Citizen Rail features regional American classics and contemporary riffs. The concept of grilling over a wood-fire resonates deep within the American culture, and our guests have a firsthand view of the show. An impressive wood-fired grill that incorporates the use of native hard and fruitwoods is the anchor of the restaurant space, kitchen, and menu. At its core, Citizen Rail is a restaurant that connects with the soul and fulfills Denver’s desire for restaurants & bars that are genuine, authentic and reflect the true passion of the artisans behind the stoves.

Service was very good and attentive for the most part. Server was friendly and personable. Food fell way short of expectations though. For a place that specializes in beef, they sure didn’t do a good job at cooking it properly. My wife’s burger was over cooked, completely dry and not enjoyable. We would have sent it back except that nobody checked on us until she was basically finished with the meal. My steak was over cooked as well (I asked for medium) but I didn’t say anything since it wasn’t as offensive as my wife’s.
Not sure if we will be coming back due to food quality. If I’m paying top dollar, I expect to get my money’s worth. This was not a meal that was worth the price paid.
Wow, the ribeye is unreal! Favorite hotel/restaurant for a nice weekend downtown
Delicious breakfast on a Sunday. Staff was friendly and accommodating. I will go back for another Sunday breakfast. I will probably try a weeknight dinner too.
We love it here!! Incredible food, great cocktails and wonderful service! Always our go-to date night spot!
The food was solid - nothing totally amazing but not completely disappointing either. I'd say it's probably a bit pricey for what you get, especially the $22 snack board that had one single piece of cheese.
Booked a table here to celebrate a birthday with some friends. I have always been impressed with the service and quality of Denver restaurants, so I was excited to try a new spot. Unfortunately this experience was a mess from the moment we walked in the door. We had a reservation for 8 and the restaurant called to confirm our table several hours before the reservation time, which was considerate and appreciated. We arrived at the restaurant on time and we were told that they were waiting for the group at our table to leave and then we would be seated. We understood and waited in the lobby. 40 minutes after our reservation time we were still standing in the lobby waiting on this table to leave and the restaurant was unwilling to ask them to leave. At this point, it’s 9:10 p.m. and the restaurant is closing at 10. We were finally seated and provided a few charcuterie boards to hold us over until we had a chance to order (which was very appreciated, I will say the restaurant made an effort to improve our experience). The service was slow and by the time our first round of drinks arrived at the table, we had to immediately order our next (and last) drink since the bar was about to close.
The group ordered a variety of items from the menu and none of the dishes were impressive. Several of the items were overcooked. The burger was undercooked. I honestly think the kitchen was just ready to close and didn’t put that much effort into making sure our orders were well executed.
I like to think I’ll give Citizen Rail another try in the future, but I would not recommend planning any sort of special occasion here. The experience really ruined the excitement of celebrating our friend’s birthday.
Citizen Rail is always an amazing experience. Great service, nice outdoor seating, and amazing food!
Customer service was exceptionally poor. Felt unwelcome, thus questioned why I chose this
Three of the four dishes we had did not meet the expectations we had for the price we paid. My partner did love the steak!
Amazing experience and nice touch with anniversary champagne. Will return ASAP.
The food is definitely not worth the price. The $18 cheeseburger I got wasn’t half as good as the $8 one from Tag burger bar. Go there instead and skip downtown!
Overall a good experience, it was our first time visiting and I had the porkchop which was great and my husband purchased the aged steak and it was slightly over cooked. We would go back
Was staying at the Kimpton Born over NYE and came here to eat for dinner. My husband and I ordered the baked potato as an appetizer which was really good, and then shared two entrees: ribeye and burger. The ribeye was awesome, a perfect medium rare with tasty potatoes and roasted broccolini. The burger however was underwhelming...almost tasteless and expected more since it was a mix of brisket. Service was just okay but adequate. Would dine here again when indoor dining is allowed again as restaurant is very modern and chic. Overall decent, just wish I would have ordered another steak instead of the burger.
Lovely outdoor seating. Good food, service and atmosphere. Food took a little long, but everything else was good so wasn’t a huge deal.
We ate here for NYE and had a wonderful experience. They were able to easily accommodate our last minute reservation. The food + drinks were 5 star. We all had the steak + lobster and ate every single bite. If we are ever back in the Denver area we will be back!
The cuisine was delicious and our server was polite and attentive.
Incredible experience all around
The Mrs and I went there for Christmas dinner. The service was good, everyone was polite. We ate outside in the tents and the food was great. We will definitely be back.
They’ve dressed up the outdoor tent for the holidays and have a great heating system. The seating was comfy and the service was so sweet. Food was also incredible - grillmaster killed it!! Great char, incredible flavor, cooked perfectly.
Great time at Citizen Rail!!
Best mussels I've had.
Citizen Rail has an awesome menu with something for everyone! We started with the Hearth Baked Fennel Pollen Rosemary Sourdough which was so tasty. The Butternut Squash Steak is phenomenal and the 30-day dry aged ribeye was perfect. Tent dining was a little chilly but we've also ordered pickup several times, one of our favorite restaurants in downtown!
Very good food! Elegant and delicious. The servers were very personable and kind. The management made the experience as comfortable as possible with the current COVID guidelines going on. It was 20 degrees outside and we sat in the tent without our coats on and were perfectly comfortable!
Awesome food and experience even under covid tent.
Creative menu and successful outdoor dining
We were dining in an manship
My husband, daughter, and I had Thanksgiving at Citizen Rail. I spent a long time looking at restaurants for the perfect Thanksgiving meal, and seeing the great reviews, decided to give CR a try. It was expensive ($75/person), but as a nurse who works and is in school full-time, I was willing to pay the money for an extraordinary experience. I don’t mind spending that kind of money on a meal when the experience is worth it. We dined in a tent (COVID restrictions), the chairs were uncomfortable, my husbands chair was number up right to the edge of the tent, the heaters were puny (ambiance). The food was decent but not spectacular. The duck was undercooked and chewy. The wine was over-priced and subpar. The experience was awful. The waiter never told us his name, he had us scan the menu and order everything at once (prefixed menu with starter, entree, and desert), and he delivered the food and filled our water glasses. My daughter and I had him box up our meals, which he put in one box. My daughter doesn’t even live with us, and I’m sorry, with COVID, why would someone even do that? He was an Applebee’s waiter at a nice dining establishment. We were seated at 3:15 and out the door by 4:15. I felt sick to my stomach that we paid that kind of money for the worst experience ever. For my friends 50th birthday, we had high tea at the Ritz in Paris. It cost $80/person, and it lasted for 4 hours. It was one of the finest experiences of my life. The same with going to Flagstaff House, or the Greenbriar in Boulder. Eating out is not just about the food. It is about the experience. I cannot believe CR felt they could justify those prices with such a crappy experience. I will never go back. They need to put more thought and training into the waitstaff they hire.

