Chef Marc Collins draws inspiration from many cuisines around the world to create a menu that is truly unique to the Charleston restaurant scene. Drawing inspiration from historic Southern dishes and always highlighting what is local and in season, Chef Collins puts a healthful, distinctive spin on classic Lowcountry dishes. This means there is less butter and cream than typically seen on Southern menus. Whole grains are incorporated to dishes and ingredients are used at the peak of flavor. The result is satisfying dishes that retain their bright, bold flavors without the large amounts of fat found in many restaurant dishes. From our Plantation Rice Bread Rolls made in house daily, to the selection of local seafood, to Pastry Chef Lovorn’s incredible desserts, each dinner at Circa 1886 celebrates the region we call home. Absolutely the best food and service I've had in over 20 years of coming to Charleston. Reasonably priced for the quality. A must "go" if your are in town or looking to celebrate a special occasion.

Came here for my wife's birthday. We did the 5 course tasting menu which was great and always fun. I will probably just do the regular menu on my next trip and the portions can be small, but filling.

This was our first visit to Charleston and I read several reviews that this was a must place to try. My husband and I were celebrating our 12yr anniversary and this place did not disappoint! The food was truly amazing and the service was on point! Our server Austin made it a memorable experience for us!

Stayed at the hotel that hosts the restaurant. Was an easy walk from the room to the quiet elegance of the Circa 1886. Wonderful atmosphere with tables both inside and out. We were met by a most polite hostess and immediately taken to our table. This was our anniversary and the atmosphere inside was exactly what we had hoped. It was mostly quiet with some classical music playing in the background, this allowed us the opportunity to talk to one another without having to raise our voices.
Our server arrived and she immediately started a conversation that began to build a relationship which made her a partner in the intimate moments throughout dinner. She quickly brought us our drinks and began to pace her visits to our table at just the right intervals, being careful to never interrupt our conversation.
We ordered an appetizer of the fried artichoke hearts (very delicious) and while we waited we were treated by the Chef with two experimental foods. The first was a simple red grape surrounded by a spoonful of sauce based on peanut butter. It was tasty but did not have a real substantial flavor. The second was a small glass of cold cantaloupe soup that has great possibilities as a future appetizer. It was delicious.
My wife and I ordered the antelope and duck respectively both were excellent with the duck being judged as the best of the two. The antelope was flavorful and cooked rare to medium rare. The fillet was just a bit tough but antelope is a game animal and that is to be expected. The duck was perfect and it was accompanied by peach grits which made this dish unusual and a bit exotic. We both loved it.
Compliments to our server who was right there when you needed her but was never in the way. I have to say it was one of the best dinning experiences we have had in years. Highly recommend.

Circa 1886 has been in my Charleston Top 5 list for about ten years now. It never disappoints and we head there for dinner every time we are close to Charleston. My vocabulary is not capable of describing how awesome of a place this is. Austin took care of us for the night and he was equally amazing. The menu will be changing in August so if you want some of the best Antelope you've ever had, get there soon.

Absolutely amazing food from the amuse bouche to dessert. It is in the more expensive end but incredibly worth every penny.

My husband got the antelope which is the chefs specialty. It comes rare to medium rare and was just delicious.

From the Mississippi violet martini to the s’mores chocolate soufflé with marshmallow ice cream and crunchy graham cracker crumbs the food was truly a culinary heaven .

Wonderful setting in an old stable with the mansion next door. The service was stellar precise, informative and friendly. The food especially the smore souffle desert was out of this world. Excellent wine selection. Great for a special occasion as it can get a bit pricey.

The overall experience was very good. The server was very hospitable and did a great job remembering my brother had an allergy and that it was my parents anniversary. However, I have a few notes on the food: The first combination of cheddar, prosciutto, and almond was delightful. The she crab soup was not the best, too many spices. The artichoke heart was pretty good but did not live up to the hype. The scallops were very nice but the vegetables could have been better. The antelope and the beef were divine but again, the vegetables. The s’mores soufflé was lovely. We really enjoyed the night but these are a few notes to consider.
