Citizen Rail features regional American classics and contemporary riffs. The concept of grilling over a wood-fire resonates deep within the American culture, and our guests have a firsthand view of the show. An impressive wood-fired grill that incorporates the use of native hard and fruitwoods is the anchor of the restaurant space, kitchen, and menu. At its core, Citizen Rail is a restaurant that connects with the soul and fulfills Denver’s desire for restaurants & bars that are genuine, authentic and reflect the true passion of the artisans behind the stoves.

Went to brunch for my sons birthday. Had a nice table next to the windows on the bar side. Waiter was really friendly, happy, and polite. Had a birthday pancake for my son. Food was really good, special of the day was pork belly bowl. Burger was cooked perfectly and had great flavor. Oatmeal and quinoa was really good as well Would love to try for dinner sometime when back in town
The staff was very attentive and friendly! We were seated right away and was given an explanation of the different items on the menu. We received our food very quickly and thoroughly enjoyed our plates. If I were to give any feedback, I would say that the ahi tuna dish can be a little less salty.
The food was exceptional and great service! We were a little apprehensive at first because the menu was pretty limited, but everything we had was amazing! My husband and I shared the heirloom tomato salad and loved it! I had the ricotta dumplings and they were delicious! My husband and son both had the burger and said it was the best burger they’ve ever had. Highly recommend!
Had a wonderful dinner on the patio at Citizen Rail last night. Hubby and I shared a dish from each course and we were very impressed with everything we ordered. Fantastic flavors, perfect portion sizes and unique pairings. Highly recommend this restaurant!
Good food, the stake was amazing. But who puts watermelon in a soup that was weird. But overall everything was good.
3 members of my party ordered the 30 day aged ribeye. Salty, tough, slightly overcooked, and overpriced.
The portions and the price of the food is disappointing.
The food was incredible, the ambiance was incredible , and our server was fabulous. My Client said the ribeye was the best steak she’s had and the duck breast was incredible too. I have been to some of the top restaurants and this one will be on my list every time I come to Denver.
Went for a birthday and had amazing food, amazing service and they brought us a small bit of Champagne at the end.
Our server was Mo. Fabulous service, perfect. Took my sister for her 50th. As nice a table we could get, very good food…..loved the appetizer ( cheese, meat tray) and the dessert was incredible. I’d come back for sure, if Mo was our server!
Food was fabulous, staff was fun and gave great recommendations. We had a wonderful dinner before heading to the Van Ghoh Immersive.
Excellent food and service. The Corn Soup is amazing - definitely try it ! Our server, Brittany, was 5-Star Top Notch. Next visit to Denver we will definitely dine here!
My boyfriend took me there for my birthday dinner and the food and the service was fantastic! I had the duck breast and he had the pork chop. Both wonderful. Will def go back!
Service was spectacular. They went out of their way to make sure I could have the right table to watch the MLB playoff game. Bartenders were able to make a drink that I brought to them from a different restaurant even though they’d never heard of it. My GF and I split the burger and duck breast. Both were excellent!
Fabulous service, soup was delivered cold and they made it right. Wonderful menu.
Food and service was excellent. Noisy for a small restaurant.
Our waitress was incredible and so helpful with even a little cheat sheet she had personally made to help vegetarians and vegans order a fabulous meal. We loved being outside, weather was perfect. The bar didn't have a wide selection and had limited mixers (no ginger ale, no 7-Up, so the bartender just dumped Sprite into the glass and handed it over, like that was the same thing!) The pork chop was excellent as were the mussels! Would highly recommend either dish.
Great spot. Food was awesome. Great service at the bar and in the restaurant.
Ribeye cooked perfectly, excellent cocktail selection and a super fun bar staff! Great spot for a date or drinks before a concert/game.
Loved it! It was our anniversary trip and they treated us really nice 😊Really love the food! Umm the duck was amazing! Our service was spectacular and the ambience was romantic!
Our waiter was great, very attentive and the food was good. The appetizers and salads were delicious, but I just felt like the entrees were't worth the hype. The desserts sounded so terrible, we didn't even order-not a problem I usually run into.
This place was okay, but not great. It's got the right ingredients to be a cool spot, but is relatively empty (has been the few times I've been there) and the food is just okay, not great.
The service was very good and the noise level was fine. But perhaps some investment in ambience, some directed marketing to locals and some warmth..it feels a bit cold.
Our waiter was great, but the food was so so. I didn’t find anything very special, just average brunch food
Sat outside and enjoyed a beautiful night. The table we sat at wasn’t much to be desired as the outdoor patio is just okay, but the food was really good.
