As Charleston residents, we have been coming to Circa 1886 for several years. I have always found the food and the service to be exceptional. Last Wednesday evening, it was not. We tried the tasting menu again and found the courses to be distinctly mediocre. The scallops were so salty as to be inedible. If the dish had been an entree, I would have sent it back. I told the waitress that it was too salty. The balance of the meal was not up to this restaurant's high standards, particularly in this price range. Circa 1886 has been one of my top restaurants in Charleston, but no longer. It is sad.

The service was excellent and ambience lovely. The meal however was sub par except for the dessert. Being in the food industry myself I would suggest that the chef taste the food to ensure that seasoning is correct. More salt was necessary.

I must say, this restaurant is still my favorite in all Charleston ! It never disappoints; excellent food, service and atmosphere. You can actually carry on a conversation without having to raise your voice. It has been an wonderful dining experience every time.

This Chef is offering up some very interesting, delightful, extremely well-prepared offerings. My only suggestion would be to add one or two daily or weekly specials to enhance the seasonal menu. As usual, the service is hard to beat.

Add this restaurant to your list of "Must go there next time we're in Charleston"!

Service was outstanding and so was the food. Very nice atmosphere. Food presentation is outstanding also. We could not have had better service or food! First time dining here and we will be back.

The choices were unique and beautifully plated. Flavors were perfectly paired!! Wine list was suitable. Make sure to order an appetizer if you go hungry. Platings are small.

Food and service were excellent they were easily able to make a few changes for my wife to accomodate her preferences. Great experience and a great place to meet up with a small group of friends.

Tanya our server was just outstanding and very attentive to our every need. The four of us had a wonderful evening. We enjoyed the wine and after dinner drinks. Well done by all!

Food was very good. Room was not too large and quiet enough to converse easily. Unusual combination of ingredients for entrees. Bread and desserts well above average. Kudos to the pastry chef!

Our evening at Circa 1886 was exceptional in many ways. The people are friendly and helpful and our server was able to describe dishes to the last detail. The space is beautiful and thankfully, old Charleston. Dinner was delicious from start to finish. You could actually hear each other using your regular tone of voice. Perfect!

We were excited to try this restaurant because of the excellent reviews. We enjoyed our dinner. Most, not all, of the meal was very good. With so many awesome restaurants in Charleston, this one did not make the cut in terms of going back.

Unlike some of Charleston's other best restaurants, Circa 1886 does not have a crowded dining room. The food and service are outstanding, but what I like best is that I can enjoy the person I'm with.

This was a very special place to dine at. The food was amazing as was the dining/service staff. We really enjoyed our meal. Having eaten at several Michelin starred restaurants, this establishments meets those level of cuisine, service, and ambience.

Anne the bartender and Mark the server were just great! The food was incredible. One of the best dinners I’ve had in Charleston. Will definitely be back!

This high-end restaurant is excellent for special occasions. The service we received at Circa 1886 was absolutely outstanding. Our server was extremely attentive and very friendly. The cocktails were delicious and well balanced.

That being said, we found the $90pp tasting menu lacking. 5 courses should have been filling, but we left hungry. The portions were very small and we regretted not ordering from the regular menu.

Despite good recommendations, my husband and I were disappointed with 1886. A bit stuffy but lovely decor. Our waiter Dennis was superb. He even found out the color of the walls for me. However, I had trout which was tasteless and lobster custard even more tasteless. My husband had the bass which was fairly good. With so many fabulous places to eat in Charleston, in our opinion, this should not be near the top of the list.

Very nice atmosphere, exquisitely prepared food, very attentive staff. I recommend the antelope, which was an unusual offering but prepared to perfection! Everything about the place exudes quality and class. It's pricey, but overall a great experience!

Good and interesting food (I had antelope from Idaho that was perfectly cooked) served in a tastefully decorated former coach house. My only criticism is that desert, which were asked to order at the start was served immediately after our entree plates had been removed.

You come to Circa for the ambiance and a special occasion. We had the rainbow trout and bass. Surprisingly, neither tasted exceptionally fresh; the bass, in fact, had a bit of a fishy odor that betrayed its age. Service was polite and prompt, but unexceptional at this price point. In my opinion, there are other options in Charleston that deliver food and service in this category with a better price to value proposition. Recommended, but not without some reservations.

We have lived in Charleston for 20 years and had heard wonderful things about Circa 1886 from others, but had never dined there until this past weekend. We could not have been more impressed. The waitstaff and the entire restaurant staff were true professionals in every sense of the word. Our waiter, Austin, was very attentive and extremely knowledgeable. We were the last day of Charleston Restaurant week and sampled that menu. Every dish was top-notch. Probably our favorite 3 offerings were the CHARLESTON HOT QUAIL, PIEDMONTESE BEEF and the APPLE WALNUT CAKE . We toured the Inn after dinner and plan on spending the night and coming back for dinner very soon. Circa 1886 is a true gem of an establishment!

We enjoyed all of our food. Kobe beef appetizer was tangy, salty, soft and crunchy. The pork tenderloin was perfectly cooked and the red curry hollandaise sauce is delicious. The desserts are perfect too. We tried them all. The chocolate souffle is like whoa. The apple walnut cake is deliciously sweet and crunchy and a wonderful light dessert. And the sweet potato creme brulee will make you feel like Thanksgiving all over again. Plus the service is impeccable and the restaurant is gorgeous and quaint.

Our waiter was great, he was able to give good descriptions of each dish along with telling us what previous guests had enjoyed or what was most popular on the current menu. It’s quiet, which is nice because you don’t have to talk loud to hear one another. I would not suggest bringing your kids because there’s no menu options for them and it’s not really kid friendly.

My first dinner through Charleston restaurant week and it was a great experience! The menu was so diverse. I don't recommend the Kobe beef appetizer but the others were good. The antelope loin and the souffle dessert we're amazing! If you're not a wine drinker I'd not recommend the wine pairing. I personally don't like dessert wine but the other 2 were good. Our server Emily was very informative and did such a stellar job taking care of us! Will definitely be here again.
