The food was mediocre. Cocktails were good.
Good place for cocktails and appetizer
For a supposedly hit restaurant, it was empty and lackluster atmosphere. Was really excited to try this out because I'm a fan of Jason's other restaurant Buttermilk and Bourbon, therefore my expectations were really high. The decor is warming and playful but the service is cold and sparse (However we did have a really great food runner, he was very friendly and efficient). It's clear the main goal of this restaurant is to get you to instagram/snapchat it, leaving less focus on the quality of food. Almost everyone had their phones out. Our drinks took forever - 15-20 min and our first plates came out before our drinks did. Our drinks were nothing special. For branding themselves as a Coastal Mexican restaurant the drinks lacked authenticity and freshness replaced by syrups and overly sweet purees. My friend ordered a margarita which was over poured and she was unable to drink it. I was really excited for the drinks but was disappointed with each cocktail. Our first plates consisted of guacamole, tuna ceviche and chilaquiles. The guacamole was horrible, it was completely spoiled by too much onion. The tuna in the ceviche was too large and roughly cut. The chilaquiles were okay but it came out warm and the nachos were soggy like it had been sitting out in the kitchen for a while. They literally came out 1 min after ordering. Our next round included the street corn, biscuits and beef cheek. The corn was terrible and too dry, barely edible. The beef cheek was good and the biscuits were great but they were the exact same biscuits at Buttermilk and Bourbon. Lastly we got the Dole whip and churros for dessert. Both were excellent and I would definitely order them again. Overall, I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for good food and experience. This place is new so I will probably give it another chance come winter to see if it improves at all. It has potential and Jason certainly knows how to cook it just needs refinement and extra attention to details.
The food was impressive. New take on classics, super light and flavorful! I had the tuna ceviche, pork belly tacos, and duck confit flautas, all would get again. All around 12 bucks and perfect for sharing between two people. The decor is super colorful and young with stringed lights and funky paintings. For the Thursday night it was very loud it was hard to hear the person across from you and the server was busy and forgot about us at times but I would definitely would go back.
The drinks took a very long time but other than that, good!
Very good! Would go back again! Loved the design and decor as well as the food drinks and staff. I will definitely go back again!
Overall a fun date night spot. Delicious drinks (best part of the restaurant), yummy food (nothing especially remarkable but all tasty), and passable service. The host/hostess were unusually cold and unwelcoming for a lively restaurant but since we didn’t have to deal with them very much it did not impact our experience.
Superb and fresh
The one piece of feedback is that our waitress kept just walking away from the table when our group when weren’t done ordering another drink or plate.
Instead of saying “can I get anyone else another drink?” She’s just walk away before another person could order their drink. She would have saved herself a lot of back & forth if she had done that, not to mention providing better service to the customer.
I never experienced such a bad service in a restaurant. The waitress just throwned knifes and forks on the table was extremely unpleasant and really influenced our overall impression of the restaurant. The food was good even though a bit overpriced for the size of the portions. But the service was so unpleasant we were not even able to truly enjoy the food. When leaving the restaurant after leaving an imposed tip (because we were a group of 7 people) the waitress did not even bother to say goodbye or thank you even though we did so .... overall really negative experience
Went with my family of four - two teenage boys who love Mexican food. Menu was a bit small so and it is done tapas style so we ordered a good number of items. Of all of them (we ordered around 8), I would probably only come back for two - the guac and the chilaquiles. Corn was just okay, chicken wings had an odd flavor (but were cooked really well), mussels were a little overwhelmed by the chorizo, duck flautas (I liked them, others not so much). Drinks are excellent, as is service.
Amazing food, service was on point and I couldn’t be more pleased with the experience!!!
scallops were unbelievable. the perfect spicy/sweet balance. drinks were hit or miss along with some of the other food items. service was good. and yah have to end with the dole whip and rum. just do it
Good food. Delicious drinks. A bit loud / crowded for an intimate date, but a good spot for a group of friends
Great food and tequila, though a little pricey
We loved it! Service was great, food was awesome, drinks were fabulous!! We were so stuffed we couldn’t finish our food so we will just have to go back!
