concept of grilling over a wood-fire resonates deep within the American culture,
and our guests have a firsthand view of the show. An impressive wood-fired
grill that incorporates the use of native hard and fruitwoods is the anchor of the
restaurant space, kitchen, and menu. At its core, Citizen Rail is a restaurant that
connects with the soul and fulfills Denver’s desire for restaurants & bars that are
genuine, authentic and reflect the true passion of the artisans behind the stoves.

The appetizers were expensive for the amount you get, but the food is really good!
Short ribs with horseradish potatoes to die for. Would go back.
Had a reservation for 6 people and the restaurant called to confirm. The waiter was very knowledgeable on the menu and provided very good guidance on the wine selection. Food and ambience was great. Would highly recommend this restaurant for a business dinner.
My go to for this type of food. Service is second to none. Recommend highly
Our server was amazing! He recommended a sweet drink for me; which I could not get enough of and the lamb stew which was Devine. He basically recommended our whole meal starting from the charcuterie board all the way to the lebowski dessert. He was funny and super welcoming. The manager there was equally as awesome and came to check in on us.
I love everything about this restaurant! Beautiful upscale but not pretentious. Delicious food, innovative drink menu, and amazing service from every single employee.
We really enjoy this restaurant. The menu is not large, but it's better to have a smaller selection of great food compared to a large selection of okay-to-decent food. We reserved a 'hightop' for the first time and maybe it's just us, but we enjoyed sitting in the bar more than in the dining room.
We were recommended citizen rail by a friend while looking for date night places. The food here is amazinggggg. A little pricey but definitely worth it. The entire staff was very nice and welcoming. We are so happy we tried Citizen rail and we will definitely be back!!
Amazing experience sitting at the counter and interacting with the chef.
Server was very approachable and non intrusive for our lunch meeting. Food was great also.
We had brunch here, and ordered 3 entrees for two of us as we couldn’t narrow down our choices. We loved all three. When our waitress found out it was
Wonderful evening meal would highly recommend. Loved the burger and chicken dinners
A class act from stepping into the door Through an outstanding meal with impeccable service, unobtrusive yet amazing attention to detail. Excellent advice and knowledge of the menu, food was amazing – everyone’s dishes were designed to impress - our diverse group was immediately planning other events here.
I am a chef and particular and I really enjoyed every aspect of my experience.
Server and food was great. Noise level is SO LOUD
Great attitudes from ALL staff!
I was pretty underwhelmed. The burrata and focaccia appetizer and the broccoli rabe side were probably the most impressive but the mains disappointed. Both our main's were pretty bland / under-seasoned, the steak had a fair bit of gristle and the pork chop was unevenly cooked (read: raw) in some places. And the service was aloof at best. For the price point, I expected this to be more on par with an Oak in Boulder, but it really didn't compare. I will say that the cocktails were great. Cheers to the bartender for two very solid concoctions.
Steak was extremely tough. Very lightly kissed with smoke . Ordered the spicy carrot side which were not all carrots but parsnips and raw or very lightly cooked. Found a hair, a full one at that, in a blended and slightly creamy chimicurry sauce. I don't know how you get a full course hair in a blended sauce but it happened, and it was at the bottom of the cup at that. I would highly recommend not eating here for dinner. They only took off the 2 sides after taking the recommendation from the server on the sides size. I had to order a second side. The manager came out and offered new food but I don't see how you could fix the multitude of problems I had. They didn't even replace my chimichurri they brought me 2 different sauces. After leaving I was still hungry because I could not eat the tough steak which was new york strip and I can get a more tender piece at Texas Roadhouse, I went to Anthony's pizza across the street to get something to fill me up. I ate an entire medium pizza from them. I do not eat much in a day and usually if I have a meal for lunch I will just have soup or something very small for dinner. If I am expecting a decent dinner I won't eat lunch so I won't ruin my dinner. Well I was looking forward to dinner so I only had some fries for lunch from my wife's plate. Not worth the amount they charge at all. Highly disappointed and I can tell the reviews do not match what people actually think as the place was empty. I bet most reviews are fluff/false to keep this place open.
Second time there for brunch. The bus person seemed more attentive than our server. Requested the apple muffin to be served first but it was not. Requested hot sauce when order was placed and had to request twice after the food came. Biscuits and gravy w/ prosciutto weren't as good as the last time and plates not as hot so it was cold fast.
The setting is more outstanding than the execution of the menu, which sounded delicious when we booked, but ended up being a bit inconsistent. I still recommend Citizen Rail and will try it again. It's a good spot to meet friends for a drink and to people-watch.
Can’t give Zero Stars. 3 course was a joke. First review I’ve ever wrote.. Feels necessary. Saved the worst meal of the decade for last meal of the decade.

