View Private Dining DetailsAwesome restaurant. Service was amazing. Food was incredible. I had the Antelope. Perfectly cooked.
Food was wonderfully presented and excellent
The service (Anne) was outstanding
Food exceptional, a little pricy but experience was great!
What a wonderful restaurant ,great food, great atmosphere, and great service
Our waiter was very knowledgeable about the menu items. My husband had antelope that was excellent and recommended by the waiter. It was cooked to perfection and was not gamey. They brought some complimentary appetizers that were very unique. It was our anniversary dinner and we did not feel rushed. When my husband left the table a new napkin was brought to his plate. Everything was done elegantly. There is also outdoor seating and a lovely bar area. It was too chilly to sit outside, but on a nice night it would be very welcoming.
We will definitely go back in the future. The dinner and ambiance was worth the price.
My wife had sea bass and I had scallops, both of which were very good and would get again. There is an extensive wine list and several to choose by the glass which we prefer. Service was impeccable. It was very nice to enjoy our anniversary in a refined, elegant restaurant without the noise and clamor that is typical of so many restaurants.
Wonderful anniversary dinner! Cannot recommend this lovely restaurant enough. The service, food and ambiance were top notch. The food was not the heavy, stereotypically southern style (fried, drenched in butter, cream, etc.) Rather, it was fresh, flavorful and delicious. Despite the lack of "heaviness" we were so full we couldn't quite finish our spectacular desserts. Since we were staying at the Wentworth Mansion this actually ended up being one of our more affordable fine dining experiences in Charleston (a city with some pretty pricey restaurants) and that was an added bonus. Regardless of whether we stay at the hotel again (which we definitely want to do) we will be sure to dine at Circa 1886 during future trips to Charleston!
Dinner was delightful! Many different taste combinations and surprises. We will definitely return.
Circa 1886's reputation is well-earned.
Special evening with excellent service and awesome presentation.
My wife and ent for our first anniversary. It was one of the best restaurants I have ever been to! They custom printed menus for us saying "happy anniversary" on top, the waiter Denis was funny, polite, knowledgeable, and he made it a point to thank us for coming down from Massachusetts to spend our night with them. The dessert came out with "Happy Anniversary" written in chocolate. They gave us a free champagne toast. And the food ... oh my God. My wife had Antelope and I has sea scallops. Perfectly cooked and seasoned. Go here! You will not be disappointed. I would have paid double for the experience. Thank you!
65th birthday dinner with my family. Lovely venue, exceptional food and warm, attentive service. Never missed a beat. Would recommend it to anyone without hesitation.
Great food and great service! Our waitress was excellent, great hospitality. Will come back
Food and service were amazing!
Amazing food and service, expensive, but worth it for the experience.
Incredible food
Beautiful presentation!
Fantastic service!
Wonderful meal. Waiter Austin was so knowledgeable and charming. Gorgeous place.
This was an outstanding experience. The food and service were top notch in every way.
The parsnip puree with my appetizer was so fresh and had the texture of velvet. I spent years teaching teens to cook so this was a special treat for me to dine here with my husband to celebrate our 40th anniversary. The dessert with mango, guava and passion fruit was so delicious that I had to work hard to control noises coming from my mouth. I did "happy dancing " in my seat, however. Lovely, lovely meal!
Best service and fantastic meal. Austin was wonderful!
It’s a pleasure to experience food prepared to harmonize over all it ingredients. There were two complementary amuse-bouches; a seared tuna and a absolutely silken broccoli cheddar soup (fantastic!). We loved the pork cheek and braised artichoke appetizers. For the main course I had the coffee-rubbed antelope, sweet potatoes, collards and peppers. Meat was excellent and perfectly cooked. The greens and sweet potatoes combination was one of the perfect balances bringing the sweet creaminess of the potatoes with the vinegary bite of the greens together. My wife enjoyed the Kaffir lime blackened catfish, with crab Mac and cheese. Our server, Austin, was exceptional. He also recommended a nice wine that worked well with both our entrees despite the meat-fish spread. For special occasion dining In Charleston this is the place to go.
Our server was amazing from her personality, to her recommendations, to service. We got a duck dish and a scallop dish. Both were beyond tasty! The chef's compliments of the tuna and broccoli/cheese soup were so good it made you want more! One thing that was a nice touch, was the gluten free bread they offered when I mentioned I had Celiac and needed to be gluten free. And it was very good bread! This was our first time there and we loved the atmosphere. Very romantic!
We enjoyed our evening. It’s a beautiful restaurant. We found the menu a bit limiting for our palettes but still enjoyed the experience
Just fabulous!
The menu was limited and the prices were very high for the quality. They do make an excellent Monte Cristo coffee
Simply perfect. Outstanding food and service. We felt like the only guests. Made a special evening unforgettable .
Service was the nicest of all the restaurants we've been in CHS, they explain what's in each plate & give recommendations. The food was delicious, worth every penny and place... Damn! Just try it and see for yourselves
A very good waiter Mark with his suggestion: antelope
This is probably the only restaurant of its kind in Charleston -- a pretty high bar, since Charleston is filled with amazingly great restaurants. Circa 1886 is truly an epicurean delight, with unique and wonderful dishes prepared brilliantly and served by an unbelievably competent staff. This was a 2-hour dinner for 5 that passed in no time at all. This restaurant provides a quiet and intimate atmosphere in which people can enjoy great food. If you can, be sure that you have Charles as your server -- knowledgeable and perfect in terms of timing and attentiveness.
Austin our server was amazing. We had such a wonderful experience from start to finish.
Absolutely fantastic food and service. Very neat place but expensive for those on a budget
Great meal in what use to be a stable. Nice for a romantic dinner. The pecan bread pudding was wonderful! I would recommend locating the restaurant in the daytime as parking is not available in the lot that is located next to the restaurant. It is for the Wentworth Mansion guests.
Calling the restaurant didn't help much and our Goggle map wasn't locating well either. Didn't like parking in a dark lot on the corner of Smith and Debain(suggested by the restaurant) and walking a couple blocks as Charleston has very dark streets. Other than that, it was enjoyable.
Couldn't recommend highly enough. Food was fantastic and service was excellent!
Circa 1886 never disappoints. Very good food, attentive service, great ambiance.
As expected an excellent dinner with a touch of warm, southern hospitality appropriately provided by our waiter Denis. We were well looked after and the cuisine was special in its own right, topping the evening off with one of Circa 1886's special deserts. A restaurant experience to remember
Fabulous!!!!!
30th wedding anniversary
Perfection, as always. Service impeccable, a chef who accomodated to food allergies and wonderful food.
One of the best meals we've ever had. Would go back in a heartbeat. From the start, while we waited for our table, our service was excellent. The hostess was friendly and welcoming. Our bartender made an excellent Old Fashioned and was knowledgeable and helpful with choosing a wine for our dinner. His recommendation was followed and lived up to his high praise. We had the pleasure to be served by Denis, one of the finest waiters anywhere. His calm and thorough explanation of the menu items went a long way to making this one of our finest and most enjoyable dining experiences ever. From the Amuse-bouche to the last sip of tawny port we marveled at the smells and tastes presented to us. Book a table now!
Your restaurant was recommended for a special occasion. It fit our expectations and then some. Everything was perfect. Service was outstanding. We ordered according to her recommendations and wasn’t disappointed!!! Will come again!
The dining experience was perfect in every way. Impeccable service (thank you Mark), lovely atmosphere, food that was sublime and beautifully presented, and just right portion sizes. Will definitely return again and again!
