City Cafe - Baltimore Ratings and Reviews
Disappointed...I have previously had great experiences here but this last visit was not a good one. Our waiter was attentive through the point of ordering, then disappeared and never returned until he brought the check. My chicken was underdone - major issue - and he never stopped by to check on our food so that I could make him aware of this issue. We also ran out of water (no refills) and had no opportunity to order drink refills. At this point, not planning to return any time soon.
Quickie Review!: The service and ambiance is always top notch. Folks dress from casual to dressy, but everyone feels welcomed. The food is good, but the menu doesn't offer any "knockout" dishes. The specialty cocktails are inventive and consistently tray tasty.
Great location for a dinner after attending Meyerhoff Symphony Hall. Restaurant kindly made changes to our reservation when I called and we were seated immediately. Everyone enjoyed their food selections and the sangria was quite good too. We were disappointed with the level of service /lack of attentiveness from our server.
I wasn't very impressed with City Cafe. They seated us at a table right next to the window and it was FREEZING. My right foot and leg were going numb from the cold draft coming through the window. My entree was not very appetizing because they used too much pesto in it. The service was decent.
Went with my church members for a Christmas dinner. I loved the food and the server (Philip) was an absolute delight; very accommodating and fun. I had the Baltimore Benedict and LOVED IT!! Lime ginger soda was refreshing and delicious. I will definitely be back and I live 45 minutes away.
Food was very good and the ambience was ok as we were seated by the server stand. Our service was the worst I/we have ever had since the Cafe opened. Our waitress took almost 15 mins to come up after being seated, she only came back 2x for the entire - rest of our entire meal! We waited for other staff to get us drinks, and to ask for the check. Thoroughly disappointed by this shoddy service!
Went before seeing the BSO Christmas show (convenient walking distance to the Meyerhoff). Food was excellent. We had the lamb burger, Chicken Fun Salad, steak salad and grilled chicken Caesar salad. All were very enjoyable as were the 16 oz mimosas. Recommended!
My friend and I chose City Cafe as our annual Christmas friends-date brunch location this year and we absolutely loved it!
The menu had a wide variety of interesting and creative brunch options, including a lot of vegetarian choices. The fried green tomato appetizer was delicious, served with an abundance of gorgeous, sweet lump crab meat. We had a difficult time choosing entrees from the abundance of intriguing options, but were glad to have chosen the fried chicken and waffles (served with perfectly poached eggs) and the angry omelet (topped with succulent shrimp).
We also really enjoyed our cocktails and highly recommend the refreshing and satisfying mint and lime crush.
Our server, Sam, was incredibly friendly and attentive without being overbearing. He was also extremely knowledgeable about the menu.
We will definitely be back to City Cafe (we've already got an idea of what we'll try next time)!
Our dinner at City Cafe was pretty good, but not fantastic; perhaps we missed on some of our menu choices (we've eaten there before with better results). One selection that stood out as excellent was the braised short ribs, which my husband enjoyed immensely. I took a chance on the brisket sandwich, which was just okay... a bit under-seasoned (despite the promise of horseradish "tiger sauce"!), and greasier than I would have preferred. We also ventured to try a new dessert offering, maple sweet potato cheesecake, which was very rich (okay) but also really too sweet for our taste; we would no doubt have fared better with an old favorite, the chocolatey bread pudding. Service was all right, but on the slow side, despite the fact that a snowy day made for a lighter crowd than usual. The ambiance, as always, was chic, bright, and warm, just right for dining out on a winter evening .
Four of us had lunch at City Cafe for a holiday get-together. We each ordered different lunch choices ranging from a veggie burger to Latin hash to salmon BALT to Eggs Benedict. Each entree was enjoyed, though the Benedict could have been warmer indicating it may have sat in the kitchen before being delivered to the table. The veggie burger and the salmon won high praise from the 2 that ordered those items. Our server was enthusiastic, but he could have been more attentive.
The shrimp and grits and steak frite were delicious! Unimpressed with the crab cakes. Overall ambiance was nice but parking was horrendous. This wouldn’t have been an issue had the valet been operating at the time stated on the website. No apology or compensation for the incon was offered.
Great Sunday brunch location, Our group thoroughly enjoyed both the Angry Omelet and the Latin Hash. The only glitch was our inability to order French Press as they were waiting for their coffee delivery! We did get our Sunday morning caffeine, the brewed coffee. Hard to believe a restaurant was in danger of running out of coffee on a weekend!
Despite that glitch, we will definitely return.
City Cafe is a great brunch place! We had terrific food - the Veggie Eggs Benedict and the Lamb Burger - and really enjoyed the ambiance. We were visiting from Philadelphia and enjoyed a nice walk over to Baltimore Center Stage following brunch - a lovely day in Charm City.
Went for a pre-theater dinner that included adventurous eaters and less so, from age 8 to 80. They accommodated my daughter's desire for an off-menu grilled cheese, and my mom's desire for a burger. We enjoyed a unique appetizer, a delicious cream of crab soup (perhaps the best I've ever had!) and the homemade mushroom ravioli I had were divine! Atmosphere is sophisticated and fun without being stuffy or pretentious-- fancy food in a nice and comfortable atmosphere, and comfy food choices too. And their desserts are awesome too!! A great option whether you have 2 hours or just 45 minutes.
Excellent food and service. We had the vegan entrée, the chicken with pancetta and smoky mozzarella, and the bronzini. The mains and the sides were perfectly prepared except the chicken could have used a bit more of the delicious sauce. 0.4 miles from Center Stage so great for a pre-theater meal.
Went on a Friday night before a show at the Lyric. Even though it was very crowded we were seated right on time for our 6:15pm reservation which gave us plenty of time to have a leisurely dinner and then make the 10 minute walk to the venue with plenty of time to spare. Our entrees were very good (2 of us ordered the bronzini, 1 ordered the pasta with chicken and pesto sauce). The bar was very busy and drinks were a bit slow to arrive. Perhaps this also explains why they were not very good. The $9 orange crush was nothing more than a weak vodka and orange juice over crushed ice; the bloody Mary was watery and overly spiced with Old Bay seasoning (why does every bar in Baltimore think that a bloody Mary must be served in a glass rimmed with Old Bay?). Our server was really a pleasure.
