but what they had was good. Super friendly bar staff, great local beer selection. I will
Definitely be back.
Many excellent beer selections. Service was excellent, food even better.
Had the wings and hamburger. Both outstanding.
Went to City Tap House for the summer Sunday drag brunch. I wasn't expecting much from the food, but it actually was quite good (even though my meal came out more warm than hot). Service was also outstanding, which I had not been anticipating based upon some reviews I had read previously. The drag show itself was fun and for free, an unbelievable deal for entertainment as you eat.
We were a group of 7 & tried almost everything on the menu together. Every item was delicious, service was excellent, and we love the vibe of the place. We had a great time here.
Great drag brunch!
Friendly well intentioned service.
Great beers on tap.
Food was all a bit flat.
Food was great. Bosco was the man. Service was fantastic
City Tap House's menu is perfect for people with diverse food preferences. The service is always responsive and cheerful. The food is good and nicely presented. The Tap House Chopped salad, the citrus salad, and the burger disappeared without comment-- a great sign of enjoyment. It's a very good place for work lunches-- it's got a good vibe but is not too noisy.
I brought my parents here for brunch and we enjoyed a wonderful meal. The Prosciutto & Fig Pizza, Prime Burger, Big Chick, and Ten Spice Wings were all superb. We didn’t partake in beer this time, but I have in the past and their beer list is excellent. My only qualm was that some of the TVs were playing an infomercial for skin care for some of the time we were there, and it wasn’t the most appetizing thing to watch. Then again, we didn’t request it be changed, so I can’t complain too much! 5/5, will dine again.
Dominque was fantastic! It was too noisy for a friend's child so he found us a tucked away spot that was not in use. And he turned out to be one the, if not the, best servers ever! Highly recommend.
Grey spot for dinner!
Food was not great. Margarita pizza was basically a cheese pizza w a few basil leaves. Not good.
the food was very very good and we had excellent service!! I recommend the Brussel Sprouts and the crab Mac n cheese!!
Fun place with good food and excellent service. Very loud though on a Thursday evening, but to be expected given the overall ambiance
Lunch with colleagues
Amazing food! Great service and cool vibe, will definitely return!
First time at City Tap, we went for Sunday brunch. Food was pretty good. Met Harry (mgr?) who was great to walk around, checking on tables and chatting with the guests. Will definitely come back!
Went with friends to City Tap’s first drag brunch. We had a blast! Food was great (all the other drag brunches are just buffet). Highly recommend!
This was my third time to have Sunday Brunch at City Tap House in Dupont. The food is excellent and quite tasty. The Big Chick, burgers and pizza are amazing! The service on our first two visits was also very good. Sadly, on our third visit the service was quite disappointing as our server disappeared for over 30 minutes and we had to flag down another server a few times to assist us. Hopefully this was just a one time thing and will be better next time.
Decided to dine here for Sunday brunch after seeing a sign advertising a Drag Brunch. Always wanted to attend one, so thought would give it a try. Wow! So glad we decided to go. Made a reservation for Sunday morning and when we arrived, the host wanted to confirm that we knew it was a drag brunch. Thought that was funny. We were seated along the wall on the far left. That was my only regret, as when the performers came out, they spent most of their time on the right side of the restaurant. We had a blast, none-the-less. The performers were great! Beautiful and talented (I wish we had taken photos, but weren't sure it was allowed) The food was excellent. I had chicken and waffles (yum!) my friend had the vegan burger (also yum). Even my lemonade was delicious! Large portions, nicely seasoned and wonderful presentation. Well worth the money. Very friendly and upbeat waitstaff.
I would definitely go here again for regular dining. Highly recommended. Restaurants in that space haven't had a lot of longevity. I hope this one stays.
Tough night. It was 90 degrees outside and the AC was not working properly. Our server - her first night working there- was overwhelmed by our party of 12. After some requests, they did send someone over to help, but it was more efficient for us to just go to the bar and get our own drinks. Food was good, though it took a while to get. Not sure I’d return.
Food and service were great. Only issue was the chicken wings needed more seasoning and heat.
Great options for those with gluten allergies!
Way too hot with Windows open on a 90F day. Everything else was good food and service.
The mussels and blue crab Mac and cheese is the best thing on the menu
Innovative and tasty, with a broad lunch menu. A very good choice for lunch in an expensive city.
Our waitress, Sarah, was extremely rude and inattentive. She clearly was not interested in serving our table. She chatted with other tables, but not ours. She took our orders and didn’t even take our menus with her. When my friend’s food took forever to come out, only to be cold, Sarah was unwilling to offer her any accommodation. The manager on duty was also rude and unhelpful. I am very disappointed as my first experience there was so pleasant. This time, it was such a let down.
Food was off the charts good. Service was great. Drinks were very well done. Downside was the seating. As a party of two, I prefer not to be squeezed into a small table when space allows. Given we made a reservation and were not a walk in, I was taken aback when we asked for a different table.
Please do not let the seating detour you from the wonderful fare. We will be back.
