Chef Marc Collins draws inspiration from many cuisines around the world to create a menu that is truly unique to the Charleston restaurant scene. Drawing inspiration from historic Southern dishes and always highlighting what is local and in season, Chef Collins puts a healthful, distinctive spin on classic Lowcountry dishes. This means there is less butter and cream than typically seen on Southern menus. Whole grains are incorporated to dishes and ingredients are used at the peak of flavor. The result is satisfying dishes that retain their bright, bold flavors without the large amounts of fat found in many restaurant dishes. From our Plantation Rice Bread Rolls made in house daily, to the selection of local seafood, to Pastry Chef Lovorn’s incredible desserts, each dinner at Circa 1886 celebrates the region we call home. One of the best meals we've ever had. Would go back in a heartbeat. From the start, while we waited for our table, our service was excellent. The hostess was friendly and welcoming. Our bartender made an excellent Old Fashioned and was knowledgeable and helpful with choosing a wine for our dinner. His recommendation was followed and lived up to his high praise. We had the pleasure to be served by Denis, one of the finest waiters anywhere. His calm and thorough explanation of the menu items went a long way to making this one of our finest and most enjoyable dining experiences ever. From the Amuse-bouche to the last sip of tawny port we marveled at the smells and tastes presented to us. Book a table now!

We LOVE Circa! After enjoying the chef’s tasting menu nine months ago for my birthday, we wanted to come and enjoy a date night out. We knew this was exactly the place to come and enjoy every moment of it from the menu a la carte and ambiance - It did not disappoint. Katelyn was fabulous and made us feel special from start to finish. Thank you Brian for your recommendations and taking care of us as well. As Charleston natives, this is our top recommendation above all else!

Beautiful setting (inside & out). Outstanding service. Excellent food and presentation. We went to several very nice restaurants during our trip to Charleston, but Circa 1886 was our favorite. We highly recommend it.

Circa 1886 was our favorite choice of restaurants we dined at in Charleston. The staff was attentive, kind and made the scrumptious meal that much more enjoyable. The ambiance was lovely and inviting.
I would highly recommend anyone visiting Charleston to dine here.
The tuna was superb; the tile fish was subtlety prepared to my enjoyment; the peach soufflé was a delight to the pallet .

Our meals were amazing! The service was excellent, the waitperson was very knowledgeable and helpful, and appropriately attentive (but not overly attentive). It is well worth the cost. It was the perfect spot for our anniversary dinner.

This was truly an amazing dining experience. Our waitress was genuinely kind and had excellent suggestions about the menu, and the other staff members were just as friendly. We were guests of the Fulton Inn and were offered a discount on a three course meal, and we were additionally treated to a few of the chefs creations of snacks before the meal (on the house). The food pairings are clever, curious and compelling. I didn’t know that I would enjoy antelope but it was so tender for a game meat that I ate every bite. Food portions were fair and beautifully displayed. Cocktails weren’t as strong as they could have been but were very enjoyable and also reflected the imagination of fun combinations. The ambiance was perfect after the long day of walking, and was charming with candlelight and classical music in the background. We enjoyed our evening very much. Caitlyn was a delight!!

Pleasantly surprised with the establishment. Beautiful focal point entry. Comfortable booths. The food was absolutely superb. One of the best. Service was very attentive and many different individuals are involved to be sure your dinner is done right. I regularly visit Halls and the Peninsula Grill when I am in town but I found my new favorite. I had the goat cheese appetizer which was not on the menu, and the scallops. The staff brought over a few items from the chef while we awaited the food and the mixture of flavors was truly an experience. By the look of the menu I was unsure of the flavor these dishes would have but I must say they absolutely have it down. For dessert I ordered the bread pudding. This could very well be one of the best desserts I have ever had the pleasure of enjoying. If you decide to go here, be sure someone from your party orders this dish. Charleston always come through for me and Circa is now at the top of my list. I look forward to my next visit.

