We enjoyed a wonderful dinner celebrating our anniversary. The food was delicious and the service superb.
Awesome from first course to last!! In a lengthy list of standout dishes, the flavor profile of every piece of the trout meal was next level when paired together. But especially the homemade mocha ice cream in the soufflé was some of the best ice cream I have ever had. I seriously could've had a pint of that right then and there!
This was our fifth time to dine here, and it never disappoints. The ambiance is perfect, the service is friendly, knowledgeable and professional, the food is divine. It has become our favorite restaurant in a city full of great ones.
What a great overall dining experience. Beautiful location (wish we had seen the grounds during daylight), awesome service (attentive, friendly, not stuffy), great food (trout and apple walnut cake were our favs), and they even went as far as to wish us Happy Anniversary three ways during the evening. We were tempted to go back the next day! Thanks for everything.
Excellent food and outstanding service. I was pleased with the efforts they made to keep a vegetarian happy.
I have eaten at Circa 1886 numerous times. The service is always extraordinary in every respect. I was somewhat disappointed in the planked salmon. This was my first time to order salmon at the restaurant and the serving, while attractive, was not up to the appropriate temperature not was the serving sufficient. Frankly, it was closer to an appetizer than the primary course. That said, my guests ordered scallops (2) and a bass course and were well pleased.
Our server was attentive, knowledgeable and courteous.
In the future, I will choose another entry.
We were staying at Wentworth Mansion on a mother daughter trip and experienced the luxury of breakfast each morning and wanted to see if dinner lived up to the same high standard. We were not disappointed! Our wait person, Kaitlyn, was a delight and gave us excellent guidance as well as service. The atmosphere is lovely in what was the carriage house for the mansion. Soft jazz music playing at a level that allowed for easy conversation. The food is elegant, creative and delectable. I highly recommend the trout entree as well as the antelope which appears to be a signature dish. Thank you to everyone working at this magnificent property for making our trip so memorable!
Fabulous dinner here. Loved the ambiance, great service, and the tasting menu was amazing. Absolutely worth it. I hope we get to go again!
It was lovely and delicious in every aspect. Service was impeccable, kind, and non-instrusive. Dinner was beautifully prepared and beautifully presented.
This is a perfect spot for special occasions or just a nice evening meal. Great little bar for those before dinner drinks.
My husband and I enjoyed Circa 1886. We are in Charleston for our honeymoon! They made us feel so special and the food was terrific.
We had an amazing dinner. Fabulous food, wine and service.
A truly gifted chef and knowledgeable staff.
And reasonably priced for such an exceptional experience
Service was real deal fine dining, so rare these days. Food kept up with the service experience.
A fine dining establishment, the food is quite good if a tad pretentious. Very nice ambiance--but ask for a booth. Is it worth the high prices? You decide.
Service (Austin was our server) was fantastic! Great at guiding us through the menu and the experience.
Overall delicious dinner- loved the foie gras appetizer and the trout and the scallop dinners, as well as sweet potato donuts. Though the Kobi beef and hearts of palm appetizer had a good flavor, there is so little beef that it is actually rediculous. The chocolate souffle appetizer was not very chocolatey at all. Wine list had good, reasonable options.
Beautiful setting with impeccable service. We felt some of the dishes in the menu could have been a bit more descriptive, but the complimentary amuse bouche was incredible, as was the majority of our 5-course dinner. Beautifully presented, as well.
Food and service were excellent. Dennis, our server, was knowledgeable of the menu and wine pairings and offered the sommelier for further details which was not needed. Pre dinner tastings were provided before appetizers. Antelope and Bordellaise beef entrees were perfect as was the souffle with Bailey's Cream dessert. Excellent dinner and experience.
Music was NOT conducive for the ambience... unsettling jazz ( did not create a relaxing atmosphere)waiter was pushing alcohol after we told him numerous times that my husband was not able to consume alcohol. Food was creative, but for our preference.. personally, too “tortured”. It seemed to be of most importance to be told “how many “Ingredients” were is each dish.
A beautiful restaurant with a fabulous local and seasonal menu. Service is personal and warm. Highly recommend!
Excellent food! The antelope was spectacular. Service was a high point too. Highly recommend Circa 1886
Excellent on every level. Ambiance, wait staff, food. One of the best in Charleston. Put Circa 1886 on your restaurant list. Perfect!!
One of the most outstanding restaurants we ever went to!! Every morsel was perfection.
Absolutely wonderful! We thoroughly enjoyed our dinner here. The portion sizes were just right so that we could enjoy 3 courses without feeling stuffed. I truly had the best pork tenderloin I have even eaten, hands down. The flavors were sublime and cleverly blended. The only reason I gave 4 stars for ambiance instead of 5 was due to the table next to us with the family with 2 young children who were wild and noisy (definitely not a place for young children). The wait staff is second to none, super attentive and very helpful in making selections. They really know their offerings. I will go back to this restaurant in the future.
We were treated really special as we celebrated our 24th wedding Anniversary at Circa 1886. The server and wait staff were exceptional, friendly, personable and made us feel we were the only ones in the restaurant and it was our special evening. The hostess was a sweet, poised and friendly young lady.
Our hats off the to chef for the incredible meal that we were served, from the appetizer to dessert, the meal was wonderful.
The chef’s tastings began the meal-a gift of a demitasse cup of delectable spaghetti squash soup with curry preceded by a note of steak tartare with leek- so delightful! Appetizers delicious- entree scallops tender and sweet, entree trout creative with duck sausage topping- just a delightful meal followed by a few creative desserts. Always a guaranteed creative gourmet experience! My favorite in Charleston- at anniversary 25 and 42! ( and in between!)
Excellent, friendly staff -- from the hostess, to the wait staff, to the manager. Excellent food, too, of course.
Upscale, Quiet, Delicious food, Very classy, Not for loud kids or parties
Wonderful restaurant; excellent food and service. Made my husband's 60th birthday very special.
We celebrated my husband’s “60th” birthday with a trip to Charleston, and dinner at Circa 1886. It would have been a wonderful evening except the timing was off with courses and beverages. Odd for a restaurant of this quality. We ordered wine and an appetizer to start the meal. Delivery of the wine was so slow we had finished the appetizer before it arrived. The same thing happened with our dessert course. We ordered coffee to go with our dessert. The coffee arrived AFTER we had finished our dessert. Disappointing.
Food was delicious!
We enjoyed the tasting menu with paired wines. Each course was creative and beautifully presented. It’s a lovely restaurant.
New fall menu was wonderful. Since our visit was a special occasion, we ordered the tasting menu with wine pairing. Their selection of wines added so much to the enjoyment of the food. Chef and staff accommodating and real pros.
Beautiful dining room and easy parking. Fine dining comparable or better to meals in Europe and larger US cities.
Celebrated my wife's birthday. Everything was perfect! Three course special available if you are lodging with Fulton Lane Inn (which was also fabulous)
Beautiful meal and beautiful place. Some servers were very friendly with the guests and some were professional but a bit “cool”. Just an observation . Ambiance was perfect.
Both the food and the service were top of the line.
We went to celebrate my birthday and I really enjoyed our dinner. I had the duck and would highly recommend it.
We celebrated two birthdays there and they did an outstanding job of making it so special .
Wonderful service and delicious food.
A special place !
