The Four Seasons St Louis is partnering with James Beard Award winning Chef Gerard Craft to bring you Cinder House. The menu centers around the kitchens 14 ft wood-burning hearth. Located on the iconic 8th floor of Four Seasons Hotel St. Louis, Cinder House showcases sweeping views of the Gateway Arch and downtown skyline.

“Some foods taste so much more complex when cooked on a wood fire,” Craft says. “Grilling is a universal technique so the menu reflects many different cultures but the food will be heavily influenced by the grilling mecca of South America.”

Craft’s focus on simple foods with bold flavors is highlighted throughout the menu and includes several steak selections and rotating grilled items. From grilled pickles to grilled lamb ribs in soy, lime and garlic with a mango-honey glaze, dishes feature enticing techniques and flavors.

Food is so blah, mediocre service. I have given Cinder House so many chances but this evening’s dinner led me to a very firm conclusion that, except for the onion dip appetizer with fries, this place has terrible food. We had the pork chop (bland, too smoky), fish ceviche (bland, lacks acidity; charged $32 (for an appetizer!!!) I’m glad I checked the bill because it was $22 on the menu; waitress apologized claiming the price was for lobster ceviche and they have not changed the price in their computer), and a vegetarian pasta dish tallarines verde (bland again; pesto sauce and the pasta were too heavy). To add to the blah food, they were understaffed and our server, Alisha, is too businesslike, unengaged, and has a bit of an attitude - her interactions with us were so forced and I felt she did not really enjoy working at the place. I do not think she is familiar with the menu items, and was winging her descriptions. She also served me my glass of Chardonnay after I was halfway through the ceviche. And lemon slices, for our iced teas, never arrived. Aside from the overcharged ceviche, my husband clearly asked for a substitution of fries for the chips that came with the onion dip - we assumed it would be free of charge since an order of fries is cheaper than the dip with chips. But no - they charged us for the fries separately. Nate, the bartender was a saving grace - as always, he made outstanding cocktails and was very personable. Go to Cinder House for the swanky ambience and drinks, not for the other things.

The evening at Cinder House was perfect from beginning to end. Truly excellent. Hors d'oeuvres to wine pairs to entree to a beautiful light dessert... yes dessert. Perfect service. Honestly could not have been better in any way.

Everything we had was very delicious. Special for the night were cheese balls, but more light and fluffy than expected. The scallops awesome and the Tallerine pesto with wild mushrooms, wow! Espresso martini’s to finish off, perfect.

Spectacular but low key. Sophisticated but approachable. Worldly but cozy. Expensive but warranted. Delicious, unusual cuisine and drinks, but classics are available. Kind and efficient service. We dined here to celebrate a milestone birthday. We were seated at a perfect table outside overlooking the Arch and reflecting pool on the hotel's rooftop. Our server was personable and happy to offer suggestions for drinks and starters. The lamb ribs were very good. The roasted hen of the woods mushrooms were exceptional. We had the duck duo and the Mocequa (seafood stew) as entrees. Both very well prepared and each had perfect seasoning. For a birthday dessert, the sent out their Liamones Rellenos, which is a coconut mousse disguised as a fresh lime. Beautiful presentation and delicious. Cinder House is certainly a special occasion restaurant to be enjoyed by anyone looking for a great meal with a great view.

Underwhelmed. Great servers/service. Despite being a 'hyped' place, it was perhaps half capacity or less at 7PM on a Saturday night. Scallops were good but not amazing. Risotto was grainy. Polenta side dish was the winner. Good cocktails. Pre-read some info re: parking so I gave our ticket to the waiter, thinking it was covered. $10 parking charge became part of our bill. Not worth a drive downtown...sad to say.

I had the mahi fish sandwich and it was superb. Delicious bun and Cole slaw and good portion size of the filet. The patio was so peaceful with the reflection pool and view of the Arch. The hostess and servers were very welcoming and accommodating. Will return again!

I didn’t like the fact the we had to pay an additional $7 per person fee to bring in a birthday cake and that we weren’t allowed to bring In birthday balloons. The menu didn’t have a great selection but overall the service was great and the ambiance was amazing

The ambience is amazing and the service was great. However, if I am paying over $200 for a meal, I want to feel like the food is the best part. Don’t get me wrong, the food was good, but it wasn’t as good as I was expecting. If I’m paying that kind of money, I want the food to be the most memorable part.

The food was good but our server was very interested in my boyfriend and taking care of him and not me, she addressed him majority of the time, put her hand on his shoulder and called him sweetheart even though I was the one paying the bill. Not satisfied with her.

Excellent dining. The Cheese Bread, not on the menu was the best I have ever had in the States. Rivals the best from Rio and São Paulo. Wood grilled Pork Chop and the Butternut Risotto were marvelous. The Lime dessert, also not on the menu was incredible and unique. Great service, always on it.

The restaurant ambiance was very pleasant and food reasonable for brunch. The buffet that came with brunch was pretty small (charcuterie / cheese / pastries / oats / yogurt) but reasonable quality. Having one cheese seemed a little sparse, and as it was quiet, a fly congregated around the food which was off putting. Main course which you ordered off the menu was good. The service was very poor. Waters and coffee went empty. Condiments not brought out with food as requested and couldn’t get them for five minutes as hard to flag somebody down. No spoons brought out for yogurt. I normally wouldn’t be too bothered about these things but when you’re paying close to $40 for eggs Benedict and a pastry you expect no real issues with service. They weren’t understaffed just seemed chaotic in who was doing what on service.

We had our Anniversary dinner at Cinder House and the appetizers looked so interesting we decided to make a meal of them. Our waiter added the off-menu Cinder House homemade cheese buns as an anniversary gift. The lamb ribs were perfectly seasoned and tender, mussels were in a wonderful Peruvian sauce and the little gem salad was fresh and delightful. The hen of the woods mushrooms were unusual but very tasty. Service was attentive but not overbearing and the ambience with a view of the Gateway Arch was beautiful. It was a wonder meal with a South American theme that made it a very special evening.

For this to be a high end hotel/restaurant the seats and chairs at the Cinderhouse were horribly stained. Makes the whole ambiance a downgrade. You shouldn’t charge $40 for a brunch for muffins and cheese.
