About Circa 1886
Chef Marc Collins draws inspiration from many cuisines around the world to create a menu that is truly unique to the Charleston restaurant scene. Drawing inspiration from historic Southern dishes and always highlighting what is local and in season, Chef Collins puts a healthful, distinctive spin on classic Lowcountry dishes. This means there is less butter and cream than typically seen on Southern menus. Whole grains are incorporated to dishes and ingredients are used at the peak of flavor. The result is satisfying dishes that retain their bright, bold flavors without the large amounts of fat found in many restaurant dishes. From our Plantation Rice Bread Rolls made in house daily, to the selection of local seafood, to Pastry Chef Lovorn’s incredible desserts, each dinner at Circa 1886 celebrates the region we call home. Let our professional, attentive, experienced and knowledgeable staff guide you through the menu and help select a wine that is a perfect pairing for food and budget.

Circa 1886 Ratings and Reviews
The epitome of Charleston fine dining!!
Arrive early to enjoy the ambience at the bar, as well as the divine cocktails!
Would kill for the white peach grits recipe, would settle for an order the size of a sand pail.
Service, ingredients, preparation, presentation -all a complete delight!
Enough of a reason for a trip to Charleston.
And the bourbon smash at the bar was soooo A++++!
Had an anniversary dinner here and Circa 1886 made sure to make it very special. We were treated like royalty - very friendly service, wonderful food, comfortable ambiance. I’m vegetarian and they were very accommodating to my needs. Thank you, Circa 1886 for making our first anniversary such a memorable experience.
Circa 1886 was probably the best dining experience I have had in Charleston. We celebrated our one year wedding anniversary and the staff went above and beyond to make it special for us. The atmosphere is perfect - elegant, classy, quiet. The food was phenomenal. Our server Emily was extremely attentive and knowledgeable. We will definitely return.
I was told that Circa 1886 was an experience not to be missed. After one evenings dinner I must say it is true. What an exceptional meal, ambience, and service!!! Austin, our waiter, knows the food and the wines. Three of the four of us had the chefs five course meal with wine pairings. The food was beyond delicious and each wine paired spectacularly with each dish. The variety was a party for your tastebuds. Don’t miss out on experience.
Circa 1886 was everything it was billed as... from the walking through a beautiful garden to arrive at the front door to the stunning presentation of each food course. Ann, our waitstaff, was impeccable—-providing the kind of service one expects at a 5star restaurant—-while not being overbearing. We have eaten at many great Charleston restaurants—had wonderful food—and do not plan on returning. Not that there is anything wrong with the restaurant—-more that there are MANY great restaurants in town. This restaurant we definitely WILL RETURN ago visit—-and were already scheming who we would take with us.
Excellent food, particularly the antelope and my wife enjoyed the chicken fried salmon.
We were here on vacation from Scotland and have to say Southern Hospitality really exists! Not the cheapest meal that we have had in America but as the saying goes you get what you pay for and we definitely got what we paid for! Excellent service, food and ambiance!
Need we say more??
We were passing through Charleston, and were only going to be there for a night, and chose Circa 1886 for our one dinner . We were not disappointed. Food, service, location, and ambiance were all outstanding. This is a world-class restaurant that could hold its own in New York, London, or Paris.
This was our first visit to Circa 1886. The servers were very polite and personable. Our waitress was able to tell us in detail about all of the items on the menu. The food was very beautiful and innovative. My husband and I went for our anniversary and they provided a personalized dining experience for us in honor of our anniversary. I have no complaints about this restaurant and would recommend it to anyone looking for a romantic evening.
The restaurant week deal was outstanding! I had the pork belly app, antelope as the main course, and pumpkin soufflé for dessert. All were fantastic! My date had the same but ordered the beef Piedmontese which was equally as delicious. Great service and excellent wine selection!
Tried this restaurant for the first time Friday night, (restaurant week), wasn't expecting it to be terrific, because usually restaurants during restaurant week are too busy to pay attention to detail, I was wrong, wrong, wrong. The service, from Caitlyn, was outstanding only matched by the restaurant week menu. Everything was perfectly prepared and served piping hot, only to be beaten by the dessert, the Caramel Apple Cake, one of the best desserts I've ever had.
Had dinner at Circa 1886 to celebrate anniversary. Second time at this restaurant. The food and service were top of the line. It is pricey but good for special occasions. Enjoyed an enclosed booth which made the evening very cozy. The restaurant was full and the conversation level around us was lively but not too noisy. Will consider this restaurant again for other special occasions.
