We visited Citizen Rail for Sunday brunch because of its proximity to The Crawford Hotel where we were staying. With reservations, we were seated promptly at a window table. The ambience was just okay, nothing particularly memorable and the brunch offerings were somewhat limited. I took the recommendation of our server and ordered the Poached Eggs + Greens and was glad that I did. It was an excellent dish and perfect with a glass of Veltliner.
This was the second time we went to Citizen Rail. Our waiter was awesome. We had him the last time too. Very helpful and accommadating. The food was great and the drinks are amazing. Thank you
We were at Citizen Rail for out 10th anniversary. When we arrived we were quickly seated and introduced to our waitress Lauren. She was fantastic. We started out with drinks and appetizers. The drinks were exceptional. For appetizers we got the potato cake/sturgeon (fantastic) and the oysters (great but over priced for 3 tiny oysters). The next course was the Charcuterie board, it was great. For our main course we ordered the 48oz Tomahawk with Potatoes, Asparagus, and mushrooms on the side as well as 3 steak sauces. The first slight frustration was that the website listed the Tomahawk at ~$98 but once at the restaurant it was listed at $129. It was our anniversary so we figured why now go ahead and spend the extra, we love a good tomahawk steak. When the food arrived we only got the steak. After a couple minutes of waiting for the sides and sauces, I decided to go ahead and start cutting the steak to share with my wife, usually we have had our tomahawk steaks delivered pre cut, I was very surprise as this is what I saw in the pictures from previous guest. When I was done cutting, a lady shows up to the take to let me know they could cut the rest of it for us. This was a big miss. She asked if I needed anything else. I let her know we were still waiting on sides and sauces. About 3 minutes later they all arrived. The potatoes and asparagus were fantastic, the mushrooms were burnt charred. Thankfully as soon as I let lauren know, she took the dish and had a new dish ready for me in less than a minutes. The steak itself was good, but didn't stand out from other steaks I have enjoyed. For dessert we had the decadence cake with ice cream, it was good, but not memorable. Over all, we really did enjoy ourselves. The drinks/apps definitely made up for other areas of the meal. Lauren was fantastic. And they covered the cost of our sides and dessert as an anniversary gift. Our bill was $260 pre tip. We would comeback for a happy hour.
Great location and incredible food!
We planned a date night and made a reservation for a Friday evening at 6:30. We were seated right away and the restaurant filled quickly as we sat perusing the menu.
Drinks were priced right around where you would think for craft cocktails and actually more affordable than the next joint we hit in Union Station. They took a good while to arrive but they were well made and delish.
When we do date night we like to do small plates and share a lot so we ordered some items from the starters area, the salad area, and an entrée to split. We were excited to try out their tomahawk steak, priced online at $96, but in store it was actually around $40 more. We asked the server and he said it is really market priced based on the meat provider.
Service was a bit on the slow side; Our server did not take our menus once we ordered like others around us. He also did not take the rest of our meal order after we put in for appetizers till after we had finished them.
For our first course we ordered the sourdough knot and the mussels. I asked the server how many mussels we were looking at and he said a good amount, around a pound. I will tell you this. We could have ended our meal with just those mussels and our drinks. They were delicious and there were so many of them! My wife enjoyed the sourdough knot more than I but the compote was great.
Next was our salad; this is where the server had done the task of ordering the food split amongst two plates which was greatly appreciated as we are normally fine picking from the same plate but this was great. Unfortunately, the expediter delivered our entrée prior to our salads and this cause some commotion amongst the server and the manager.
Our server and the manager came by to apologize and to offer to comp our salad course and dessert. We thought this was overly generous as we are not that fussy of people. We greatly appreciated this gesture. The server sent over their three layer chocolate cake and it was great.
The food was good the noise level intolerable. Will not go back or recommend to any one.
Great dinner find, with healthy food options, and great wine and beer selections. Very energetic vibe in bar and dining area.
Our new go-to! Loads of dairy and gluten free options, and very attentive wait staff and management that made sure everything worked with those restrictions. Shared the bone-in ribeye—tender, savory. Asparagus and duck fat potatoes, perfect. Wonderful server, cool atmosphere. Yokohama coconut flavored Japanese whiskey cocktail—wow!
The food was good. No ambiance. Noise level was unacceptable
Bartender made it great!!
Drinks were on point!
Food... not so much!
But I would still come for apps & drinks, service was exceptional!
Service very friendly and helpful. Great food. Veal chop special was superb. Don’t live in Denver but would eat there again if I did.