Great dinner and fantastic food. Menu was exceptional. Chef even had a vegan dish on the menu, which while I am not strictly vegan any longer, is always appreciated. I chose it and it was simply fantastic. Not just a plate of veggies. Super food and great service.

Had a wonderful date night with my husband here. Sat in the historic carriage house. Excellent service from everyone at the restaurant. Chef spoiled the customers with surprise treats throughout the night. Ended the evening with their take on bread pudding which was so unique and delicious! Clientele seems to be a little on the older side, but we had fun none the less!

I am a snowbird (4 months here for the past 22 years) and I celebrated my 78th birthday with my daughter and her husband who came down from Boston to be with me. I cannot remember how many birthdays and special occasions i have had dinner there. Always look forward to the antelope which i find nowhere else!!!!! Hope it is always on the menu!

We had a fabulous experience at Circa 1886! The food, service, and ambiance were all outstanding. Our server, Caitlyn, was excellent. If you haven’t tried this restaurant before, you need to! This was our third year returning to Circa for our anniversary. It was really nice because they remembered us. We had the same server as the previous two years (Charles - excellent service), and they even printed a special menu for us that said "Happy Anniversary". As always, the food was excellent, creative, fresh, and visually impressive. I had a white fish entree (Loupe de Mer), and my wife had the duck. Impressively, the sommelier was able to recommend a bottle that went well with both plates. Also as usual, the desert soufflé (this year an apple crisp soufflé) was amazing. Thank you Circa for making our anniversary a wonderful experience yet again!

Impeccable service - really above and beyond. Our server offered thoughtful recommendations from the menu, and pleasantly surprised us throughout the meal. He was highly attentive without ever being overbearing. The art of course timing has been truly mastered here. Flawless. The food was creatively presented with interesting flavor pairings, and just absolutely delicious. We were entirely delighted with each dish brought to our table. Our drinks were always full and the bartender was able to accommodate special requests. The ambiance was pleasantly quiet and sophisticated, with no pompous air about it. We could not have enjoyed our first experience at Circa 1886 more.

This was our 2nd annual visit to celebrate our anniversary. This time we brought friends. Probably the best 3 hours we have EVER spent in a dining establishment. Our server Charles was wonderful - attentive, congenial, knowledgeable, helpful - a real gem. He gave great suggestions and knew everything about anything coming out of the kitchen. You could tell he enjoyed working there. The food - Oh. My. All four of us had different dishes and all of us were beyond happy with our meals. The menu is diverse, and executed with skill. We got to meet Chef Mark - the man is a craftsman in the truest sense of the word. The smallest detail of every dish is done with attention and intent. We look forward to our next anniversary celebration there with great anticipation. Thank You so Very Much to the staff @ Circa 1886.

I came for the food and it was rather blah. The waiters made a lot of comments about how delicious everything was, how I ordered their favorite dish, etc which was untasteful since everything was boring and not properly seasoned. The amuse was the only thing that we remembered about the whole meal. (and it was 2 days ago)

We came here for our 20th first date anniversary. It was the best place I've eaten in a while. It started with the incredible garlic bread rolls, continued on with the fried buttermilk artichoke, pork cheek, piedmontese beef, and finished with the sweet tea ice cream. From start to finish this meal was beyond words and can only be experienced.

I booked this for my daughters birthday and because of the recommends. i expected a gourmet experience based on the reviews and prices. I was to be disappointed as whoever sets the menu is not concerned with quality of food. The only beef dish was a shoulder cut. You expect more than tough beef for a $40 dollar dish. The fish was just that fishy. Obviously the selections were cheap and not up to the price charged. Will not return. When I pay 200 bucks for a meal for three I expect it to be special not at all what I got.

Excellent service! Knowledgeable and pleasant staff. That really was the best part of the evening.
We had tasting menu and wine pairings. Pairings were very good and varied. Main course was very nice. Other courses were good, but not toe-curling. Dessert was a bit of a disappointment.
