City Oyster & Sushi Bar Ratings and Reviews
The food was excellent. Happy hour incredible! The bar tenders were great. The waitress was fabulous. The problem was that we requested an outside table, called and explained that my husband is hard of hearing and we really needed an outside table. Went over an hour early to get an outside table. Plenty of outside tables when we got there. Hostess never called us when it started to fill. Went to ask her again about 15 minutes before our reservations and she said there would be one available at our reservation time and she would text me. Went back 15 minutes after our reservation time and she said it would be a long wait for an outside table but she had a table near the window. She squeezed us in between two very noisy parties. The man at the next table gave me a dirty look because my chair was on top of his. My husband went to ask to be moved further inside to a booth against the Wall. When the hostess saw him she nastily yelled that there is a long wait for an outside table. He Explained that it was much too noisy and tight where we were and pointed to an empty booth. She reluctantly moved us. This evening would have gotten 5 stars if it wasn't for this.
Probably not going to return. Although we’ve enjoyed excellent service in the past, our waitress was not helpful. In addition to forgetting to bring the bread (until after our entrees we’re already served), when I inquired about my salad and why it wasn’t served at same time as the other salads, she said “it will be out later.” When I asked for it a second time, she said “it’s coming.” When the entrees were served, my kale salad (which was ordered separately from my entree), was served on the same plate as the mahi mahi entree (which was ordered as an entree in and of itself). When I called the error to her attention, she complained that it was the way the kitchen prepared it. I explained that I did not want it this way and she did nothing about replacing it nor would she admit her error. Overall, her attitude and arrogance was unsettling to all of us at the table.
We were disappointed. Great reviews so we expected an excellent experience. Was not the case. Salad had too much dressing, local snapper was rubbery and had to be cut with a knife, pasta special was ordinary. Long line of people waiting for a table, but we would not return or recommend!
Planned a business dinner for myself, my new manager and a colleague....all from out of town. We had a meeting the next morning. Since we all liked Sushi we shared a number of the sushi rolls. They were all fabulous...creative and tasty. I would definitely go back again. Noise level, energetic...that was the option that OpenTable offered. I would say loud myself, though my hearing stinks in environments with lots of noise. I doubt there was a good restaurant in Del Rey that was quiet on that evening. I would have liked the sidewalk tables better but we were seated inside.
Our meals were delicious, but the service was lacking and not up to the usual very good standard. We had to remind our waitress to get an extra place setting, and she seemed very distracted . She forgot to bring the big crackers to go with our oysters. We love the lobster rolls and oysters and we will absolutely come back.
Good service, good menu, pleasant atmosphere.. Was there for a birthday celebration, we left the card you sent us at home and unfortunately the manager would not take our word for it . He wouldn't check the account or look at my wife's license to verify her birthday. :(
Service was great. Food could be better. Ordered Alaskan king crab legs - they were just “ok”.Ordered crab lump cocktail for appetizer, it was served in the same silver little cup that the cocktail sauce is served in- presentation of appetizer left little to be desired.
Wanted oysters, preferably small ones, only offered large oysters - oyster bar?
I must say it wasn’t the worst but considering it’s always busy I expected more. Probably won’t eat there again, as there are so many other restaurants to chose from on North Atlantic Avenue.
This place is a mess. The food is good, especially the sushi, so I don't want to hate on whoever makes that.
But we made reservations, via Open Table, a week early. We waited 45 minutes after our appointed reservation time until we were sat. What's the point of a reservation?
On top of that, I watched the hostess get pressed by a drunk couple, who wouldn't take no for an answer and had no reservations. I don't know if she knew them or not, but she ripped a piece of paper off the reservation board and wrote their name, then sent them to a seat for two. While I waited 20 minutes after my reservation. ANd then tried to act like she didn't do it.
Then once you get seated, the waiters and waitresses are all friendly and stuff, but there's seemingly hundreds of them, stepping over each other, doing nothing really. It's supposed to be extra service, but you wait forever to get an order taken and five different people bring out five different things. They should've just had everyone waiting tables cause it was all hands on deck.
Anyway, too bad, I've had quieter work lunches here that were delicious. But this experience was chaotic and unpleasant. It's typical of Delray and everywhere down here this time of year. The out of towners act like such cattle anyway that everyone herds them that way and the locals get caught up in the wash. Makes me not want to frequent a business when I see them empty in July. Serves them right. Time for locals to get priority service rather than the vultures who come down and ruin the place for three months.
