About Circa 1886
Chef Marc Collins draws inspiration from many cuisines around the world to create a menu that is truly unique to the Charleston restaurant scene. Drawing inspiration from historic Southern dishes and always highlighting what is local and in season, Chef Collins puts a healthful, distinctive spin on classic Lowcountry dishes. This means there is less butter and cream than typically seen on Southern menus. Whole grains are incorporated to dishes and ingredients are used at the peak of flavor. The result is satisfying dishes that retain their bright, bold flavors without the large amounts of fat found in many restaurant dishes. From our Plantation Rice Bread Rolls made in house daily, to the selection of local seafood, to Pastry Chef Lovorn’s incredible desserts, each dinner at Circa 1886 celebrates the region we call home. Let our professional, attentive, experienced and knowledgeable staff guide you through the menu and help select a wine that is a perfect pairing for food and budget.

Circa 1886 Ratings and Reviews
This was our second visit and we came during restaurant week. The menu selections offered a few good options. Those that had the beef entree were not disappointed. The service was excellent and we had an overall great experience. I highly recommend a visit.
A truly remarkable meal, paired with outstanding service. We were unaware that it was Charleston Restaurant Week, but the chef still provided the full menu instead of a limited selection. Every dish was incredible, and the wine pairings (appropriately different for each dish as opposed to a standard selection per course regardless of order) were superbly selected. The caramel apple cake was without a doubt the best cake I have ever eaten. Sarah provided expert and comfortable service and was thoroughly charming. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone coming to Charleston.
Stayed at the Wentworth Mansion for a weekend getaway in Charleston. We went to Circa 1886 our first night in town and absolutely loved it. It was restaurant week and the food was not only amazing, the prix fixe menu with wine pairing was an absolute bargain.
A friend and I gave Circa 1886 a try for restaurant week. We made reservations. The hostess gave us a call prior verifying it with us. The ambiance was oozing; the staff were friendly and attentive. The service was impeccable. The food and wine were very good. This place deserves a repeat performance on a regular basis.
Restaurant week 3 course menu. Very lovely restaurant newly renovated. Creative menu. Great pacing, attentive service and interesting menu choices. A great value for restaurant week. The beets appetizer was terrific, the antelope was tender and delicious. The desserts were also wonderful. Recommend this charming restaurant.
Let’s start with mentioning the incredible service first. Our waitress Chelsey was incredible and knowledgeable. She made our experience at the restaurant all that much better. She will be a big reason we return to this restaurant. The rest of the staff, to include Gracey the hostess, provided excellent service. Moving on to the food, DELICIOUS is the word to describe it best! The dill ice cream (who knew) was very well paired with the lobster tail. We had a set menu due to it being New Years Eve. The menu was very well prepared and combined a lot of different elements to create the perfect meal. Hats off to the Chef! We will be returning and most likely will make this our New Year’s Eve location for every year to come!
The food was absolutely delicious and artistic in its presentation. Service was perfect and attentive. Ambiance was quiet and intimate. This restaurant was rated #2 in the country by TripAdvisor and it was well deserved. It was not an inexpensive restaurant but worth every penny.
Although we were offered a free drink to move to the bar, we were at a table for 6, the audacity to ask us to move to free the table was rude and a true Pizza Hut moment. Two from the table were from San Francisco, two were on a first time meetng with new boy friend. Many in the restaurant were at their tables when we were seated. We must say there are many choices in Charleston. You, of course have lost a long time customer. Really! Who would think of asking 6 people to move to he bar. Just unforgiveable.
One of the best meals we’ve ever had. Had the pork belly, salmon and lamb. All amazing!! Tried two desserts...pumpkin soufflé and pineapple cake. Divine!!! Our waitress Emily was a delight. The small chef bites they brought to our table were delightful and well received. Cannot wait until our next visit when we return to Charleston. Well done Chef!!!
As always, CIrca didn't disappoint. We took my brother who was in town for the holidays, and he has already put it on the list for us to return to when he comes in February. The food was spectacular as was the service. I've never had anything less than an exceptional experience there ... which is why we keep going back. If you plan on going, do everyone a favor and dress like you belong there. Yes, it was cold, but couldn't you take off your knit ski cap while you dined??? Jeans and flannel shirts just make you look like you don't belong there. But you certainly won't be treated any less charmingly by the staff. They manage to overlook all of the fashion faux pas.
My husband and I went to Circa 1886 for christmas eve dinner. We wanted something special and it did not dissapoint. The ambiance was comforting and the food delectable. The pumpkin souflee was a great way to end the meal. My only negative complaint is that our party size went from 2 to 4 and they were unable? unwilling to accommodate the extra persons. While dining it appeared that they could easily have made that happen for us.
This was by far our favorite dinner while in Charleston. Our waiter Austin was incredibly knowledgeable about the area and the food on the menu. We were there for our anniversary. The food recommendations were perfect. My husband had the antelope which was cooked perfectly. For dessert I ordered the pumpkin soufflé. It was like pumpkin flavored air. We were able to bring our wine with us next door to the mansion and walk up to the 4th floor cupola and get an evening view of Charleston. We will definitely visit here again and recommend to everyone.
We had a lovely dinner here. The food was great, especially the chicken fried salmon entree. The beet salad was wonderful. And the pumpkin souffle was perfect. It is a romantic venue with great service. It is in the Carriage House behind the Wentworth Mansion (which is a great place to stay, by the way). We will be back for another dinner!
My husband and I came to Circa for date night. This was our first time here, as we like to try new places. This was a delightful experience from the waiter (Austin) to the table where we were seated. Everything single thing we ordered was very well put together by the Chef. I recommend the Pork Belly as an appetizer. We will definitely be back for seconds !!!
First time here and it could not have been a better experience. The service was excellent and our table for two was in a quiet room away from the larger groups that were present this night in other areas of the restaurant. Quite romantic for our special occasion. While the menu was somewhat limited, it was more than ample, had something for everyone’s taste, and was quite creative. The wine list is extensive. The pumpkin soufflé for desert was outstanding. We’ll be back.
Circa 1886 last Veach up to the Forbes and AAA diamond ratings; the service was spot on and the pace of delivery was perfect, even as my wife and I were quickly cleaning our plates. I had a dish named Southern Fried Salmon; my wife had to stop me from going into the back and hugging whoever was dredging the fish in the fried chicken batter. You must get the pork belly as a starter; I’ve never had better. They actually dissolve like butter in your mouth. A huge wine list and hand-crafted specially cocktails answer any need for a pairing or after dinner drink. Last but not least, they ask to order your dessert with dinner to give the pastry chef time to plate these masterpieces. The Waffle Haus is everything you could want in the south; a Belgian waffle, Bacon & Egg Ice Cream, and Maple Caramel drizzle.
