City Cafe - Baltimore Ratings and Reviews
This was absolutely a horrible experience. We brought our kids out for Valentine's Day and could have just saved our money. The food, especially the chicken, was under-cooked and cold. The waiter was very inattentive and had to keep asking other workers for various items. Management did nothing to rectify the situation and also had just microwaved food that we sent back because it was cold.
I brought my dad here for breakfast before heading to the auto show. We do annual father/daughter auto show trip - either baltimore or philly. We walked in and he was instantly blown away by the jazz music playing.
He ordered the angry omelet and his reaction after the first bite sealed the deal. He couldn't stop expressing how great the food was. It was like with each bite it got better. I can't tell you if it was good because there was no sharing to be had.
My crab benedict was amazing. I didn't think it was going to be filling but my goodness it was.
Also the large mimosa...was spot on.
I can't wait to come back for another brunch or happy hour to try more food.
We went to City Cafe before a show at the Lyric. It was a busy night with several shows in the area. The staff was sensitive to our time as they are used to a "show" crowd. Our food took a little longer than expected but they were very attentive and we felt like they took care of the situation quite well. Always recommend City Cafe
I almost always eat at City Cafe before attending the Baltimore Symphony. I look forward to eating there as much as going to the concert. I often get their crispy fried oysters (so good) and a wonderful salad such as their harvest salad with nuts, dried fruits, goat cheese, etc. I love their lamb burger and lots of other regular menu items. Their servers are perfect!
The City Cafe is usually reliable for both service and food quality. Unfortunately, on this night, the service was not good. It took almost 25 minutes to get our cocktails. Both our appetizer and dinners were delivered in that time span. When I tried to explain to the food runner that we haven’t received our drinks and we were about 3/4 through our appetizer, she blatantly asked if we wanted our dinners or not. The server did offer a dessert for our patience with the drinks. I will go back to City Cafe because I’m hoping this was an one time occurrence.
Just a perfect place to have a delicious meal. First time back after traveling and it was great to be back to this lovely restaurant. The essentials have stayed the same; delicious food, great wine and cocktails, and outstanding service. What more could you want?!?!
Disappointed...I have previously had great experiences here but this last visit was not a good one. Our waiter was attentive through the point of ordering, then disappeared and never returned until he brought the check. My chicken was underdone - major issue - and he never stopped by to check on our food so that I could make him aware of this issue. We also ran out of water (no refills) and had no opportunity to order drink refills. At this point, not planning to return any time soon.
Quickie Review!: The service and ambiance is always top notch. Folks dress from casual to dressy, but everyone feels welcomed. The food is good, but the menu doesn't offer any "knockout" dishes. The specialty cocktails are inventive and consistently tray tasty.
We have enjoyed the City Café for many years as one of our "go to" restaurants. Unfortunately, over approximately the last year we have noticed a subtle decline in the quality of some of our very favorite items. Specifically, the crab bisque, which we once thought was the best we had ever tasted, is no longer the same. We feel the same way about the bread and olive oil. Also, certain entrees are "good" but not "very good". My wife and I dine out a great deal and have seen these kinds of changes before that eventually lead to significant quality changes and then a surprise closing. I hope the City Café is not on that path.
Great location for a dinner after attending Meyerhoff Symphony Hall. Restaurant kindly made changes to our reservation when I called and we were seated immediately. Everyone enjoyed their food selections and the sangria was quite good too. We were disappointed with the level of service /lack of attentiveness from our server.
I wasn't very impressed with City Cafe. They seated us at a table right next to the window and it was FREEZING. My right foot and leg were going numb from the cold draft coming through the window. My entree was not very appetizing because they used too much pesto in it. The service was decent.