We had a perfect NYE dinner, enjoyed every moment. Then celebrated our engagement with a breakfast the next day and felt so special. Everyone went above and beyond and I give it 5 starts all around!! Thank you Citizen Rail!
Thank you Tev7, hurry back !
We have enjoyed brunch and happy hour here, so thought we would try their fixed price menu for NYE. there were four of us. Our server was very friendly, made recommendations that turned out well. We were there at 5:15 and the place was not very full. We told our server we were in no hurry. He later told us that he had told that to the kitchen. Nevertheless our first course was delivered almost as soon as our drinks. And my soup was cold. I reiterated to the server that this was not the pace we wanted. He assured us the kitchen had been informed. Almost immediately our main course arrived. I should know not to order steak when there is only one on the menu. It was average at best. My companions reported better results. After the main course we were visited by a manager who apologized and offered to hold desert for how ever long we wanted. At that point, what was the point? We shared the deserts which were quite good, and left. It was not the NYE experience we were anticipating.

First time dining at this restaurant on New Years Eve. The set menu was very good. I had the scallops and my husband the Osso buco, both meals were wonderful. The Desserts were excellent as well. Wines by the glass are over priced but this appears to be the norm these days, so no ordering of a second glass. Overall I highly recommend this restaurant and I was impressed that the chef came by our table to see if we were enjoying our meal. Nice place.
Great place, valet parking, amazing service and really went above and beyond for my dinner event! We will be back! Keep up the high standards!
The food was excellent. The service was awesome. I will definitely go again.
I definitely saw the potential but there were some disappointing issues. We went for a prix fix 3 course meal for $75 per person. The bone marrow was good but hardly any marrow and it was the last one before they ran out. The trout was excellent. The dinner we ordered the lamb which was good but got a little burnt from the fore more than the rest I saw come out. The dry aged strip was overcooked for medium rare and was only slightly pink in the center. The dessert we chose chocolate decadence which was great and the Lebowski ugly sweater mousse. This was frozen solid and the waitress apologized and brought us peppermint cheesecake which we didn’t want and was not good. The wine was excellent. Overall disappointed but saw the restaurant had potential. We watched cooking from the rail and saw significant inconsistencies in the seafood entree portion size of limp crab. Almost like they were trying to stretch it out. Finally the wait staff seemed knowledgeable but missing most of the time.
I have heard great things about citizen rail but was not pleased christmas night.

We love Citizen Rail and we’re thrilled to be there for the pre-fix Christmas dinner. The dishes were all creative, prepared perfectly, a great value, and delicious. It was truly the best short rib I’ve ever had prepared and my husband was delighted to see that they didn’t skimp at all on portion sizes so there was plenty left for him to get a good bite!
We love sitting at the chef’s counter. The seats are comfy, you aren’t on top of your neighbor and it’s fun to watch the chefs hard at work.
The food is what we love here, but the service and ambiance is what keeps us coming back. Do yourself a favor and book a table here!!
Thank you EmsEats , come back soon!
A delicious Christmas menu. Good and drinks were very good. And thoughtful, fun server who knew us stuff.
Great place! Fun atmosphere - we enjoy watching the chefs cook. Food and drinks are always delicious, and compared to other restaurants with similar food and qualityin the area, price is great.
We enjoyed a great dinner on Christmas Eve! The service was great and the food was too. Nice spot for a date night in downtown Denver.
We had a wonderful Christmas Eve dinner experience. Our server was friendly, knowledgeable, and entertaining. We shared the tomahawk steak, which was cooked just right. Our only complaint was there were limited dinner menu options for non steak eaters.
I've been here for happy hour numerous times and the apps we ordered were delicious, however our dinner was horrible. I ordered the butternut squash dish and couldn't eat more than one bite. My husband ordered a burger which was alright, nothing special. We were bummed since we frequent so much for quick, small bites.

The server was pretty awful. He would get upset and give us dirty looks every time we asked a question. He had zero patience. The food was okay. We’ve love the food in the past, but it seems like they’re slipping.
Good morning, I would like to hear more about your visit and sincerely apologize. Please contact me at your earliest convenience. email@example.com
We went early at 5:15 for my birthday. Parents night out without our young kids so it was early bird hour. Sat in bar area by the windows, super nice. Cocktails, wine and beer were all top notch.
My husband had the steak and I had pork chop. Very delicious. Had the Pimm’s Cup cocktail and a pino noir.
Our waiter was so kind and friendly, fast and professional. I wish I remembered his name - dark rimmed black glasses. Had amazing Big Lebowski dessert. Will absolutely be back.
Awesome downtown restaurant. Best diner I had while in town this time.
Prices outrages for food that falsely advertises the quality. They serve overpriced upscale bar food at best. Service awful and practically non existent. Waitress didn’t even ask how we wanted the burger cooked, then when burger came out more than over charred, she did nothing and seemed unphased. Ambience was awful and as loud as your average dive bar downtown. Would not recommend and will not be returning.
