concept of grilling over a wood-fire resonates deep within the American culture,
and our guests have a firsthand view of the show. An impressive wood-fired
grill that incorporates the use of native hard and fruitwoods is the anchor of the
restaurant space, kitchen, and menu. At its core, Citizen Rail is a restaurant that
connects with the soul and fulfills Denver’s desire for restaurants & bars that are
genuine, authentic and reflect the true passion of the artisans behind the stoves.

This was our third visit here and the first time for brunch. Citizen Rail's first big advantage is that it actually takes reservations for brunch. The food is always excellent, service is attentive and it is a great location.
Wow. I had the butter lettuce salad and the pork chop entree and both were amazing. Also tried a couple of their signature cocktails and will be dreaming about them for some time. Top it all off with very attentive service and I will definitely be back.
Service and knowledge and exuberance about the menu was wonderful. Food was delicious. Great selections
all the way round. Had a large table seated by us and was a little difficult to hear for a bit, but settled down (and we didn’t ask to be moved...certain the staff would have accommodated us). We’ll be back.
We had an outstanding waiter and delicious food! I'm excited to come back and try it again.
Have dined here numerous times but this occasion was disappointing
Food was over cooked
The placed was packed so perhaps the kitchen was overwhelmed
Server was great
Excellent recommendations. Gave us a free dessert for birthday dinner
We stopped here for dinner before a show at the Buell Theater. The experience was so extraordinary that all of our party is still talking about it! Started in the bar with a couple drink combos. Fun way to have a cocktail. Next were the wood fired oysters... one word, awesome. The tomahawk steak was cooked to perfection, as expected! The real star of the show though was our server Joe!! He made the evening something extra special. We look forward to our next visit!
Our family came for a nice dinner and we loved every second. Every single thing we ordered was delicious and the kids burger was a huge hit with my son. The service was impeccable with a great ambiance, making for a wonderful evening.
The service was incredible (Joe), drinks were on point (Corey & Chris), the management staff, Alex and Tiffany made sure all was exceptional! Top notch from entry to exit!
Food was good but not amazing. Order two lattes and they came out room temperature, then ordered oatmeal and biscuits and gravy. Both came out room temp which was disappointing. The food was good but could've been ten times better if it was served hot
we iked it. brady was a great waiter.
Excellent service and food was delicious
Denver prices seem really high now. Food was good but definitely overpriced as is most of the stuff around there. Wine is really overpriced. A glass of wine is $16 or $18. A glass!
I've been to Citizen Rail many times for several different occasions: dates, business meetings, and family gatherings. Great food, good ambiance, and some of the best cocktails in Denver. I highly recommend the restaurant.
Overall it was a fantastic experience. My only complaint is I wish we had been told we’d be sitting in the bar area and not the dinning room. Would have preferred the dinning room.
Thank you for your review! I will address with our host team immediately.
Citizen Rail blew me away. The beef tartare was delicate, and ribeye incredibly crisp but juicy, the blackened butternut squash was very flavorful, and the desserts just the right size. Looking forward to my next trip!
Great, we are open 7 days a week, three meals a day!
Great coffee and waiter. Kind of loud though.
Horrible food, burnt burgers; the potato cake was too salty; the smoked lamb was tasting like an old reheated stew; it wasn't cooked to order. The service was indifferent; the waiter got upset when I ordered no alcohol.
Citizen Rail is a lunchtime favorite, but this was our first dinner visit. The menu has some great choices for starters/small plates, but is pretty limited and expensive on the entrees. We ended sharing two starters (excellent), and each had the burger as the entree. Very tasty but ordered them medium well and they arrived more on the medium rare end of the spectrum. This is a special gripe of mine--culinary schools should teach how to cook meat to order, and the concept that everyone likes (or should like) seared on the outside, raw on the inside, meat is faulty to say the least. Overall a good dinner, we'll definitely return for lunch, less likely for dinner.
Terrible service. Ruined our celebration.
Good evening, my name is Jason Gordon and I am the General Manager at Citizen Rail. I am disapponted to read about your experience, please reach out to me directly firstname.lastname@example.org
This place has never disappointed me! Favorite steakhouse in Denver!
This is a nice restaurant but service was spotty and while most of the food was very good, the pumpkin bread was dry and inedible.
I would not return here.
First, the good.
Manager very friendly
Comped a steak that was not eaten because it was cooked rare though ordered medium.
