The place was empty when I arrived for my reservation. It was a rainy night so perhaps they stayed away. It was about 830 so it wasn’t too late. The meal I had was one of the worst I’ve had in a long time. I ordered the duck for the appetizer. It came with chopped potatoes that I think were left over from last weeks breakfast and reheated. The duck was served cold and was gray instead of pink. The meal I had was the sirloin steak. It was extremely dry and tough. At least the water was good and the bartender was a nice enough guy. But it taste like they had sent their chefs home and just reheated everything in the microwave. If I could give it less than one star I would.

It was our first time there and we were a little disappointed. Love the look of the place but our meal wasn’t great. I think it might be because it was restaurant week and they were overwhelmed. They didn’t have several items on the menu, they had run out. Also maybe due to restaurant week. My husband ordered gnocchi and when they brought his meal they had just substituted regular pasta since they were out of gnocchi. Thought it was strange they didn’t ask if he wanted something else before just serving something different. Brussels sprouts were good.
Actual Dining Week menu was not the same as the Dining Week menu being used to advertise online. Several dishes advertised online were missing from the menu as we sat down - including one dish in particular that brought us in. This was disappointing. Service was ridiculously slow - we spent well over 2 hours in the restaurant from start to finish, and it was not that busy. Servers seemed overwhelmed and inexperienced. Food was decent, but for the total price of the bill, a lot was left to be desired overall.
Two of our main dishes were served cold When we asked to see our server about it, the manager came over and apologized and offered to make new meals. The second round was a little warmer but hot. Food quality and service a step down from previous visits to the restaurant.
We unexpectedly took advantage of the restaurant week special. The appetizer options were great. My husband had the wings and they were amazing. I had the Brussel sprouts and also thought they were excellent. I have eaten there before, so I truly appreciated a three course meal.
We were pleasantly surprised when we walked into Citronelle. It's beautifully decorated and laid out. Our server Lydia was informed, attentive and relaxed. My husbands food was excellent and mine was good. He had the salmon and I had sirloin. Cocktails were interesting, but on the sweet side. Being from Philly where whisky cocktails are the rage, we were disappointed at the lack of these. I hope this place can even out the food and keep people coming in because it's a gem.
Food was not great, otherwise, it would be a fantastic spot.
The food was pretty good. One guest found their steak tough and another the same with the octopus.
The service was friendly and good for the most part. At times server seemed to get behind and bringing wine glass after the guest finished his cheese course. I was particularly unimpressed with the delivery of steak knives. Held in a bunch and distributed like pencils to whoever needed one instead of setting them in place.
Food was phenomenal! We both had NY strips and they were cooked and seasoned to perfection. We topped off with crème brûlée and molten lava cake, both of which were to die for.
The restaurant had a special 4 course valentines dinner and it was amazing! A bit pricey, but since it was a special occasion it was worth it. I want to go back and order something off their regular menu sometime.

My husband and I had a great date at Citronelle. It was a very snowy day, so the restaurant was quiet. The seafood tower is amazing! The cocktails and entrees were great too. We will definitely be back.
Great Bartender, knew his drinks. The French Manhattan is a must! Oysters were fresh and delicious, Fries with a malt vinegar aïoli dipping sauce was amazing and the octopus With chorizo was epic- Didn’t love the chicken Mole tacos but they weren’t terrible either- def a great spot, will return!

Wonderful as usual. Had the pork chop which was amazing and the Bourbon creme brûlée was delicious! Everyone else loved their food too.

