I found this restaurant by googling "festive places to eat at Christmas" The photo of the adjacent "City Bar" clinched it for me and my friends and I were not disappointed. We were concerned that the location might not be conducive to conversation but it was fine. Our waiter was very friendly and attentive, making a few trips to the bar to see if our drink requests could be accommodated (one could and the other was an excellent substitution.) Three of us got the special which was handmade pasta with scallops, lobster, asparagus and cherry tomatoes. It received rave reviews from all three. The fourth member of our party had the scallops and she also loved them. We split a piece of carrot cake because we were all too full for our own dessert. Again, it was delicious. It's on the pricey side but not outrageous compared to other Boston restaurants. Walking into the lobby of the Lenox Hotel (where the restaurant is located) was so festive. There is a fireplace and sitting area that was decorated beautifully . It was a perfect holiday gathering among friends in every aspect.

Food is mediocre and they are pumping in a heavy perfume smell into the restaurant and hotel lobby which was not very pleasant.

Very late lunch or pre-concert dinner at 5 PM. Despite the odd hour, City Table was hopping. Only complaint was the rude reception when we arrived at 4:45 and were told to wait in the the lobby for 15 minutes... attitude adjustment issue. Fortunately a kind man offered his chair (seating is very limited) in the lobby to my date, who can't stand for long periods. The lobby was gorgeously decorated for Christmas with a lovely (best fake I've seen) fire and a very 19th c. English/Dickensian style. Returning to the restaurant, we had an excellent dish (cod) and a mediocre one (extremely tomato-ey bouillabaise, light on seafood) as well as a nice dessert. I will return at least once for top location, attractive decor, fair price.

Really like this place however as this is the second time I have been here the service, especially at the beginning can be spotty. Waited 10 minutes for a server to ask about a cocktail and there was no one in the restaurant.

The women of our clan were on a getaway with our Mom/Mother-in-Law. She is struggling with some health concerns and we wanted to make the weekend special. City Table did not disappoint. We had a great meal with warm and generous service. She felt like a queen and we had so much fun. I love the Abe Lincoln painting. We had breakfast there as well and it was delicious. Warm and welcoming.

Every dish we ordered was excellent. When the waitress got one of the orders wrong, the manager immediately came over and apologized - and we were not billed for the correct dish which came a few minutes later. Will be happy to come back

The food was really bad. I had the cod loin, which came with roast potatoes, spinach, and lobster claw. Cod itself seemed fresh, but lacked seasoning, literally no salt or lemon..the lobster claw must have been frozen and was tougher than a $2 steak. Never have I had to saw a lobster claw and chew on it like a piece of gum. Potatoes were good. Dish as whole needed seasoning.

My girlfriends meal was also a disaster. Salmon with roasted tomato “salsa” (basically spaghetti sauce) and some other sides. Salmon was over cooked, they seared the skin but put it on top of the vegetables skin side down so it was just soggy.

Service was not great either. Waitress took a long time to check in and finally asks us for our entree order. Food runners also mixed up the tables three times. Kept bringing our food to the table next to us and theirs to ours. This could have been the waitress fault for writing the wrong ticket number or whatever.

Avoid this place at all costs. Maybe go for a drink at the bar but don’t waste money on the food.

After first walking in, my husband and I were happy to be at City Table. The atmosphere was just what you'd hope for on a Friday evening. Unfortunately things went down hill from there. Our waiter was not very attentive, and when my husband's steak came with a sauce on top that wasn't noted on the menu he was less than happy to have my husband say he couldn't eat the steak as is. Because of the slowness of the service I ended up eating alone, and we had to find an alternate dinner location for my husband. This certainly wasn't what we had hoped for in our evening out. I was disappointed that management didn't even bother to come over to our table to apologize for our dissatisfaction. Would I go back? I'm not sure. I might, but my husband never will.

We reserved a table but when we arrived we were told that there was a party in the main room so we were put in a small section off the bar. It wasn't what we had in mind, since it was my daughter's birthday, it felt like we were in the middle of the room without much privacy. The table was also very cold, as it must been under a vent.

Just awful. Was here for brunch on Saturday. Ordered the fluffy pancakes which were definitely not fluffy, more like a mouthful of dough. Friend ordered the duck hash, portion was very small and horrible quality. Definitely not worth the price. I informed the waiter that the pancakes were not good and he removed it from my bill right away. Will not be returning. I can't believe this place has 4 stars on OpenTable.

We were there for an after event cocktail in the evening and the service was superb.
The next day we were there with friends for brunch and again the service was quite good
and although it got a little noisy, it was only a slight distraction to our conversation.

Ate here late morning for brunch before a Sox game. Service was just Ok. No problems or glitches but also not overly prompt, attentive, warm. Food was solid. Duck confit hash was excellent (if you like that sort of thing). Cuban sandwich gets pluses for the spicy pork but minuses for too little cheese and pedestrian bread. Would recommend/try again but would also look elsewhere in an area of the city with lots of choices.