Although the food was pretty good it was terribly overpriced and therefore will not visit again. Also the level of service and ambience did not measure up to entree’s costing $30 + dollars.
Our server Nicole was superb!!! The food was wonderful. We fully enjoyed our dining experience.
Celebrated my fiancé’s birthday! We had a wonderful experience. The food was amazing! We had the tomahawk steak! The service was great! They really made sure we had a wonderful birthday celebration!
the steak was amazing--just the right amount of everything. short rib was to die for as well. please keep going back and try one of everything!
We're business travelers from out of town. We asked a couple of our local colleagues for a restaurant recommendation and Citizen Rail was highly recommended. The location, vibe and service were great but unfortunately the food was a disappointment. Appetizers were good but small portions (I had 3 small oysters) and my co-worker had the potato cake. Her chicken was flavorless while my short rib was just okay.
Great ambiance, and amazing brunch food. Skip the line at Snooze and come here for some real food!
Arrived way late so it was a quiet. We were quickly served and food was good. I would go back.
Citizen Rail is a must for people you enjoy a good steak, attentive service and stylish surroundings.
The food was OK but did not live up to the price. Everything else was great though.
We were in town for our anniversary weekend. I wanted to book something special to celebrate. I saw that Citizens Rail had good reviews and had tables available.
Our server was awesome, very knowledgeable and had exceptional customer service.
The food is very expensive, which was expected, but was not good. I ordered the steak, á la carte with an order of broccoli. The steak was good, but the broccoli was extremely burned and covered in a terrible sauce, which was not stated in the menu.
My wife had fish which was undercooked and served over beans, which she felt was a terrible combination.
For the price, I expected the food to be better.
Sadly, we left still hungry and had to go to another restaurant.
Service was amazing - loved our waiter. He was honest and attentive. Sommelier wine recs were great. Food was very good and well executed just not that unique or adventurous. Ambiance was nice.
Second time coming here, great place amazing entrees!
We had a great experience. Specifically, our waiter Van was outstanding, He was right on with cocktail and appetizer recommendations based on what we discussed and then we just sort of had him tell us what to eat. Went before a Pepsi Center concert and is great for before the show and walking distance to Pepsi or DCPA.
I had the Bison steak (special) and we also had an appetizer of octopus. All excellent. After dinner drink menu had some great liqeurs you do not see that often.
Amazing staff and food
It was our anniversary and they couldn’t have been nicer and more celebratory in a subdued way - such great hospitality!! The food was delicious - every morsel!!
Great Service! Good good! Fun Place!
I had another wonderful dinner at Citizen Rail. Sitting at the Chefs Counter is a real treat and the food is to die for. The staff are all really fun to chat with. My new favorite place in Denver!
Best restaurant in Denver.
Love the mussels. Could drink that broth, so glad they brought extra bread. The server and bartender went out of their way to make a drink that was an old favorite; Dark Territory. I hope they bring it back on the “best of” list. Great evening!
A little noisy due to hard surfaces but otherwise a terrific evening.
Service was great! Celebrated a friend's birthday and they made it very special. Food and drinks were amazing!
We had a reservation and were sat out right away. After waiting about 10 to 15 minutes we had to flag someone over to wait on us. The server was very kind and right away she decided to take over. When she returned I asked about the menu because I was unclear on some things. She said “it’s really very self explanatory if you come a few times” honestly I have eaten in a variety of restaurants around the world and I did not feel your menu was very self-explanatory. It left you guessing as to what you might be getting. The wine menu also had no descriptions just the name and dates of the wines. When our food came it was pretty good. The salad I had though did resemble a head of lettuce that had been thrown in a campfire. All in all I would say the experience was OK and not something I would recommend for the price.
We had 8 people for a business dinner, several from DC. Everyone was impressed. The food was fabulous and we tested a lot of it ordering enough for 16 people. Would highly recommend it. It’s a little loud, but service and food and location are terrific.
Great service, delicious food and intimate patio feel for being right downtown.
Service, food, location, and overall feel was excellent! The chairs for the 2 person tables were not fabulous, unless you want a quick one course meal. The chairs/stools looked cool, but we were ready to go by the end of our meal—even with our amazing service!
This place was absolutely lovely. The outdoor seating area was pleasant, and the noise from the street wasn't distracting. The food was amazing, and our server was absolutely fantastic. Absolutely would recommend.
Started at the bar because we arrived early and had amazing drinks with very attentive and please bartenders. Once we got to the table the service continued to be outstanding, the server helped us pick out wines, and brought us tasters to try. The meal was lovely - the char on the lamb from the wood grill was so delicious and done perfectly.