We really enjoyed our evening at Citrus and Spice. The food was very good, the service lovely, and the location is really convenient.
I definitely plan to return.
Cool ambiance with great food and drinks. Highly recommend the Fordidden Love - delicious and not too sweet. Scallops were really good too!
Ambiance, food and service all outstanding! Highly recommend!
OBSESSED - amazing ambiance
Can't say enough great things about this place. It's officially my new favorite place. Make sure you save room for the Dole Whip!!
Great food and ambiance
Great food but Expensive for the amount you get.
My girlfriends and I had a great time! Service, ambiance and food was great! Such a cute place for date night or just casual dinner with your friends. Highly recommend and also reasonably price.
The corn and croquettes were really good. The artisan salad and pork belly tacos weren’t so good. Drinks were pretty good. Atmosphere is loud and service a bit slow.
Great location and awesome ambiance. Love the tapas format.
Great experience! From the decor and lively atmosphere to the great small plates and drinks, Citrus & Salt is a welcome addition to the Back Bay restaurant scene! Would go back in a heartbeat!
If you like Pineapple.. get the pineapple dole whip ice cream.. its super delicious
Cool spot with awesome decor! The porkbelly tacos and ceviche were the best! Recommend for gathering with friends at this hip spot.
Citrus & Salt has a great new approach to creative Mexican tapas. We were very impressed with the range, quality and flavors of everything we tried. The decor is colorful yet subtle with a lovely Southwestern flair. The seating includes the addition of a long community table perfect for friends gathering. This is a must try!
Loved trying Citrus and Salt. If you are trying to go on a weekend I would absolutely recommend getting a reservation. The bar was packed from an early time. Jalapeno kettle chips with Guac & their margs.... I need them in my life daily
The restaurant forgot my mother’s salad. They also made us wait 40 minutes for our table. They also did not have a coat check. Good food tho
Very disappointing service.... had a group together for a special occasion and had checked out the restaurant the day before, specified a table set up, and arrived to find that this is not what we now had.... wasn’t room for 10 people to sit around the table.... response was basically nothing we can do , so sorry. Needed to lean on them very hard before they came back with a solution. So kudos for solving the issue and a pox on them for getting it wrong for the first hour... extremely noisy restaurant.... food was interesting.... all in all could not recommend this place other then for 20 somethings looking to meet up for drinks and a snack.
Cirtus and salt was amazing!! I went with a friend and had an amazing evening. It was so warm and cozy and beach on a cold winter night. The food was amazing and the portions are perfect for sharing. Everything was delicious!!!
Definitely the prettiest restaurant I’ve ever been to. Everything (including the floor) was just nice to look at. Beef cheek was our favorite plate, and the pork belly tacos were a close second. Collectively we had 6 different cocktails and loved 5 out of 6 of them. We did not enjoy the one made with cold brew, but that could just be a matter of taste. Would definitely go back here!
The bartenders were not friendly, drinks were mediocre and the food was cold. The hostess was great though!
Great decor, food and service!
The food was very good- a little expensive for what you get but the tapas servings are bigger than most . Definitely will come back !
Citrus & Salt exceeded my expectations in every way. The food was out of this world, the service was great, and the ambiance is the absolute best. Oh, the biscuits were to die for...and I never knew how much I loved flaming hot Cheetos until I had them on the street corn. Hands down one of the coolest places in Boston. Will definitely be back again and again.
We had fun
Has a lot of potential! However being a newer restaurant there’s definitely a few kinks to work out. Food came out immediately and was cold. Drinks tasted like there was barely any alcohol in it. Service was a bit rushed and there were few people in the restaurant. Excited to try again once they’ve had a bit more experience.
