The food wos terrific!!! Also our waitor called Adam was brilliant!
Outstanding! Great menu, cool venu, and excellent service. Nice eating with "locals" in an otherwise tourist-filled city!
From the beginning to end this was a first class experience. The hostess was very kind and greeted us with a smile. The service was impeccable. Austin was our waiter who provided us with outstanding service and was very knowledgeable. We had the chefs tasting menu which was fantastic and very filling . Overall: Amazing.
I have always considered Circa 1886 the best restaurant in Charleston, but on this last visit, I did not find any of my courses exceptional. The meat course was a portion of a filet, with basic asparagus and a potato croquette. Not very much imagination was put into this dish. The Grouper was okay, nothing special. The poached apple salad, again not very imaginative. There seemed to lack developed flavors in any of the dishes this time. The dessert soufflé was not as good as desserts in the past there. The best thing I ate that night was the African Peanut Soup. The service, as usual was 5 star. Ambience exceptional.
This restaurant is fabulous. The food is interesting and delicious. Ambiance is excellent. Will definitely go again if back in Charleston. There was NOTHING negative. All 5 star positives
Food and service were superb! Acknowledged my wife’s birthday in a classy manner.
We spent our anniversary here. We came here a few years ago we we first began dating, and to return after 3 years brought us back to that moment. The staff went out of their way to make tonight special for us, and the chef’s tasting is by far our favorite in Charleston! A must for a Charleston visit!
The food and wine were amazing! The service was incredible! Can’t wait to return! One of our favorite restaurants!
Amazing as always. Loved the new menu! The service and attention to detail is like nothing else in Charleston
Circa 1866 was one of the best dining experiences of my life. Simply superb. The food was stellar, and the staff was just as good. The chef and manager should be very proud.
Excellent experience, the staff was very courteous and understanding as we had 3 small children dining with us. We appreciated the time they took to help with their meal orders.
Circa 1886 had a beautiful atmosphere and our service was impeccable. I loved how the menu gave you an insight to the history of the area. And the kitchen even sent out "gifts" before our dinner. We'll be back!!
We went on the 4th of July. Brought our entire family, several younger children, 10 of us in total. The staff allowed us to eat in their private dining room. It was an incredible experience for us all.
The food was incredible, service impeccable and they made us feel at home.
All I can say is WOW!! Unforgettable night at Circa 1886. The food was absolutely amazing. Uniquely unforgettable food and experience! The atmosphere was cozy and romantic!! Dennis provided the best service ever! He made it an unforgettable night... thank you!
The fried green tomato salad was tangy, creamy, and wonderful. The preserved rabbit stew was savory and had such perfect herbacious flavors. Our favorite was the Piedmontese beef--so flavorful and perfectly cooked. The venison was good but we would both order the beef next time. We had the squash cake for dessert and loved the fresh berries. Excellent service and perfectly timed courses.
The chef's menu with wine pairings is always a brilliant choice! We love Circa so much!
By far the best restaurant I’ve been to. We had an amazing time and are very impressed by the food and the great service. We will definitely come back the next time we are in Charleston. I want to thank everyone there for making my fiancé’s birthday perfect!
The food was absolutely delicious. Our wait staff was impeccable and extremely knowledgeable. We sat outside so we could take our dog and the ambiance was wonderful. We tried the latest menu highlighting the foods from various areas brought to Charleston. The portions were perfect so there was room to have the fabulous dessert soufflé. Highly recommend dining at Circa 1886. We will absolutely return.
Circa 1886 is classed as a fine dining restaurant and certainly all of the clientele were very nicely dressed. However our food was very mixed - for starters the 3 of us had fried green tomato, foie gras and cider apple salad - all ok except the salad which was unremarkable. Then we ordered fish, beef and a crab dish. The beef was disappointing - overcooked, fish was fine but the crab came in a scolding hot pot and sauce which was too hot to eat and also destroyed the flavour of the contents - this was pointed out to the server who could only comment - 'you should have said it was too hot' - no apology :-(.
Then 2 of us had the souffle which was pronounced the dish of the evening.
When we asked for the check the maitre'd apologised for the crab course and deducted it from the total. The restaurant seemed 'the' place to go in Charleston but we were disappointed and later ate in better restaurants. We would give them another chance bu it wouldn't be our first choice.
