City Kitchen Ratings and Reviews
I had Thanksgiving lunch at City Kitchen. The place was packed. The food was only okay. I think its hard to control the quality of a buffet and should have known better to think a buffet would be acceptable for Thanksgiving since I don't like buffets any other time of the year.
The Thanksgiving buffet was not up to City Kitchen's normal quality and standards. I'll continue to eat there for other meals but wouldn't go there again for a Thanksgiving buffet.
City Kitchen is a tried-and-true standby for before or after movies, performances, or plays. The service is nearly always very good, staff are friendly, portions and prices are reasonable. Easy parking is an added plus. The bar menu varies from the regular menu, so you should also give that a try. We had the shrimp bisque, Greek salad, and risotto. The food, drinks, and wine were all very excellent. I don't understand why they keep giving tomato paste with their nice bread (why not some olive oil?), but that's their thing.
Our server was great but.....
Did not like bread & “tomato paste” spread
Flatbread was not a crisp crust & we just didn’t care for the flavor of our Margarita flatbread choice
( & I love most margarita pizzas!)
My hubby’s vodka martini was the tiniest pour I have ever seen! Our great server did take it back & brought back a normal size drink.
Good, not great. That's what my husband and I both said as we were leaving City Kitchen the other night. My short rib was dry and not "fall apart" tender as it should be. There were numerous brussel sprouts on my plate but they were not cooked through. I do like most of my veggies al dente but not my brussel sprouts. My husband's trout was 2 very thin fillets . Both dishes could have been hotter. The prices of both were higher than they should have been.
I chose the restaurant specifically for the steak, it was very good. The side dish of fries were terrible, burnt and soggy w/grease. The dessert menu lacked choices, didn't have cheesecake or brownie with scoop of ice cream. Atmosphere, service, steak were all very good, a little overpriced.
We had an 8:00 reservation on a Saturday night and were surprised to see so many empty tables. We soon realized that was probably the work of our server, who must've been trying to win a contest to see how fast he could rush us through a meal. Despite my ordering a dish which he "warned" us would take 20-25 minutes to prepare, we were in and out--including drinks before dinner--by 8:45. Too bad; this was a cool place I'd visit again, but only if I could be sure to have another server.
Start with being seated next to a work station at a small table in an almost empty restaurant. Continue with entrees being served halfway through the appetizers. Finish with dirty dishes from appetizer never being cleared until after meal. Too bad because the food was good. Never an apology or even recognition that there was a problem. Symptoms of bad management. First and last visit.
The restaurant was lovely, but the food was so so. The grilled cheese was limp rather than grilled and crunchy. We had to pay extra for toast with our eggs. Tbe best thing was the Greek salad...a combo Greek and French Nicoise. The dessert was a joke. Considering the fact that we told the waiter we wanted a shareable dessert. We all laughed when the cake arrived...it was a bite of cake, at best.
Lovely staff and atmosphere! We wish we could have eaten the food. Not safe for peanut/legume allergy, sadly. Peanut flour and cross contact noted, but thankfully our server was brutally honest. Kudos to her for keeping us safe. Our food rating was a guess since we did not consume anything. I bet it's great for non-allergic folks!
We were seated right away. Shelly, our waitress, was awesome. Me and my friends were catching up and she was very patient while we decided on drinks ($5 glass of wine) and appetizers. Dinner was very good with a healthy portion. Definitely recommend for a date; business or hanging at the bar.
My wife and I had a rare date night. Our server, Michael did a wonderful job executing a wonderful evening of great service and made some nice suggestions about wines by the glass and dessert options. This restaurant does a nice job of creating ambiance and personality despite being a large space.