Service and ambiance were excellent. We ate on the late side on a Friday night and most tables empty and therefore quiet. The waitress was very personable. The kitchen seemed very slow. We waited a long time for anything from the kitchen. Citronelle-Syracuse claims an Asian fusion theme, but it was pretty subtle on the menu and I didn’t happen to choose any of those dishes, except the crispy skinned chicken entree had a pleasant five spice flavored sauce. We wound up sharing oysters and salad to start, then chicken and salmon for large plate entrees and coffee, creme brûlée and a selection of pumpkin ice cream and three sorbets for dessert, an unexpected gesture from the kitchen in response to me saying , “you decide.” The best things were the ginger pear sorbet and the oysters. The oysters were perfectly shucked, wonderfully cold, and served with a bracing mignonette. I wonder what would have happened to my salmon if I hadn’t ordered it “medium.” I think it may have inspired the chef to overcook it. I am not a fan of the current trend in my area (greater NYC) of having salmon with a cold center like a rare steak, so maybe I caused the over correction. It was pretty uninteresting even apart from being somewhat overcooked. It was supposed to come with beet orzo, which I had hoped was beets in the shape of orzo, like cauliflower rice, but it was simply a beet flavored orzo, which was fine. The crispy skin chicken had the potential to be a stunner. Corrections needed are to serve the chicken on top of the sticky Asian flavored sauce not underneath it and to back off the sweetness in the sauce a bit for my taste. The sauce of course completely undid the excellent crispy skin. Desserts very nice, but coffee cool. Wine list fine and cocktails well made. I will be back when in the area.
The service was very good. The food was ordinary and certainly not worth the price. No spices or drizzles of something different. Just plain. I can do that at home. Not what what we were expecting. Atmosphere was nice.
We chose Citronelle for its ambiance—a bit of quiet in a hectic holiday season. The food is quite good. We particularly enjoyed the mussels and hot bread. A few more vegetarian options would be great, but we usually manage to find something tasty.
Menu could use some enhancements. Farro w scallops was good.
Vietnamese wings were ABC- already been cooked.
Go to Lemongrass instead.
Much better food than last visit! Lovely service. Great-looking space that is rather noisy, though. Still a nice option in Syracuse.
An enjoyable evening. Staff was very helpful in answering questions. service was prompt and not rushed and food was well presented and good. Drinks a bit high, however that was our choice.
I felt the ambiance and noise level were perfect for a business dinner. Our waitress was distracted and forgot to bring more water, silverware for coffee and dessert, and cream for the coffee. She was very pleasant and mentioned that the busboy had called in. Dinner was excellent.
The Bar and high tops are the best bet here. The menu is good, many options, we all ordered different item. Lamb lollipops tasted good but one was too rare, they weren't all cooked the same. Pork chops were also good. When we first arrived the hostess was not very attentive, just took our name and said nothing else. We went to the bar to wait, seated about 15 minutes after the reservation, not too bad. Request the front room, the back room is like a hotel banquet room. Lighting is too bright in both rooms. Service was good.

The food was great but had a very limited menu due to parents weekend at SU. We had countless contact with the restaurant confirming our reservation and it was never mentioned. We came back wanting the dishes we loved the last time we were there. They were not on the menu- only very high priced entrees that seemed a much higher price then the last time we visited. Seemed like they were taking advantage of parents weekend. The waitress was ‘meh’ on the friendly scale and was very inflexible on any substitutions. Sure she was guided that way by her manager. It was just disappointing. Our table of 6 were seated in between 2 huge parties and it was so loud that we had a hard time conversing with our daughter’s roommate’s family. Would I go back - yes! Would I go back on parents weekend - no!

Terrible experience over this past weekend at Citronelle. This was our third time dining here. First time food and service were good, but felt the menu items were overpriced for both the area and quality of food. Second time we were seated in the back room. No atmosphere at all, so dining experience was lacking. This weekend we arrived having a reservation made through Open Table. I looked at the menu on the website earlier in the day and had some ideas about which menu items seemed interesting. We were seated and handed a paper menu, which was not the complete menu. When we inquired about this, we were told that there was a limited menu since it was Syracuse University's Parents Weekend. (I've visited my children on several occasions for Parents Weekend in different college towns and never has a restaurant had a limited menu) This menu was extremely limited as compared to the regular menu and none of the items I was interested in were included. We asked to speak to the manager and told him that we were not informed that there would be a limited menu. There was no indication of this on their website, on Open Table, or in any of the communication to confirm our reservation. He stated that, had we called to make a reservation, rather than using Open Table, we would have been told. He did apologize, but was not otherwise particularly helpful. He informed us that the kitchen "was not prepped" to do a full menu. We told him we found this unacceptable and he again apologized, but offered nothing in the way of compensation. We did not stay for a meal and will not return.
Don't bother. The food was good and the hostess was very sweet. You can find this at lots of other places that don't have inflexible arrogant chefs. Being a risotto nut, I asked the waiter if my filet could be served with risotto instead of mashed potatoes. The waiter responded, "I can ask, but the chef makes it clear that there are no substitutions." No substitutions? What kind of restaurant doesn't try to accommodate its guests? Then we had to ask for salt. Sorry, but Citronelle isn't Le Bernardin. The salt was delivered, pepper was not. Arrogant. We eat out a lot, and won't tolerate a place that makes us feel as if we are bothering them by patronizing their restaurant.

My wife and I were looking for some high quality, upscale cuisine, and we found it at Citronelle. We shared a few small plates, and all were excellent. Our favorite was the lamb lollipops. Our waitress was friendly and knowledgeable about the food, and was helpful in selecting a wine. The ambiance was nice - open, but not noisy. Overall an outstanding experience.