Wonderful dining experience. Food and service was outstanding. A bit pricey, but worth every bit. Would recommend and will definitely repeat in the future.
Excellent choice for our 40th anniversary. Beautiful restaurant with a great staff and outstanding food.
We enjoyed our best restaurant experience at Circa 1886 during our 4 day visit. We had heard great things about 1886 and were not disappointed. The food was exceptional, i.e. vegetable soup, shrimp and rice grits, Piedmontese beef, souffle, etc. and the drinks were just right (try the Nip Tuck cocktail). Adam, our waiter was very knowledgeable of all the menu items (we asked a few questions), engaging, courteous and friendly. The ambiance was relaxing, low keyed and cozy, just right after a busy and adventuresome day in Charleston. As such, and based on our experience, Circa 1886 received superb
scores across the board. This restaurant is a "must do" when you visit Charleston, it has everything working for it and knows how to provide all with an elagant touch and flair.
We had our anniversary dinner at Circa and it did not disappoint. The restaurant is beautiful. The service was outstanding and the food was amazing. The historical tour themed menu was creative and we enjoyed the starters, entrees and desserts!
This is our favorite restaurant in Charleston!
I would recommend, but I was disappointed to find hair in my food. The server was a great sport, and was very apologetic. But, for a restaurant of that caliber, finding hair in food should not be happening. That being said, I was a good sport and just ate the rest of my dish; with the exception of the piece of food that had hair. The food was amazing and I did have a good time.
Nice place, just expensive. It’s not a bad thing but it’d be hard to go to regularly given how much it costs. Food was good, service was fine, ambience was fine. With so many options in Charleston though I’m sure there are other expensive places to try.
I asked many people where I should take my wife for our anniversary dinner while visiting Charleston and not many people mentioned this place. I am SO thankful that I took my own advice and went to Circa 1886. This is exactly the type of place you think of when thinking about the type of high-end cuisine Charleston has become known for. It the ambiance was amazing, being set in an old carriage house, and the phone, service, and overall vibe was PERFECT for our anniversary dinner. If you're looking for a place to share a special night out, look no further than Circa 1886. Absolutely incredible.
My favorite restaurant in Charleston. It is pricey, but not more so than a number of the other top places. The souffle alone is worth the dinner.
We celebrated our 32 wedding anniversary here and everything was perfect. Quite possibly the best meal we have ever had!
The service was outstanding and the food was excellent. Atmosphere was a little loud but we still thoroughly enjoyed ourselves.
Excellent food and service! We were seated early and the chef came out and spoke with us
Everything was wonderful! Would certainly recommend this place!
The food was amazing, expensive but worth the experience. The food choices were unique, but the dessert was worth the trip itself! We were on vacation and this is one of the restaurants we will look forward to visiting next year!
Lovely meal celebrating our anniversary. Food and service were wonderful as always.
a thoroughly enjoyable experience from start to finish. we were met by a friendly hostess, and taken care of from soup to nuts by our waiter. he was deeply knowledgeable and enthusiastic about the chef's creations without being overbearing or pretentious (a rare skill). the ambiance is wonderful. c. 1886 is fast becoming my favorite haunt in charleston, precisely because it cleaves to the many values that so many haute cuisine tables are, sadly, moving away from. thank you. i will be back.
Service and food excellent! The Best in Charleston!
The chef definitely has a mission and the staff understands it and explains the food beautifully. Almost as if they are culinary training. A true dining experience. Prices ate not cheap but the care given to the preparation is considerable. The pimento cheese is NOT a sandwich. It is warm, wrapped in a paper thin sheet, the special ham cured in SC, topped with caviar. Remarkable. I can see how past guests were disappointed if they thought they were getting a grilled cheese.
Attention to detail in description, presentation and taste make this a top notch restaurant. Decor is not fancy but nice.
Excellent service and every dish from appetizer to dessert enjoyed by all 4 members of our party.
Food at Circa 1886 was very good, but there are other restaurants in the area where you can get a better value. Inside of the restaurant was louder than I expected.
A lovely room in the Wentworth Mansion. Very good service, helpful with questions we had about the menu. Much of the menu was unique items that represented different countries.
If you are strictly a meat and potatoes type, this restaurant wouldn’t be up your alley.