Now, the bad...
It did not meet our expectations. Might have been I didn’t do enough homework to level set my expectations but thought it would be better.
It is not your typical steakhouse- more like a high end cafe in terms of tables and booths. Round table tops with high back bar stools.
1. We were seated at one of the round wooden tabletops with the high backed bar chairs. I would have expected a better table given that we had made reservations 2 weeks in advance. Tables had no linens so pretty informal venue.
2. NO Filet Mignon! What kind of steakhouse does not offer a filet?
3. I ordered a New York steak- medium. It came out very rare. I sent it back and it came back rare again. By this time, everyone had finished eating so we just asked for the check. They did not not charge us for the uneaten, rare steak.
4. Bottom line, it is a poor choice if you are looking for a good steakhouse.
Emily provides great service. There is a great selection and all of the food was wonderful. We’ll be back. The mussels were fantastic, great selection of cocktails and salads, and wonderful entrees.
The Brussels sprouts are amazing.
The service and food quality is amazing.
Service was slow, and I had to ask the waiter every time for a coffee refill, since they never asked. When we first arrived seating was very slow, and we asked to sit on the bar side since there were several tables next to windows open, but was told they only sit there if there is a crowd even though it was half full. That made no sense to me. The food was good.
The mussels and octopus were out of this world. Good energy and friendly staff. Can't wait to try brunch there.
My girlfriend & I went for a date night. Everything was great minus my fish was a tad dry and the portion size was smaller than anticipated considering the price. We had a great evening otherwise.
Felt rushed the entire evening until it was time for the check and then our waiter had vaporized
15 Minutes to be greeted by a server way to long to wait with a reservation. The server finally came up and apologized "sorry the table over there ordered the Dom Perignon" I thought to myself uh okay so that means we have to wait? We were ready to order everything at that point and time so I ordered a appetizer it came out fairly quickly and was delicious it was steamed mussels. The server then asked if we would like more bread for the juice in the bottom of the bowl we thought that sounded great. 35 minuets later entrees came out no bread the server checked multiple times with the kitchen but no bread ever showed up. We ordered steaks and my sons steak was burned and he asked for it to be cooked medium mine was okay but I asked medium rare and it was more medium to medium well. We were done and the server chuckled as we had been there nearly two hours if we would like to try dessert, I said no we better get out of here while we are still alive. The server again apologized and brought the bill with the mussels comped.
The food was incredible. We ordered the mussels as an app, and that could have easily been a meal in itself. Then we did the short rib and dry aged ribeye, and again, both were so good.
The service on the other hand-no so much. Right when we were sat I got up to use the restroom. My dad ordered me a glass of wine when I was gone. 10 minutes after I got back from the restroom, the waitress came up and had to “make sure” that I wanted a drink, meaning she hasn’t even put in the order for my wine. After saying yes, it took another 15 minutes to get the first glass of wine. Then we had to flag her down to place our food order.
Probably would go back, based on the food, but if the service is the same, it’ll only be a one time return.
Flew in to Denver for a day trip into Rocky Mountain National Park and finished the day with Counter Service at Citizen Rail. Loved it! Great cocktails, awesome service and an enjoyable meal. I will return next trip back!
The food was great and the service was impeccable. It was startlingly good. It's the best service I've had at a Lodo Restaurant.
Very expensive for what it is, the manager comped almost everything we ordered as very little came the way we ordered it or done right, for example, more capers than meat in the very tiny steak tartare. Not worth the money at all.
I enjoyed the visit. The space is nice and the food was good. My only issue was related to our seating assignment. We booked a reservation for a table at noon, but they seated us at the high top area near the kitchen. We did enjoy watching the chefs cook; however, we would have preferred a table.
Very nice facility. Wasn’t sure that the waitress new about the cut of beef. It was aged but when asked if it was a “Prime” grade she hesitated and said yes. I don’t think it was. Overall experience was very good.
Great place for breakfast/brunch. Short distance from Denver Union Station.
Had my birthday dinner at Citizen Rail, we loved it and the food was great!!
Wow! This place rocks! It has an amazing vibe, a gorgeous atmosphere and the food is to die for! My husband had the lamb and he swears that it is the best lamb that he has ever had. Everything is delicious and beautiful! Our server, Lauren, was so attentive and knowledgeable. We had lots of questions and she had lots of answers and suggestions. We will definitely be back!