Not worth $95 for the meal and not worth $15 for the glass of wine.

The food was ok but not nearly as flavorful as compared to other restaurants of this caliber.
The food/drinks/service was good but unfortunately, I became violently sick a few hours after eating. I ordered the ribeye and it was extremely undercooked, not wanting to say anything because the rest of the meal was great I ate it. The next day we contacted the manager to inform him and all he had to say was sorry. At over $100 a head I would expect a little better customer service than that.
Interesting, unique food combinations. Like nothing I've ever tried before.
Was excited to go downtown for the first time in several months. This restaurant was recommended to me by friends. We were sorely disappointed.
Service by Shelby was sad. Food was mediocre. We were outside in a loud tent. Covid is one thing but other servers actually cared about their tables. Ours was MIA and got order wrong more than once. Wine was way late to table. Check was wrong. What the hell?

Great food, great service.
Beautiful restaurant, awesome food, and gave us a special treat while celebrating. Highly recommend.
The food was very unique and tasted good. My husband got the 30 Day Dry Aged Ribeye and it was superb! The staff was very attentive. We went for Denver Restaurant Week and thought it was a great price. However, I don’t think I would be willing to pay the usual prices for the amount of food we received.
It was a fun evening out enjoying Denver Restaurant week. The food was very good, however we asked for our burger to be medium and it came out very raw. Aside from that small issue, our prime rib and strip steaks were excellent. Great food presentation! Our server was great too!
Excellent service, amazing food and lovely atmosphere! Best squash salad I have ever had!!!
Where to even start. Came here for restaurant week with my partner and was so disappointed from start to finish. For starter we got the beet salad and chowder. The beet salad was fine but very basic. The chowder was watery and not good. For the second course we got the burrata salad and the twice baked baked Yukon potato. Potato dish had good flavors but was cold, burrata was watery and bland. For main course I got the hickory Boulder lamb rack and this was just awful. It was Impossible to cut through because it was so fatty. Barely ate any of it. And, realized on my way home that they didn't include the kale or the Italian sausage that it was supposed to come with......giving it Two stars only because the server and drinks were great!
Really enjoyed the aged ribeye and lamb. Service was excellent