Drinks were good - but we got there fairly early before our concert and ordered and app and a burger to split. The burger took 50 minutes to get to our table and the “truffle fries” were nothing but fries. The manager ended up comping the meal - but rightfully so. The wait to split a burger caused us to be late for our concert and miss the entire opening set. Normally this place is good but service overall this time wasn’t the best.
Happy hour with my team was good. The food was great and the drinks were interesting!
The server was fantastic, and the dishes were great. Tried a new cocktail that I really liked, and the server made great recommendations for the table. Couldn't finish it all, but what we did manage was very very good.
Went here as this spot was on the list to try. The menu was simple - which isn’t a bad thing - but the price point and general appeal with the menu could improve based on the nearby restaurants and trying to differentiate but keep to value with the pricing. The $31-50 price point listed on open table isn’t correct. Just to make sure this helps anyone to know. It’s more like $39 lowest dish on the item up to the $140 top price, which is a dry aged tomahawk for two. But you can go to quality Italian restaurant and get an amazing shared meat for half the price. But I recognize all meats are different. It’s more to get an understanding of their menu price range and offerings.
For example, they have a 30-day dry aged 14 ounce ribeye. Very tasty but it was $65 dollars and one of the only steak options on the menu. There should be a better price point selection of steak where someone who maybe doesn’t want the top tier can try a middle tier first and convert to a top tier. Perhaps at the $45 price point where the duck and chicken sat. There was basically one option for each food type - chicken, seafood, beef, pork, and duck. Again, not a bad thing but there wasn’t enough sell or differentiating appeal across these to easily be impressed by the description or offerings to the plate. At least not at the price point listed for each dish. If the price points sat lower this would have been an expected menu. I guess what I’m saying is this is a restaurant trying to be an Elway’s but also a Williams and Graham. I’m not sure I understand who they wanted to be as clear. With more customer experience, menu offering, and consideration to the price points I think it can improve. Didn’t hate anything but didn’t walk away feeling the bill total was valued, the menu was enough to recommend or refer friends, and that this would be a spot to return. A good one time experience.
It was our first time in and we thought we would try a restaurant recommended by yelp for his 50th birthday. We enjoy shareables as well as the option to have entree sized portions so the ability to have both is ideal making Citizen Rail a perfect fit for what we were seeking. The ambiance is great. Whether we were sitting near the kitchen or anywhere else in the dining room the vibe and warmth of the restaurant made it a very nice evening. The hosts were warm and welcoming and our server was awesome.
We both started with cocktails, which pleased us and for shared the cured salmon and salt roasted beets which was my favorite. We also went with a salad (nice sized portion) which was the baby red oak lettuce. Delicious!
Our server paced our courses and wine service perfectly. The pork chop was excellent. The mole that it used is very good. Lastly, the restaurant is located in a very walkable area which makes it ideal for meeting up with groups or a cute date night spot. I highly recommend making a reservation.
My husband and I went to Citizen Rail last night to celebrate our anniversary. We discovered this restaurant during Denver Restaurant Week and were thrilled to return for the full menu of options.
The most important aspect of a meal, of course, is the food; which was OUTSTANDING! The atmosphere was very pleasant with people around, but not so much to feel crowded or too loud.
The only downside to our experience was the service. I like to give people the benefit of the doubt, so perhaps our server was new, but there were a couple of misteps along the way. First, when she approached the table, I was surprised to not be asked if we were celebrating anything. Since we were, I was hoping to be able to say so. Then after clearing our plates she disappeared for 20 minutes. Since we needed to be aware of the time, I know how long it was. Then she asked if we wanted dessert?! That's the kind of question to be asked when the plates are being cleared. My husband then gave her the credit card to move the service along since he was afraid we may not see her again.
This will not impact our desire to return, but it was still just a crimp in an otherwise lovely dinner. I share this only to offer an opportunity for improvement since a high-end meal comes with an expectation of a service level.
Amazing food and service
We enjoyed brunch and the very friendly, professional staff!
Everything was perfect. Service was great and food was delicious.
Food was cold. No seasoning. Very expensive for the quality.
Excellent food and sitting at the kitchen counter was very entertaining and helped solidify our menu selections.
Our pre-concert dinner was fabulous!
Our service was lacking and the food was too expensive for us to have been treated that way.
Family in town
I wasn't all that impressed with our meal. The service was good and the wine was excellent. Looks like they had some really interesting and delicious cocktails but I didn't have any. Overall I'm not sure I would be back It seemed a little spendy for what we got.
