Excellent as always. Our out-of-town guest loved the cream of crab soup and fried oysters. The tuna poke had a very generous portion of seared tuna. The pesto sauce on the chicken penne was light and creamy. All delicious.
Amazing still. I’ve been dining here for 10 years!
Appetizers were a hit. Service was good but a little slow. Good variety of dishes so each person in-our group found something they liked.
Always great food & service. Very busy (glad we reserved). Will go again
Loved the scallops risotto and cucumber martini. Overall, it was a pleasurable dining experience for our party of four.
City Cafe is our go to restaurant on BSO nights. We were tight on time but Seth our server and the entire team got us our food quickly and we did not feel rushed even when we were brought the wrong sandwich. The problem was quickly corrected. The whole team handled it well
Food is always good but this night we found the wait staff to be curt and uninterested in our service. Disappointing...
Not great service this time. One server for the entire second floor. He was way too busy to even check with us one time. Asked 3 times for an ice tea refill. Asked for additional dressing / never got it.
The food was very good, and there was an extensive selection including many gluten free options. Our server Seth was outstanding. City Cafe is a great pre-theater (Meyerhoff) destination.
I love City Cafe. I love the food. The employees are great. But I hate being seated near the marble bar and having a bartender as our server. They are too busy to do that and be an effective server. Plus that is the loudest section of the restaurant. We were happy to wait for a table upstairs and were told at first that there would be one soon. But then when a manager saw that we were still waiting 10 minutes later he insisted on seating us and we wound up in the worst possible seats. I’d have rather waited longer and sat upstairs. Noise level destroys my enjoyment of the food—and the absolute worst noise is the sound of dishes and utensils literally being THROWN into sinks a few feet away.
After church on Sunday we usually like to go to City cafe
The food is flavorful and inventive without being intimidating. There is always something new to try and the staff do a great job providing recommendations tailor to the diners.
Always a pleasant meal and walk away happy. Good restaurant for the neighborhood, can be a little noisy.
I went to City Cafe with two friends for brunch on Easter Sunday and we had a fabulous time. We were seated as soon as we got there. The menu was extensive and had alot of great selections. We ordered pancakes, french toast (bites), butternut squash soup, fruit salad, bacon, turkey sausage and potatoes (we may have overdid it) but it was WORTH it! Everything was delicious. We will be back in the Summer
The management is very rude. I found this at their other location as well. It is ridiculous when one has a reservation not to seat the people who are already present. Why do they have to wait for one other person to come in order for the party to be seated. The whole purpose of a reservation is to be seated at a table and not have to wait in the entry way. I will not be coming back to this restaurant.
excellent dining experience. food was fantastic
The steak salad was great - perfectly cooked. Great service.
Innovative cuisine. Great happy hour. Especially love the calamari.
The food is excellent
Food was great. Service was very slow. Would recommend checking out Monday steak night!
Very good food at decent price, but price for basically 1/2 a glass of wine was way too high.
This was an Excellent surprise meal for my family!
I always love going to City Café - before the symphony, after a school event, with friends or with my husband. Good drinks and food!
The City Cafe serves creative and delicious contemporary cuisine for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and brunch. Exceptional cocktails! The Bloody Mary is a wonderful weekend eye-opener! You will not go wrong with anything you order. During my last visit for brunch, I had the chilaquiles and they were marvelous.
The staff was amazing. Called for a large reservation right at closing and 12 hours before actual reservation. They were very accommodating for extra guests. The service for large party was excellent. Food came out fast and hot. Brunch has a decent selection. Wil defibately return
Returned to City Cafe on a Monday night, and tried their Monday night special menu which was an outstanding value! And my dinner was delicious! Will definitely return again and again.
Nice location. Nice environment. Good and attentive service.
Special drinks & service were great although our waiter was new. Food was over cooked & we were disappointed they no longer have valet parking.
The meal started off on a sour note when as the hostess was seating us, she commented "Just in time, I almost gave your table away." To be fair, we were 10 minutes late for our reservation, but I phoned the restaurant at our reservation time to let the them know our estimated arrival time. Regardless, I can't think of a situation where this would be an appropriate comment. The appetizers were very good, crispy fried oysters and brussel sprouts. The steak frites was average or a little below average. The steaks were well cooked, but didn't have a lot of flavor. The frites were a little bland and not very crispy. The service was attentive. I had indicated on the reservation that I was celebrating a special occasion. I was a little disappointed that this was not acknowledged by anyone at the restaurant during the visit. Overall, the meal was average, but for the price paid i was expecting more in both quality of food and service.
As usual, good service and good food. Very helpful with obtaining reservation for a busy evening. Very welcoming and friendly.
Go. Definitely worth it.
Our server never brought bread to our table and brought 2 specialty drinks (Moscow mule and orange crush) that were all ice. She also kept asking us if we were ready to order from the minute we sat down, after we got drinks and after we ordered several appetizers despite us telling her we didn’t want to be rushed. The table next to us left when we did and they got their entrees when we sat down. When we said it was our son’s birthday she said we could buy a dessert and she’d put a candle in it. We come to CC regularly, we love the food and atmosphere, this was our first bad experience. Disappointing.
After dinning at the City Café for many years and enjoying the restaurant and especially the food we are increasingly disappointed with the quality of the food, which continues to decline! We are currently reluctant to go to the restaurant that used to be our "go to" spot.
The service during our most recent visit was pretty slow and our waitress was not all that personable.
Our waitress, Jeanette, was fabulous! The food was wonderful (try the corn fritters) and the special that night, seared scallops in a butternut squash risotto, was heavenly. We had reservations for dinner, and then came back after the symphony for dessert and coffee. Our tab was reasonable for the quality of the dishes! Will go back again when in town.
We frequent City Café whenever we attend a concert downtown, and for the first time we were disappointed. Our table was dirty when we sat down (lots of sugar on table, table obviously had NOT been wiped down). Waitress cleaned off table, but not too happily, and was not apologetic at all. Food is normally consistently good here; however one of our meals was cold. When sent back, it was returned, but still not hot inside. We did not want to, nor did we have time to send it back again. May have to find a new venue before our concerts.
We arrived early and the noise was fine, but as it got more crowded, it was very loud on a Thrs evening. Food was very good but a little pricier...you get what you pay for though!
Great place for food and drinks! We usually choose the outdoor seating and enjoy the neighborhood scenery and passersby along with creative food and wonderful drinks. Beer selection is great!
As always, a wonderful experience of delicious food, attentive but not intrusive services, and a lively ambiance. I always enjoy the imaginative cocktails and well-prepared dishes in generous portions. Both management and staff work hard to make sure guests have a great time. This place is a favorite of mine.
The quality of the food at the City Café continues to decline!
